Story 4: I'm a homeschool individual, a junior in high school, and I have been homeschooled through everything, along with my other two siblings. One of the issues I ran across while listening was people saying that the homeschooled child needed socialization with kids her own age. While socialization is very important, there are ways to do it while remaining home homeschooled. Through co-op groups, the one I am involved in has both a class day and a physical exercise day. I can also understand not wanting to send your child to public high school, the schools in my area have a lot of bullying, kids throwing textbooks at teacher, yanking other students to the ground by their hair, etc. One of the schools was on the brink of being taken over by the state, due to the number of suicides, it wasn't just the students who were the problem, it was the facility ignoring students who were pointing out the bully. Long story short home schooling is a great option, and doesn't make sheltered weirdos if the parents are proactive.

The sister has the same opportunity to excel in the areas where her gifts and talents lie. She can apply herself to her music and work towards scholarships, grants, etc. Her parents should be doing everything they can to guide and assist her in that endeavor. Honestly, I think the mother should look into other income earning options to help afford the private Christian school. They can also try Go Fund Me type fundraisers and try different church organizations. It's unclear if the daughter sings and or plays instruments, or maybe she writes music. Whatever she does, she needs to work hard toward making herself achieve a level of proficiency that will also allow her to earn her, her own accolades and success. You never penalize your hard working driven child and hold them back because of the jealousy of a sibling. Even if I agreed that the parents needed to ignore their son's hard work and success. I would still point out that the spoiled and entitled daughter has a lot to learn. She is being horrible to her brother because of her envy. If the parents are doing something wrong, her anger and resentment should be directed at them, not her brother. I would never reward such behavior. However, I would do everything in my power to help her work towards and achieve her dreams, including figuring out the money for school tuition. If I failed at that, I would allow her to go to public school with certain conditions such as good grades, school activities involvement, and acceptable behavior.

There are safeguards that schools can take to ensure she is properly integrated into the school but because the mother is so fearful her daughter will be attacked she refuses to let her live a normal life. I could get stabbed walking down the street, does that mean I don't go out? If she's musically talented she could theoretically earn a scholarship for that for a private school if she wanted to work for it? (Talking strictly cost wise not the other bs stuff lol)
@songohan33213 жыл бұрын
From what I understand is that the daughter just wants to go to any in-person learning school period and not be home-schooled anymore. The private school was a suggestion because it was close-by and I think OP just doesn't want to send her to public school. I went to an inner-city all-black high school myself during the 90s. It definitely was some events that happened but you had more freedom to discipline back then. It also help that the teachers, both white and black, were older and used to inner-city youth. It also helped that when I started school there, a bunch of the 9th grade "kids" were there for six years and the really bad ones dropped out. I can see OP'S point. Maybe look for a magnet school or a good public school known for its arts, music, and/or theater programs. Most school districts have them and they tend to most have a good environment.

If he's so upset that his wife was caught on camera for a short period of time, he can go sit on a cactus since he's such a prick. Also, like everyone else is saying- for someone who's *supposedly* 100% innocent, he's definitely acting suspicious and like he was going to try to burglarize OP's home. I get that people have different reactions to being caught on camera, but the neighbor is acting like he had a rock solid plan to commit theft and try to get away with it to some capacity, but that OP installing security cameras screwed his plan over and is now trying to us BS excuses to try and push any suspicion (of a potential robbery plan) off of him.

Rant warning! Ok so my whole family has gone through very similar things with respect to the last story. IMO above anything I'll say later: family helps family. In my family, if we have someone who was on the receiving end of the blunt side of life then we do what we can to help them out. My mother became the full-time caretaker of my grandma when her health turned, my cousin ended up footing the medical bill for his father when he was diagnosed with cancer, and at some point half of my family has lived with another part of the family for any given extended period of time. This also goes for when we find out that a family member is gifted somehow. The same cousin I mentioned earlier excelled in the STEM field and my family housed him for some time while he was attending a very prestigious private STEM high school since the school was 30-45 minutes closer to us than his family. Almost directly because of that choice, he was able to get into other STEM programs and eventually graduated from MIT. He ended up doing very well because of that and was able to pay his father's medical bills later in life. My own mother worked 2-3 full-time jobs and another 2-3 part-time jobs just so we could afford to have my sister and I be able to participate in the sports we loved and eventually get through college. So, I applaud OP for taking care of her mother and still wanting to give her kids to the best education she was able to give at the time. Obviously, we don't know the exact condition her mother was in. She might only need some assistance for certain tasks around the house or she might need help doing everything and OP has to give her full attention to the mother. We just don't know. That being said, we also don't know a bunch of other specifics. Did they grow up knowing that they would most likely be home schooled? When did they know about the STEM program opportunity and when was the son accepted? Did they discuss with their kids about how that would effect them if they went down that path? Did OP and/or her husband have to take on more jobs to pay for the STEM program? Did the son have to get a job to help pay for the program? There are probably more questions that we could ask that I didn't think of or forgot to add, but this just goes to show that this story shouldn't be answered by whether or not OP is TA. This sounds more like a mother who is trying to do her best for her family who is asking for help. I do not think OP and her husband should pull their son from the program. He's worked hard to get there and he deserves to finish it. It's not fair to him after settling in there as well as it being a reward for his academic achievements to take that away and give part of it to someone else. That is a fast way to create resentment between him and OP/her husband as well as between him and his sister. Also, I think that they should try to find a way to get the daughter into a private school they agree with if they are vehement about not sending their kids to the public high school as it leads to a similar resentment. My suggestion, albeit it's far from perfect, is to have both the son and the daughter pick up a job in order to help with the financial burden on top of OP and her husband also trying to get another job each if they can. If the kids already have jobs then let them know the new ground rules that have to be put in place. Everyone chips in so they can go to their respective school. From my own experience living in a low income to low-middle class income household is that there is always someone hiring and there is always another way to make some extra money. My family has a saying "If you truly want something, then make a way for it to happen." You don't get anywhere by just standing around watching what's going down, find a way to make it happen. Sorry for the rant! I felt like OP wasn't being treated all too fairly and wanted to give another perspective of this scenario. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and anyone is free to disagree with me. I also wanted to make a more constructive piece of criticism because I believe OP just wants to do her best by her kids and I don't think that negativity is what's needed for this story to find the best solution. Thank you for reading and reply if you want to help find a better path for this family. I hope everyone has an amazing day!!

Ooo we got some spicy ones today! I find it so funny when parents think sending their kids to a private school will be better. My best friend went to a private middle school, and not to say this is all private schools, but they have wayyyyy more drugs than an average high school. In public school the worst thing you'll encounter is alcohol or weed, private school kids have more money to get wacker shit. They had middle schoolers taking Adderall and smoking weed. Its never "better" or "safer." The only real improvement is private schools usually have better resources. But socially, they're much scarier
