Wow!! My husband is a heavy equipment operator. Grading is his bread and butter. (Say a thanks every time your plane lands at LAX. His company has built all the runways😉) I know Using your equipment to cause any destruction is beyond frowned upon. The fact that he destroyed his cutting edges on the blade, the actual name of the machine, is totally what he gets for being the AH. Edges aren’t cheap. I hope this was in the US so he can be removed from the operator’s union. I’m still listening..... I literally just spoke to hubby while writing this. He was laughing his ass off!! He said that, depending on speed, the blade operator could have suffered some kind of injury. Breaking edges like that takes soooo much force. I’ve helped carry edges to a machine once and it’s crazy heavy. Off to finish the story. 😊

Look. I work overnight shifts. I have at a few different jobs that have culminated in me working overnights for over 20 years. People are weird about this-expecting you to answer calls at “normal” hours, acting like it’s weird you’re sleeping during the day, acting like it’s weird you’re drinking at 9 am (I haven’t been to bed yet bro). I’ve had grocery clerks act weird when I’m buying alcohol at 8am. There is a lot of unacceptable attitudes toward people that work overnight shifts and no level of explaining to people seems to make them understand. (Seriously, I’ve tried so many times asking people politely that if I work from 10pm to 8am, when do they think I sleep? That I just don’t sleep at all because it’s weird to sleep during the day. They just look at me blankly. Am I not allowed to drink in the morning? I’m 43 years old I’ll drink whenever tf I want, lol. And then people who think I miraculously keep a different schedule the one or two days I’m off per week, like I get off at 8am and I don’t work that night so I suddenly just stay awake all day and what?! I don’t know, people are so dumb about night workers but that’s not my point.) But something I would never do is expect people to not make noise during the day just because I’m sleeping lol. That’s ridiculous! On that same token, I would never make a bunch of noise throughout the night and wee hours of the morning on my nights off. I live in an apartment complex, I’m not just gonna vacuum my floors and blast music or whatever at 3-4am and be like, what I work nights 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ to suggest that people can’t keep being humans during the day because you work nights is just absurd.

Story 2 is why you can't trust any agency in an extremely rural area like this. People in appointed positions will _absolutely_ abuse their power against you, and more often than not they're all buddy-buddy with the sheriff, so no one will come to your aid no matter what misery befalls you, even if said appointees cross the line into grievous harm against you or your property. And yet these people have the gall to look down on city folk? Seriously? Oh yeah, sure is rough holding cops and mail workers accountable for their actions, having a reliable electrical grid, and neighbors who won't deliberately let their pitbull loose in your yard to kill all your ducks just cuz you asked him to please not hunt with dogs on your property, especially at 3 in the morning.

I know I'm late with my story but its valid none the less after hearing about OP's mail box & the barrels being knocked down. When a friend of mine was a kid (about 10yo) one of her neighbours was a boy of about the same age. When all the kids were outside playing & riding their bikes,(this was in the 80s & outside a rural town)this boy would show-off his riding "skills" by riding over this plastic guide post (posts on side of road with red or white reflectors, depending on what direction you were travelling.) Obviously city council got sick of constantly replacing the post so they replaced the plastic post with a metal one that was much stronger. Cue show-off bike rider who rode up to knock the post down & "🔊BONG"! That sound echoed around most of the houses as the boys bike went from "ridden hard" to sudden complete "⛔STOP!" The momentum threw the boy about 2metres in the air before his skidded to a stop on his hands & knees in the gravel beside the road. In front of about 5 other kids. We all saw he was bleeding quite a lot as he jumped up, grabbed his bike & limped home as fast as he could. She said he didn't seem to show off so much after that. At least not by riding over guide posts!😂😂😂

I'm not a ginger (as you can see) but I was a Brit in the US for 25 years and, like OP, not built for intimidation so you just have to be ready to deliver. Did a lot of extreme sports, some escrima so speed and power. Had a land-mate about a foot taller who just kept throwing his (substantial) weight around so I told him that if that was what he wanted, we could set up a time and place and get physical (one of our clients owned a boxing gym and would happily let us use the ring). That was a breach of the unwritten social protocol over there (you don't call me on my bs and I won't call you on yours) and he accused me of threatening him. I pointed out that I offered so to either take me up on that offer or behave accordingly. A while later he was telling a mutual friend that he wanted to kick my skinny, English a** and they replied, "He offered, didn't he?"

as to marks questions, no trying to overpower the pirate station even at that close range would have been a big no no, would have looked bad for OP. the way OP handled it was the right way to do it, also intentionally trying to damage the equipment could have been fatal for OP in case anyone is wondering. its better to let the authorities handle that but looking at the make and model of the antenna can give you a good idea what frequencies it works well on, in amateur radio we do that all the time, even will sometimes reuse satellite antennas for radio use. OP did it the right way period.

As many commenters have pointed out, Podunk basically means very small town. But nobody else has said why. I can say, no it's not a cowboy word, because there aren't a whole lot of cowboys here in Michigan. So why is Podunk used to describe small towns? Try this map search www.google.com/maps/search/podunk . . Even better, start here on the map www.google.com/maps/@13.5534369,55.8004905,2.96z then search for Podunk. . That's right, there are two towns (villages? communities? settlements?) here in Michigan called Podunk. How can there be two in the same state? Another term that might not be familiar in the UK - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unincorporated_area . . How do you tell if a place is a "Podunk"? On Google Maps, there's a hierarchy. Larger municipalities show the name and are white, compared to the general green shown for most land. Smaller places show the name, but have no color distinction on the map. Then there's Podunk places. Even if you search the name, Google in show you the place, but doesn't even have the name showing on the map www.google.com/maps/place/Podunk,+Sage+Township,+MI+48624/ . If you switch to satellite view, there's still NOTHING THERE! That's a Podunk.
