They'll have a treat of a time with that, considering how long they have worked the current job... in a completely different state. And knowing about this issue, they can bring it up at interviews. Meh most employers are not that interested in your past history honestly unless it's fields in which the market is super competitive ,and all they have to do to prove the employer was incompetent is show their work history of being in another state at another job entirely. A few stops down, some woman with a stroller gets on, and starts demanding i give up my seat for her and stand. Thats about as far as she got... before my white knight, the bus driver stands up and says no. Stores on this side of the pond do tend to restrict sales of popular items if they become scarce. During the "fake baby formula in China" years, people were buying out baby formula in the supermarkets here and sending it to their families overseas, so the supermarkets and chemists all put restrictions on how much you can buy in one go. And of course there's the insane people buying insane amounts of you-know-what because of you-know-what.

This happened to me at a craft store. I love to bake and decorate cakes. I was shopping and had my basket 1/2 filled with cake decorating supplies when I got accosted by a mother/daughter duo who started rifling through my cart thinking I worked there. I told them to back off and they said I was rude. I told them they hadn't seen anything yet and to step off. They did but they threatened to get me fired and I told them okay but I don't work here. They kept asking me stuff and wouldn't leave me alone and insisted that I did work there and I finally had to use my cell phone to call the store to get the store manager to come to where I was to help these weirdos or they were gonna have to call police if I had to deal with them any further. The response was "Okay " and walkie chatter and running noises. The manager and the assistant manager show up, greet us and tell the bitches that I don't work there, that I just shop there alot. The manager helps them and the assistant manager reaches a few things down for me, chats with me, quietly laughs, thanks me for getting them out of a conference call and then I was on my way.

Story 1's OP has a fantastic way with words 🤣 Edit: As does BabsarellaWT! Edit 2: Story 5: To be fair, most phones lack a dedicated "transfer" button, but still have the function. It's usually pound-number-number, wait for dial tone, put in number to transfer the call to. Obviously OP wouldn't have had any way to know that nor did they have any reason to help this obviously not-listening woman, but the function was most likely available after all.

Mark While I didn't have to go around purchasing multiples of products, Market Research is both fun and miserable. We were doing traffic pattern research by asking customers of a national burger chain where they were coming from home or business and the general area of where home or business was. Doing this rain or shine and having the manager of this location being restrictive. Didn't understand why till my boss the owner explaining. The manager/owner (franchisee) knows that if Corporate decides to put in another store it's going to cut down traffic to theirs, reducing their profit. i.e. an independent store vs a corporate store. Corporate doesn't care as long as the bottom line grows. So there's competition between stores of the same company.

I've got a they dont work here story. I work in retail and this happened over the holidays one year. This older man was going through the Electronics section of the store, just walking by pushing his cart. He is wearing a navy blue shirt with some kind of fleece looking vest of the same color and black tan pants. Looks almost like the stores uniform with out the big yellow logo on the back. This woman comes up and starts asking where whatever she was looking for was and the poor guy just looked frazzled. I stepped in and said he doesn't work here and the woman had this durr look on her face like what I just said did not compute. Luckily older guy managed to get out of the situation while I diverted attention. Blows my mind when people just look for someone in the color scheme of the employee uniform and nothing else.

On your personal shopping job woes... Once you know the limits, just take a 30 minute break to give that manager time to be too busy to spot you, pick up the next max allowed, have another cashier check you out. This won't help with liquor stores, that may not have more than two registers open, but WM? Yeah, just change up who you go to each time. Find out how many in the area you're allowed to shop at to fill your need. Maybe try, "I have a HUGE party, and I need XYZ quantity of Product. Can you help me?" Some cashiers will remember you no matter what you do. Be low key, be soft-spoken, be somewhat preoccupied but paying enough attention to the cashier to allow your order to be completed speedily. Most big box store cashiers won't give a flip that you're back again to buy more liquor, as long as you aren't drunk, and don't appear to be handing it off to minors, for which =cashiers= can be punished for in the USA. If you add other/different things to each purchase, that helps too. Seriously, as long as you don't give the cashier a reason to be suspicious... they are paid to sell things.

U could have said u had extra money & was buying staples for a domestic violence or homeless shelter. I've done that when I had expendable cash. IDK what excuse u could use for the Bailey's maybe a halfway house to test occupants resistance to temptation?

A side note on your own story..you may want to consider talking to the store manager on those trips, just telling them you're planning to make a mass-purchase (but not needing to tell them *why*)..putting a excessive (for normal use) amount of product in your cart like that is considered a red flag for loss-prevention, and will at least likely get you *watched* in a good store. Granted, it may just mean you giving the LP person entertainment as you deal with Karens.. :-)

Wow. Mark is trying to cover up the fact that he once wanted to buy 500 bottles of Bailey's for himself. Suuuuuure it was for "market research".
