The current temple is NOT filled to capacity, far from it. The number of members on record rolls are not reflective of participating members. Conservatively cut by a third. Of the 2/3rds remaining half of that are meeting the high behavioral standards REQUIRED to be allowed entrance and use of a temple. The numbers do not reflect a need.

If the church just played by the same rules as everyone else, the residents wouldn't have a problem. But, when they have to pay city council people campaign contributions of $70,000 to get a bill through to change the zoning to fit their needs, then we have a problem.

There will never be 1000 cars a day. Twice a year for Stake Conference maybe 400 cars. Will there also be a new stake center? Since when is it polite to tell others where they can worship? BTW, please drive over to the Las Vegas Temple and ask several (not LDS residents) home-owners exactly how is life near the existing temple. Just a very minor side note: you may never find a more beautiful green space than an LDS temple. Breathtaking in its' landscaping!

@ED-gl5jp stake conferences that take place twice a year. But realistically this isn't the first temple in the Las Vegas area if you want to argue that traffic will be an issue you'd have to prove the current Las Vegas temple

No one is opposed to a religious building being built. I'm not. But it must to be built respecting the local restrictions, respecting the elders who set rules so that everyone can share the unobstructed view of Lone Mountain. This is the fault of the LDS leadership buying a property with restrictions then erroneously thinking they should be given an exception because they are an organized religion. That is wrong and abuse of religioious exceptions. The leadership was wrong, they wronged others. They need to apologize, make amends for distressing the property owners in the areas who have respected the local codes and their neighbours by following the rules, then the LDS church needs to honor and honor and respect the laws of that area. Just built the temple to a maximum of 35'-0" and not illuminate it at night. It is that simple. It can be built with those restrictions, be beautiful and inspiring for all LDS members.

If they want a building that size, just purchase property in an area that allows structures that size adn allows illumunation all night. They have the money. They need to respect the citizens who live there and respect the ordinances that were enacted decades ago. The building may be special to the congregants, we all can respect that, but to others it's an eyesore. Those opposing this better ask if any of the voting council members are practicing mormons, or hold positions in government that influence decisions.

The temple is a place of peace. No need to be scared. Even walking the grounds brings a peaceful feeling.
