Props to Neil Degrasse Tyson for being a principled person in this divisive political culture. It’s rare in today’s world to chose principle over party or person. He didn’t go with ‘the crowd’ to bash Trump like Colbert wanted him to. Rather, he stuck to scientific fact and his principles. Allow this to be a lesson to both sides: you don’t always have to agree with your side if you’re a liberal or conservative. Be open minded and chose each issue and topic based off merit and truth. Neil deGrasse speaks truth. Will you?

Yes however if you would bother to read the comments here on this video you can see how much wind the arrogant and selfish can get to use and abuse what he said. It does not matter if I'm reasonable when we are in a fight when you get to play/nudge it according to your argument. Apparently Trump came with the idea of space force all on his own now...(if you read the comments)

Except you shouldnt forget something here. A: Tyson isnt unbiased here. When the military steps into a scientific field there are always massive Research Grants waiting for the scientists there. And especialy seeing how everything gets their budget cut except the military who gets more and more money almost every year this Research look pretty seductive. B: Tyson is not a universal genius but a astrophysicist. This mean that he is very adept in his field (witch to put it simply is space) but that doesnt mean he is suddenly an expert for other fields this space force has a effect on like political, economical, social etc. And this is a thing many people tend to forget. People like Tyson or Steven Hawking when he lived were only experts in their fields. Outside of that they are probaly not that much more smarter than the average person and especialy not as much as people who are in turn experts in this field. You wont ask a sociologist to explain how the string theory work but we trust a physicist in return to know what social and global impacts a military space programm has. Because militarizing space (witch actually was tried before under Reagan) has many social and political impacts ranging from it perhaps not being the best use for military money in a time were more and more countries (like china, russia and also north korea) invest alot in cyber-warfare and the impact of putting military into space on global stability because as soon your in Space, borders basiacly become meaningless. It could basiacly lead to a arms race that makes the cold war look like a civil discussion. So based on its own merits a space force may sound like a good idea especialy because it would grant the nessecary programms fro space exploration much needed funds it is in a time of social struggel and global destablization probaly not the best use of tax payers money. Because while it may sound facinating to go into space we should probaly get our shit together down here first before doing that. Because without that it could lead to a even more fractured human species at best and at worst well it does probaly the exact opposite of "securing humanitys future". Technological progress is meaningless (and sometimes very dangerous) without social one.

@@MrRamazanLale2 It is not Trump's job to fix Flint and Alabama, that is the State's job. Americans don't fight for Israel, a short browse in the history of the region would show the fact that Israel can pretty much do that on its own. 55% of US budget is not spent on the US military. That is a talking point fabricated by only looking at descretionary funding and not mandatory funds, which is where majority of US taxes actually go to. In actuality, US military funding only constitutes about 16-17%. US military budget is about $600 billion, Social security and Medicare total budget runs at more $1 trillion each, with total US budget at about $3.8 trillion. On your last point, I agree. The US should stop minding other people's business, including sending foreign aid. The US should allow internal turmoils, genocide, and terrorism to run rampant all over the world. It is a domestic problem, so those countries should settle it by themselves. Also, good luck trying to implement international treaties if nobody is going to enforce it.

Asa Nichols, to be fair, Neil is as you said a scientist, so while he or others like him should definitely have input, the militarisation of space is going to require military knowledge. Personally I think it's a dumb idea, we should have a multinational space peacekeeping force instead of promoting further space militarisation and risking Kessler syndrome trapping us on the planet for maybe thousands of years. But that's me examining the idea on its own merits. And, while you _say_ Colbert isn't a scientist, you seem to forget that he _is_ Professor Impossible.

The brigadier general who campaigned for an air force was busted down to a lowly colonel & reassigned elsewhere, because he was asked to bomb a ship from 500. ft & he failed, next trials same orders, however he decided it could only be achieved at lower altitudes as they had no bomb sighting equipment so he ordered his men to bomb at 300ft & they sunk the ship. Because he dropped at 300 not 500 he was demoted for disobeying an order.

The ones who don't believe in space travel rarely reply to a simple challenge I always give them... seeing the ISS with their own eyes. You can do it with a cheap pair of binoculars or a cheap telescope (like super cheap, like the US$20-30 range)... it's blurry, but it's a notably _rectangular_ shiny thing pretty stationary up in the sky, so it's obviously neither a planet nor a star. I guess it _could_ be a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier? I'd also recommend it to any of you sane people, because looking at the ISS with your own eyeballs (even if enhanced by optics) is _really really_ cool! Or maybe I'm just a massive nerd 😁

Well, the Soviets successfully fired their R-23M Kartech 23mm cannon in space. Soviet cosmonauts carried pistols or had access to them. So weapons HAVE been to space in greater numbers than most people would realize. Creation of the Space Force shifts the USAF space command into its own branch of the military with funding independent of Air Force funding. This is quite similar to how the US Marine Corps was created out of the Navy as well as the US Air Force out of the Army Air Corps. Now, the USSF Can fully make its own decisions in regards to spending budget rather than risk some Air Force general saying “Nope, you can’t spend that money” because the general doesn’t understand why that expenditure is necessary.

If you develop directional EMP, (Electro-Magnetic Pulse), cannons, and could develop shielding so that the EMP cannon doesn't destroy itself or the equipment that it was mounted to, then you could mount the EMP cannons on satellites, and electrically kill other satellites without physically destroying them. The dead satellites would still be a problem, as they would have no navigation correction anymore, and it would just be a dead lump of metal in orbit, but it would remain a single dead lump, large and more easily traceable, not burst into thousands of untraceable bits, each with it's own trajectory.
@Kreln1221
@Kreln1221 6 жыл бұрын
I covered that angle by stating that it would still be a problem, but thousands of small untraceable bits of debris, each traveling on their own trajectory is much more of a dangerous hazard than a single traceable and plotable relatively large fast dead lump.

KamekoBruns, it sounds like you've never heard of Reagan's "Strategic Defense Initiative", which was widely, albeit informally, known as the "Star Wars" programme. Calling Trump's Space Force "Star Wars 2.0" isn't inaccurate.

When our sciences and arts flourished, it was because of donations, some from government, some from the private sector. Since this government wants to harm science and art, we might need to gather donations through something like GoFundMe, with sections for each kind of science or art. Within those sections, people needing grants can put them up on the page, describing the research they want, and why it matters, plus fuller info available at a link. People can then donate to their favorites. After all, we have always funded science and the arts. We just did it with our tax dollars. Now those are drying up as much as the regime can make possible, so we can thumb our noses at them and do the funding ourselves. Let arts and sciences flourish IN SPITE OF the fascists. And we'll keep our patents and copyrights, too. We won't need to offer much help to health sciences, because the fanatics will want the best high-tech medical care they can get. In THAT sense, they love science. The other science they love is the kind that helps with wars. Some people will need to start this, because I can't. Physically, I'm very fragile and in a wheelchair, plus I'm 73, and don't think I'll be around much longer. Before that happens, I'd love to see this new renaissance develop and spit in the faces of the evangelicals. They can't tell us what to do, and it'll drive them wild. Because what they want most is to control what other people do. Give them the raspberry.

KamekoBruns Fascism is right-wing. Socialism/Communism is left wing. They both want to control, and they both do control, depending on where you're looking. Zionists control Trump. He owes them money after they bailed him out from his failed business ventures of the 80s and 90s. Follow the money. Power transcends the level of US President.

KamekoBruns, stop using old Soviet propaganda techniques, your whataboutery is _such_ a communist douchebag move. It's almost as dumb as political partisanship in any direction. That being said, the left only seem about 70% as detached from reality as the right currently.

KamekoBruns Classic case of Logical Fallacy (no quotes needed because it's an actual thing that exists). Because one group does it, that makes it okay for another to do it? You know what your mother would say, right??

One must never wish war, but one must always be ready for it. That's why a space force is a wise idea.
