Neil's mom was so quick to tell the news reporters how Rachel was depressed and how Neil loved Rachel and their daughter. I’d guess he’s gotten away with everything, without consequences, all his life. His parents clearly showed this with their pitiful remarks, regardless of the loss of their granddaughter. A parent can love and support their child without ignoring the fact of their horrific deed. EDIT: Since posting this comment, I’ve seen expanded footage. It’s hard for parents to know whether to support their child in these circumstances and a lot of very good parents will do so even when they don’t believe it themselves. Even the most deranged people need the support of someone, maybe even more so. Who better than ones parents to fill that role?

What does seem strange to me is that his cover was SO damn bad. That aspect reminds me more of a spur of the moment kind of crime, but then you look at what happened and it's hard to imagine that it could have been unplanned. Considering his parents reaction though, he's probably had a lifetime of learning he can get away with anything if he just said he didn't do it.

Even if he’d hated Rachel, how on Earth can anybody murder a 9 month old baby? For somebody who’s supposedly so smart, he sure was stupid about everything to do with this whole situation. He could’ve at least pretended to be a little bit sad. The way he kept repeating, “Yeah…” on that first phone call from the police was really bizarre. Even if he hadn’t ran or done any of the other stupid stuff, that itself was a humongous red flag.

I remember when my sisters were both about 6 and 7, they stole some candy from K-Mart. My mom found out (she had a nose on her like a bloodhound) and turned the car around and we went back to the store. Marched us all back inside and made my sisters apologize to the cashier and the store manager, then paid for the candy. (We were poor - candy was NEVER purchased so this really screwed us.) My poor mom was so upset, wondering what she'd done wrong that two of her kids would steal candy. She could barely speak, and looked simultaneously like she was going to strangle them both and burst into tears. To think that not one, but both of Neil's parents cannot see ANY of what he's done (escorts, no job, yet spending money like there is no tomorrow, scamming people, lying to his family, and murdering his own child and wife) is astonishing.

Another British perspective ; his parents are archetypal British middle class and as such are WAY more concerned with appearance than reality, - that old "but what will the neighbours think?" overrules all. They probably knew full well he was guilty as sin but there's those future dinner parties etc to get through. By the way, I think "middle class" means different things to British and Americans.

Imagine being asked to make this crazy long distance phone call to a man who (you think) has to be told his wife and baby daughter have been murdered in their own home. You don't know how he's going to take it, you're a little choked up yourself because of how gruesome the crime is, you're trying to have empathy and find the words to say and when you do, all you hear in response is: "Yeah."

Mike has covered one or more where the children murder the siblings and parents also. So effed up! But this little freak makes me wanna 🤢, that dupers delight laughter/smile in court… Mike truly is the best though.

She infuriated me. That whole family is horridly disgusting! I'm a mother of two beautiful daughters, and I'll always love them no matter what. @@lynnhathorn I couldn't agree more. I am a mother of 2 sons who are my absolute world and I love and adore them beyond words can express. But if they did something as disgusting as murdered there own child and spouse, and planned it out or killed/hurt any child or vulnerable person for that matter, I would have no choice but to cut ties and love the person they once were but not who they had become. I have thought about this before and the only murder type of crime I think I could forgive and still have a relationship with them would be a crime of passion or like a bar fight that went to far. I would never condone that but I could at least see they hadn't planned to kill anyone but this type of thing I'd have no issue with publicly cutting ties with them.
