The downfall of nerd culture was when it was made corporate mainstream. As a friend of mine once said 'I took a lot of flak and abuse for being a nerd back in the day, but kept doing what I liked despite that. @ephraimwinslow5 ай бұрын
Being a nerd or geek is ultimately a very cerebral thing to be. It's all about attention to detail, and hypothetical questions, and arguments over technicalities and established lore. And the people who seized the steering wheel for 'nerd' culture at present... care about none of the above. So all the actual nerds and geeks (read: the ones who actually care about this stuff and give it real staying power) are gone. We're all just shifting to old, obscure, indie and/or foreign media. Because... well, that's where we find what we're actually looking for. Meaning: a conversation worth having about an interesting subject.

The latter two groups is overt pandering, along with the demonization of whites and the dehumanization of all three groups. Second, which once more tells me you're very disingenuous by engaging in this sort of obfuscation, acting roles requires you to know the role you are playing. Both you and them get this wrong, and then make excuses and scapegoat the rest of us who got this right and call it out. Third, since it seems you like making excuses for Disney, regardless of what anyone says, Disney's clear agenda is to label people these epithets in advance. There was even a memo going around about it over a year ago. They made it easy for themselves because they have no respect for the audience and costumer in advance. The fans were to be called these things beforehand, which is why they destroyed these brands in the first place; Star Wars especially is most obvious how much they hated the majority male legacy fans built it up. In fact, all of Hollywood and our damn government are running this exact same strategy in balkanizing fashion. The branding is the point so it grants them fake morality, fake virtue, and self permission to do what they want. Enough of this lazy reasoning already. In 2003 I was 15 playing Kotor and the farmers in one mission are annoyed that the jedi are intervening in their argument and that stuck with me because I realised not everyone saw the Jedi as heroes. This concept of Jedi not being infallible is not new.
@Jadty5 ай бұрын
To make a nuanced depiction of Jedi like that, requires people with passion and talent, which Disney has very few. I can imagine a lot of crew members that have legitimate passion for real Star Wars and joined Disney to work in what they love, have to stay silent while Disney defiles the franchise in real time.
@Alpha_bit_co_isa_terror_org5 ай бұрын
I'd argue it's ingrained in even the OT... Obi-Wan and Yoda both deceive Luke in order to use him against his own father. They deceive him again by hiding the fact that Leia is his twin sister and basically their backup option, they don't bother to mention their religious order had basically become a subservient enforcement arm of a highly corrupt government or that Kenobi had the chance to end Vader himself forever and just walked away etc. The Jedi not being infallible is literally in the background of every SW film from the beginning, it just takes knowing wtf you're talking about and a shred of critical thinking skill to recognize it's there. But that's obviously far too nuanced for people like KK or Lesley Blockheadland or the modern consoomer audience.
@russianoverkill37155 ай бұрын
KOTORs were written by Chris Avellone, he doesn't really like that good vs evil setting, so his Jedi were kind of sinister, while the rest of Star Wars always depicted Jedi as obviously good.

One of the issues in all of this is, that bad guys think they're good, and Lord Sidious thinks he's bringing peace to the galaxy, because there's so much corruption and confusion and chaos going on, and that now he's going to be able to straighten everything out, which may be true, but the price the galaxy's going to have to pay for it is way too much. -- George Lucas, RotS commentary

What anakin did was undeniably evil but in a situation of war... you'd be hard pressed to say if you encounter child soldiers you could have the choice of detainment/disarming.
