This reminds me of a funny AFM story: some guy was using what he thought was a rock next to the track as a braking marker at T-hill, but by the end of the day he kept running off the track because the "rock" was actually a turtle! lol It was just slowly inching closer to the corner as the day went on.
@rickhewett95372 жыл бұрын
There's a story like that at JGP too
@AaronCohn842 жыл бұрын
Hahaha... brake marker turtle! It'll push your brake markers deeper and get you better lap times... until it doesn't 😛

I'm so glad to see you come out laughing and were ok. I did the exact same thing at the Grange going counter clockwise at the end of the main straight and hit the tire wall. I wasn't so lucky and ended up with a lateral malleolus fracture and my bike had a smashed up radiator. So that was the end of the day. It was kinda a scary to watch the video, because I felt like I am going through it again :)

This is so freaking important, glad you talk about it. I KNOW I shouldn’t but I also use cones at my local kart track which can and are moved around from time to time. What’s challenging for me is finding reliable reference points that are easy to see on our flat Texas tracks! Good stuff Josh, keep ‘em comin!
@joshherrin2 жыл бұрын
How can we make a light that pops up on your dash at each track for your brake marker? 🤔
@vtranmoto2 жыл бұрын
@@joshherrin I’m legit squealing/fanboying right now man. 😅😅😅😅 WHATS UP. What if you carry a can of pink spray paint and sneak on track pre-session and paint pink Xs everywhere 😎 In all seriousness, don’t the GP bikes have mapping that adjusts based on track position? Your idea could lean on that capability!
@joshherrin2 жыл бұрын
@@vtranmoto paint works, but every rider and every bike has a different marker. I usually try to find a reference point and I really listen to the sound of the bike to remember my braking spot. The reference point works best and the sound only really works when you are being super consistent lap to lap.
@vtranmoto2 жыл бұрын
@@joshherrin ahh thank you for the sound tip! Will try and pay more attention to that. Have you thought about doing a video on how to approach different types of corners? Like late apex/decreasing radius or other technique specific videos? I have a tiny KZbin channel just vlogging my experience essentially. Love that pros like yourself and Sylvain Guintoli are putting out actual educational content to help riders improve. The motorcycling community needs more of that!!!

Last week I raced for the first time with CRA at Buttonwillow. On Friday practice and mock race, they had the cones out on the track which I’ve been using as markers. On Saturday, I went out on the track and realized they took all the cones away. It messed me up really bad. Good advice, I will pay attention to the cracks and other permanent markers.

oof - Done this myself, the other one I've done is NAIL it down a straight to get passed someone, totally ignoring my brake marker and just focusing on getting past someone, realise I've overcooked the ever-living shit out of the corner then just thrown the supermoto into the corner WAAAY too hot!. The upshot of this is that I've only been riding my motard on the track for about 5 months, and what I thought was way too hot for my Supercorsa SC-0's was actually nowhere near the limit and I learned two things. One - I was slow and my tyres were capable of way more than I was trusting them. and Two, you have to drop a supermoto basically on its side before the foot pegs touch down on the bitumen.... That was the one experience where what I thought was a major screw up ended up unlocking a lot of potential... I dropped my lap times by nearly 5 sec that weekend :)
