You have to be a carpenter trained to understand why there is a difference in the board depths. In the same way when you try to be a doctor but you are not trained in why and how to do the surgery. You are buying finished lumber and not rough lumber. Rough lumber is planed down to remove the roughness of the lumber at the sawmill. It is standard in the industry. You would have to pose that question to the sawmills who produce the lumber. They will tell you that when you ask them. You can buy rough lumber at the depth you want. Most of the time you would have to buy it at the sawmill. Hardware stores carry some rough lumber. Ones like siding, maybe fencing, or for proper trailers like the one you purchased. If you do not tell this to the hardwood (store) dealer or the personnel at the store is not aware of it. This is what occurs. Also, the sawmills have a standard to meet when cutting boards. The tree is not supposed to have more than ( I am guessing this right now it may be less or a little more. Some provinces or states may have different regulations) 15% saturation of water in the tree when they cut the log. If there is more than that the tree goes back to its original shape. It's why you have warped lumber. Remember when the logs are brought to the mill. Depending on whether they store it under a roof or where they kiln dry it, or left outside accumulating more water like a sponge. You will end up with warped lumber when it dries out. Always ask the professionals they are trained.

Paint the deck board with used motor oil. It's free, and will make your decking last far longer.

@@LauraSmith-rs5fj I’m not sure about that one since it’s treated lumber. If I was going to keep it long term I’d probably put oak boards in it and stain them.

@@danbob1650 Does it harden the wood?
@danbob16503 ай бұрын
@@MountainsideER No. but treated it. If you got ground contact treated lumber you're better off. If og treated maybe you should. But if you equipment leaks your good to go when you swipe it off over time. You can dilute with some like linseed oil/ diesel or just use linseed oil. Again this is an old cheap farmer hack. Use what you have . For wood harden go the home Depot find Richard he'll know where it is. I told that old man all about what wood harden is about. If you what it color do it before hand. For your trailer it wood be costly buying pints or find it in bulk ?
