Agreed. That said, it seems odd to give so much precious private space to a bath-tub, which are v unusual in Lisbon homes (I live there) and to have a toilet - which is presumably used for public events too - only separated by a sheer curtain.

It is rare that someone takes the time and effort to revitalize a space back to its former beauty without imposing too much of their own will over it and making it something it is not. This space is optimized well for its intended use as a location for an artist to work/showcase their stuff and live for extended periods. Many artists have a process where they get into grooves and work continuously night and day to get things done...and this is a space to make that happen. nice work!

As both an artist and minimalist, I could definitely live in this space. Having a space to exhibition as well, would be just ideal for me too. The archway is beautiful, and rightfully made a feature.

Looks like a really nice working space for occasional sleepovers. Given the limited storage space, tiny closet and few kitchen appliances as well as the makeshift sofa bed, I guess living in this place daily would be quite inconvenient.

I am thrilled to see the original stone arch brought back to life and the ceiling beam in sympatico with the building. The drawback for me is the kitchen. Who cares about a dishwasher when there isn’t an oven? Lack of storage is also a negative aspect. The fridge is very small too. It seems the bathtub had more priority than the kitchen. The floorplan does not give the impression that someone or a couple live here as their full time residence. More of a weekender and a private gallery for exhibitions/ showings.

I absolutely love the arch! I was wondering about the dishwasher, too. But as it also doubles as an art gallery, maybe it could be useful for washing wine glasses?
@Nini00000

I think the dishwasher makes sense, usually these kind of art galleries offer some drinks/sparkling wine at their events. Totally agree, I don't see anyone living in this space due to the lack of basically everything.. and weird choice to put a bathtub there imo 🤷🏻

It is beautiful, and light, and the antique elements are beautifully integrated. Perhaps nobody that commented so negatively ever lived south, with on every street good food and amusement. You live outside because of the lovely weather. You chat on terrasses and eat out for a cheap price. This gorgeous home was meant as a gallery and workplace. Not as a fully functioning home. But it can be used as such.

It's so exciting to see how the owner's personal needs are considered and how a space could have many functions depending on what the owner desires to use it for. Even if I would be absolutely miserable living in such a space (and I definitely would be there!), I love seeing how a space is personalised. This is why I follow this channel- to see how different we all are and how different space we need. However, I can often find tips and tricks for my home renovation, even if the overall space presented in the video does not meet my needs. However, some minor details inspire me.

@@liliabird3160 I live in a 54sqm flat, and I think it’s a decent size place I have here. I have a bedroom, livingroom, kitchen and bathroom. Plus some storage space in the basement. I’ve came to conclusion that “small” can be interpreted very diferently. I like the size. Heating bills are reasonable (we have snowy winters here), cleaning is managable, but I have enough space for my dog and hobbies, but also to invite people over. Sometimes I feel it’s funny how people with very serious faces talk how to manage living in such small space. 😅

This is a beautiful, intriguing and highly functional artist home, and I love that it challenges conventional usage of space, as we don’t all live the same lives. For this couple, being able to convert the dining/working space into a pop-up gallery and large project workspace, is the trade-off for a conventional lounging and living room space. I get it. Being able to fold away the custom bed back into a sofa for those gallery guests that inevitably wander up the mezzanine (there’s always someone) is also brilliant. For even more multifunction, they could even choose to use a projector to display video on the white space above their fireplace. It makes me reflect on which uses are really necessary in my home, because I’m also of the multipurpose and multifunction possibility philosophy. I see some people in the comments are criticizing the small kitchen space, but that doesn’t bother me, as there’s that entire glass table for prep. Obviously it’s not a foodie kitchen, but it’s perfect for economy of space, especially in Europe. Well done!

Best use of space i have see, for a very difficult brief. Combining a public gallery with a hidden comfortable home brilliant! Hats of to the architect. I like many others would have preferred a larger fridge and an oven but I don't think it is possible or you would lose the gallery like asthetic. Which is vital to the function the owner required.

Some of the choices are top notch: exposing the arch, taking out the low hung ceilings to gain all that height, and to dig into the ground to create the back half that allows a full bathroom/bedroom. This is where the disconnect where architects build more like an art installation and not for real living. The kitchen is more a mini fridge. I've seen AirBnB's list they have a kitchen and it's a microwave and a mini bar fridge like this. It's not a kitchen. The toilet with no privacy...Imagine the smells that come out of that open space into the rest of the open space. The bathtub I love. Who doesn't like a good soak. I think the arch is a missed opportunity. I would love to see a shallow wood built-in wall size book case. It would be stunning because you could play with the geometry of the shelves and open spaces and have great storage opportunities for books, art pieces, plants, etc. I agree with many others. This is a place for work and showing art. It's not a living space unless needed for a 1-3 nights. It's not a true apartment. She's an architect and she uses this space to show off her skills but it skills for a commercial space not a residential. I also love the big open front doors that brings in all that light.

I love the exposed arch and ceiling and also think that digging down was such a clever choice in giving both a sleeping loft and a full bath. I think that I might have put a small shower in the lower space instead of the large tub (I am not a bath person)and either used the tub wall for closet or pantry space if someone wanted to live there full time. I also would add a row of white upper cabinets in each of the niches so that it doubled the usable cabinet space in the kitchen area. I might have even kept the toilet in the front niche so that it was available to patrons during exhibitions.

I can't see myself in a space similar to this, nor will there be many spaces having a similar structural requirement of a stone arch that becomes the focal point of a design. Clever design elements and aesthetically pleasing - but this apartment does not look like it is lived in permanently. The fridge is one of the smallest I have ever seen. The clothes hanging in the wardrobe look like a hand picked, curated collection based on a matching color scheme of tonal neutrals. Feels more like a work/office space with a spare bed in the mezzanine.

I could easily see myself living here ! Would need food shopping walking distance away. Forgive me Lenka as i repurpose your space for me ..... First kitchenette space becomes drawers. Drawers are best for kitchens better to store items. The glass table goes or is the top is hung on the wall between the kitchenette hutches. A low coffee table replaces it. I'm furniture free'ish kinda person prefering to sit on the ground. The floor would need a different surface and maybe heating? Attached to the ceiling is a sacrificial frame that can be used to rig swings or climbing things for kids play and mum relaxing in a hammock. The bath is removed who got time to clean a bath! Easy clean floor installed. Toliet and shower inclosed more. Maybe a diagonal wall poly carbonate so light fron the back window comes through. Washing machine installed. The bed room tatami mats and futons. No couch bed. My daughter is getting old enough for needing her own room. So this space this might not be the space for us soon but would've be amazing for us while my kids were smaller. And would be amazing for me after the kids leave. Hahaha thank you for the video it's a fantastic space
