the Triton is Mitsubishi’s challenger for the midsize pickup truck segment. Previously carrying the Strada nameplate, Mitsubishi opted to use the Triton name for its sixth generation, bringing it in line with other markets using the Triton name.
The changes for the sixth generation run deeper than its new looks. The all-new Triton has been upgraded with a newly designed ladder frame, delivering superior performance and durability. Now boasting a remarkable 60 percent increase in torsional rigidity, ensuring enhanced stability and long-lasting durability.
In terms of practicality, Mitsubishi mentions the larger and more durable door handles, the wider side steps with improved water drainage, a lower cargo bed height of 820 mm , and sturdy steps integrated on the rear bumper. The exterior design can be further spiced up with an array of optionally available accessories like a sports bar, bed liner, fender extensions, and door garnish.
Safety equipment has also been greatly improved with the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems package now featuring Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert among other systems. All trims come standard with Active Stability & Traction Control which is said to improve stability on winding roads.
The newly developed suspension retains a double wishbone structure for the front suspension, and prioritizes reliability and durability. The upper suspension mounting arm has been moved higher to increase the stroke by 20mm, providing improved road-holding and ride comfort. The rear suspension provides greater ride comfort while retaining its strength and uses a lighter leaf spring system together with thicker shock absorbers.
under the hood Two engine choices are available, both of which are 2.4-liter MIVEC diesel engines that-while mechanically similar to before, did come with numerous improvements for the Triton. These improvements have resulted in better torque delivery as well as becoming quieter and more refined. Power is rated at 183 horses and 430 Nm of torque, while the Athlete gets a more powerful version with a twin-stage turbo. As a result, this model produces 204 horses and 470 Nm of torque.
This is all sent through a six-speed manual or automatic, depending on the variant. Two types of four-wheel drive _ systems are offered. The base model come with the Easy Select 4WD, while the top model gets the Super 4WD-II with Active Yaw Control and Hill Descent Control. Additionally, the Triton Athlete is the only model with an electric power steering.
