The 2.7 4 cylinder turbo has at least been tested and proven pretty reliable in their full sized Silverado for years. Plus if you dig deeper, on its development, it’s been built much like a diesel to last. Canyon AT4 for me, even with out first hearing of the problems of the new Tacoma, its interior is just too much hard cheap looking plastic for me.

I've decided to turn from Toyota to the Colorado ZR2. It's very hard to find the ZR2 on the lot right now. Have to put deposits on one coming in. The GMC Canyon is basically the same truck, but more "luxurious", thus more expensive. Toyota has lost me with pricing and the problems with the Tacoma and Tundra.

Do some homework on that 2.7 turbo max. It’s built to hold up a lot better than the 2.4 Tacoma! And the zr2 is the way to go in the Colorado! Even in the radiant red tint, but I have to say that dealer is out of their minds asking 1300 for wax? Crazy, don’t do me any favors on that!

Plus it soaked up some deeply pitted roads that I was bracing myself for, thinking how the Tacoma handles that. But, my 2020 TRD OR has been otherwise flawless. Trade or not to trade? Thar 2.7 liter 4 cylinder gas plenty of power. Drive a 2023 Colorado trail boss for a full year. Just traded ir in on a 2024 Colorado zr2 just because I wanted the front and rear electronic locking differentials.

there's 2 chevy dealers by me that have unlimited 200,000 miles power train warranties by me for free. Not sure how they do it but I honestly do know a guy with a 10 year old Silverado that they replaced his engine for free. If I get rid of my tacoma I'd go get a zr2 colorado

@@RobMotive, I drove a 24 with the V6. The interior quality has improved over the previous years. There were no rattles. The engine felt solid while I was driving it. I drove it on the highway, in town, and on country roads that were either unpaved or just had gravel. The 24 Ranger handled better than Tacoma in my opinion. There was nothing in back of the truck, so I can’t talk about towing.

Cheaper components, materials and being 100 percent made in Mexico, if I was searching for a mid sized truck I wouldn’t buy a Tacoma or tundra The other auto makers are getting better while Toyota is getting worse unfortunately

@@RobMotive ya I purchased a new 2005 Tacoma that I put 170k miles on and loved it I then traded it in for a 2016 Tacoma and wasn’t a fan of the 6 speed transmission so I traded that in for a 2016 4Runner trd off road that I loved then sold that in 2023 and purchased another 4Runner that I believe is built old school quality 100 Japanese made 2024 is the last year you can buy old school quality that you can run for 500k miles and have issues unfortunately Toyota isn’t building those vehicles no more

The problem with the GM midsized truck is that if your infotainment goes out you can’t operate the headlights or the HVAC system. Crappy ride and handling because of the rear leaf springs. I still can’t find a Tacoma TRD Tacoma Off Road or Sport with the Premium package on it for sale anywhere near me so I may have to go with the GM Colorado or Canyon. No hybrid version in the GM trucks though.

Something about how the cab and bed lack flow or they way they marry up that I don’t like about the Frontier. I also don’t like the orange accents in the interior. However, you get a lot of bang for your buck. The GMC Canyon is the most attractive, new midsized truck imo.

Rob. I owned an original 2004 Z71 Colorado before an accident wiped it out. Good truck. Lots of quality problems, especially with the cylinder head. Ended up buying my current 2019 Tacoma TRD PRO in white. Best automotive decision I’ve ever made. Gen3’s were built to last.

@RobMotive I grew up in a GM household, I also worked for Manheim Auto Auctions for several years. I learned more than I wanted, and it was proven when a Honda product made its way into my driveway. This already used Honda, I put well over 100k miles on had only minimal issues, nothing expensive. Night and day difference from the numerous GM products I've owned and my family memebers owned. I try not to be hateful, but GM is nothing more than Garbage Manufacturing unfortunately. No way will GM ever see a penny of my money. 👍✌️

Something to remember. That Z71 was completely loaded at that price. Unfortunately that dealer added the extra to make a buck. That makes it 4-5k cheaper than a TRD sport loaded which would be a comparable truck.

Rob. You missed to check the interior of Chevy Colorado. I Test drove a Z71 before buying my 2023 Frontier Pro-X and was surprised with the manual driver seat adjustment. $51K MSRP with no bedliner and the interior plastic looks of low quality. I am very happy with my Frontier.
