Porsche has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive innovation with the introduction of the 2025 911 Carrera GTS, the first street-legal 911 to feature a super-lightweight performance hybrid system. This significant upgrade marks a new era for the iconic 911, blending traditional Porsche performance with cutting-edge hybrid technology.
At the heart of the 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid is a newly developed 3.6-liter boxer engine, paired with an innovative hybrid system. This powertrain includes an electric exhaust gas turbocharger, which features an integrated electric motor generating up to 11 kW (15 PS) of electric power. This setup enhances the turbocharger's responsiveness and efficiency, allowing the car to achieve remarkable performance figures. The engine alone produces 485 PS and 570 Nm of torque, while the combined system output reaches an impressive 541 PS and 610 Nm. This allows the 911 Carrera GTS to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds, with a top speed of 312 km/h.
The hybrid system's design focuses on reducing weight and improving overall efficiency. The powertrain includes a permanent magnet synchronous motor integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK), providing an additional torque boost of up to 150 Nm and 40 kW of power. The hybrid system is supported by a compact high-voltage battery, which offers a capacity of 1.9 kWh and operates at 400 V. This battery ensures minimal weight increase, only 50 kilograms more than the previous model, while significantly enhancing driving dynamics and reducing CO₂ emissions.
In addition to its groundbreaking powertrain, the 2025 911 Carrera GTS features extensive design and aerodynamic improvements. Porsche has streamlined the exterior with new bumpers, integrated matrix LED headlights, and advanced cooling systems, including adaptive front diffusers. These updates not only enhance the car's aesthetics but also improve its aerodynamics and cooling efficiency, contributing to better overall performance.
The interior of the new 911 is equally impressive, with a fully digital cockpit featuring a 12.6-inch curved display and a 10.9-inch central touchscreen. The Porsche Driver Experience control concept emphasizes driver-centric design, providing intuitive and fast operation of essential controls. The 911 also boasts expanded connectivity options, including deeper integration with Apple CarPlay® and optional video streaming capabilities while parked.
Porsche's commitment to innovation is evident in the new 911 Carrera as well. This model retains a 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine that has been extensively revamped. The engine now features an intercooler from the Turbo models and achieves a power output of 394 PS and 450 Nm of torque. The 911 Carrera accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, or 3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono package, and reaches a top speed of 294 km/h.
Porsche has modernized four of its six model lines within months, including the Panamera, Taycan, Macan, and now the 911. This rapid evolution underscores Porsche's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. CEO Oliver Blume emphasizes the brand's focus on offering highly customizable and exclusive experiences.
The new 911 Carrera and Carrera GTS models can be ordered as Coupé and Cabriolet variants with rear-wheel drive. The Carrera GTS also offers all-wheel drive and the Targa body variant, exclusively with all-wheel drive. Both models come standard with Porsche's PDK transmission, promising an exhilarating driving experience.
With the introduction of the 2025 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid, Porsche continues to push the boundaries of automotive engineering, delivering a sports car that combines traditional performance with cutting-edge hybrid technology for an unmatched driving experience.
