Intersting car, shame it has to be a shell swop but i guess the original shell is too far gone

Fantastic, I will watch the progress on this one, hopefully get a few tips with my nut and bolt rebuild of my 1981 Drophead 🙂

Why use a donor shell, it will not be a matching numbers car, or original? Why not convert and restore vehicles original shell, to make it original.

I wondered that too, it seems a little odd to do that especially as the replacement is not brand new. It seems as though the 'restored' car is little more than a replica.

Personally I think it’s a bit daft to reconvert the TR8 to LHD… the RHD is a legitimate part of the history of that car, but if the owner is that fanatical then fair enough but you’re changing the bodyshell from original historic to an ordinary donor…..

The car has had a reshell in the past to RHD so the customer wants to put the car back to original specifications in LHD the car will be built to as new fully restored factory condition so what is your argument

The car, as with a lot of development / Special Tuning / Rally cars has had a shell swap - this one had had a non-factory shell swap in its past, so by reshelling it into correct TR8 LHD shell (I repatriated this one from North America for this project) means that it is more historically correct than it was before.

A "copy" of the original then? Guessing it will go on the road under the id from the donor shell else it falls the wrong side of the points based rules. Customers car, customers rules. Just doesn't make sense to me

@@richardhudson8574 A museum piece to show ‘exactly’ what a brand new test / development TR8 would have looked like between being built and being used for proper work…. just presumably much better quality than the Speke factory ever achieved.

As soon as that TR8 is reshelled it wont be the same car or how it left the factory. The shell is the main part of the car and it would technically be a ringer making out its original. This car can never be said to be an original prototype as it should now have the US car identity making it a standard TR 8. The original shell should be repaired then the identity will be correct. I hope the owner does not try to say it’s an original prototype because that will be false.
