In this video, Dr. Doug Lucas discusses Lactoferrin, a naturally occurring protein found in the milk of mammals, including humans. It has various health benefits, including antibacterial and antiviral properties, regulation of iron absorption and metabolism, anti-inflammatory effects, and improvement of immune function and gut health. Lactoferrin has been shown to be particularly effective in promoting bone health by stimulating bone formation and suppressing bone resorption. Human studies have demonstrated positive effects on inflammation and bone turnover markers!

ARG costs almost sixty dollars for a twenty-two day supply! That is extremely frustrating! Not only is it very expensive, but you don't even get a full months worth. Regardless of how high quality a supplement is and how expensive it is, it should always be sold at a minimum of a one month supply!

Not sure who turned me on to MBP (milk basic protein) but apparently it's about 54% lactoferrin...if anyone wonders. I've been taking it since I discovered it, about 3-4 months. Having a REMS scan next week...it'll be my first and I know it can't be compared...really...to DEXA, just thought I'd see what it said versus DEXA. Hopefully there will be some encouragement. On that note, does anyone here have any insights as to how accurate DEXA is for really bad bones? A more "functionally" based MD told me DEXA really isn't calibrated for numbers in the "polar regions" (his term). Therefore, my "significant improvement" between this year and last is invalid; I could be better or not worse, but the first reading could've been way off, too, he said. No way to tell except over time. If that's the case, then it would be true if I was taking pharmaceuticals, too, right? I've also heard DEXA is super variable for anyone, 30 readings for the same person on the same day with the same machine would give 30 different results. That makes sense enough, and I've read that, specific to the hip at least, improvement has to be 5% or greater to be considered significant. But if that's true, wouldn't this also be true for...getting worse (degradation? what word is opposite of improvement?) I get that's why we don't want to get scans too often, then, and I'm pretty sure Dr Lucas would say bone markers are better. Wish those were as easy to get as DEXAs.... But then, I've read if you're fasting, not fasting, other things can make bone marker results kind of sketchy too. Different labs.... All in all, it seems like there might be no truly reliable way to show you're making progress? Which kind of sucks because my bones were indeed in "the polar regions" and it FELT like it, yet here I am evading the drugs. (I'd like to at least be 65 before I start them. 😅) Well, I DO feel better and I'm definitely stronger--strength IS something you can measure and maybe the best fracture reduction anyway.

FYI....In 1945, a magazine called "Coronet" fabricated an article, "Raw Milk Can Kill You," falsely blaming raw milk for an outbreak of brucellosis in a town called Crossroads, U.S.A., killing one-third of the inhabitants. The Reader's Digest picked up the story and ran it a year later. Just one problem: there was no town called Crossroads and no outbreak of brucellosis. The whole story was made up. And lies about raw milk have continued ever since. Unfortunately, the fictitious Crossroads story paved the way for baseless laws against selling raw milk, starting with Michigan in 1948. In 2007, John F. Sheehan, JD, US Food and Drug Administration, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Division of Dairy and Egg Safety, prepared a Powerpoint maligning raw milk; it was presented to the 2005 National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS) by Cindy Leonard, MS.2 As shown in the table below, all of the fifteen reports associating outbreaks of foodborne illness with raw milk that Sheehan cites are seriously flawed. For example, in two of the fifteen, the study authors presented no evidence that anyone consumed raw milk products and in one of them, the outbreak did not even exist. Not one of the studies showed that pasteurization would have prevented the outbreak.

The standards for raw milk are veey high. Animals and milk are tested much more often. Animals aren't given antibiotics unless they're actually sick. And lactoferrin is not raw milk. Milk also has a lot of phosphorous which is acidic to bones ... also nessisary for bones too.

But Dr. Doug, -- Many people who grew up on farms & milked their own cows and drank their Raw Milk, said that they still got Osteoporosis.
@Padraigp
@Padraigp Ай бұрын
The rise of osteoparosis in countries that never drank milk rose along with milk consumption. Milk has a lot of phosphorous and that is acidic for bones ...it might be fine for cows growing bones but when we aren't growing bones we don't need much phosphorous and the body uses calcium and magnesium to neutralise acid in the body. But there can be components which are ok. I dont know where the phosphorous part of the milk is maybe its in the whey component. No idea. I do know that as milk consumptions rises so does osteoparosis according to sone studies anyway and I suspect that the phosphorous is why. That's just my guess. Horsetail has Allanton which comphrey has which helps osteoblast production it also has silica and is safer than comohrey although comohrey seems to be OK unless youre guzzling it by the gallon for months.

@@Padraigp -- You're right, thank you for the reminder. I wonder if certain cheeses are safe? ie: Gouda and Jarlsberg, due to the vitamin K2 content. I'm confused by your last statement tho. Is Horsetail better or Comfrey or Silica on it's own?
@Padraigp
@Padraigp Ай бұрын
@OMGaNEWBIE so horsetail has silica in it. It also has a chemical called Allanton which is in comphrey too. Comphrey is sometimes called knit bone because Allanton encourages blast production helps heal bones. Comphrey is seen by some as toxic because one woman got liver failure from drinking a gallon of it a day as well as tablets for four months. SHe recovered from the liver failure. Comphrey is banned in a lot of countries because of this danger. But horsetail also contains the thing that comphrey has which helps the blasts form new bone. Silica is good because it helps bone hair and nail strength. Sorry if my explanation is all over the place I have brain fog and its bad today from the heat and so I hope I didn't confuse you even more lol!
@Padraigp
@Padraigp Ай бұрын
@OMGaNEWBIE I dunno I went down a short rabbit hole there and found out cows need phosphorous to feed their gut micbiome which digests cellulose...so maybe thats why cows milk has a lot. I know sheep and I think goat has less...my mom has to avoid phosphorus so she can't drink cow milk but she does eat cheese and usually goat or sheep but she eats other cow cheese. Maybe just cos she can give up milk but can't live without cheese. For some reason it says low fat milk has more phosphorous so ... I dunno that's all I found out.
