A great bike and a very practical adaptation. The removable bag is a positive innovation IMO as it makes it more convenient to charge at home and in restaurants/pubs and the bike frame is lighter for carrying. The bigger City bag has a waterproof cover stashed in a side pocket. I’ve had one for a month in the UK - sometimes I ride without the battery, other times when weather is windy I use the battery (or on a day trip with lots of hills I take the fast charger too). Love it!

He was there at the Soho nyc store when I picked up my ebike 2 days ago. He looks great. He is so informative. They are out of the back rack with the wheels and the bigger bag. My suspension rubber thing doesn’t look like that . It is harder not flexible and it doesn’t ride well. He suggested a gel seat. Going back to see if they have a softer one.

The electric Brompton sound dreadfully expensive until you factor in other travel expenses. A zone 1-5 Underground season ticket will cost you over £2700 ($3500) a year.

How does this E-Bike compare with the Tern Vektron E-Bike. I know there is a difference between the position of the motor. I am trying to decide between the two brands. Uphill climb performance, weight, transportability is important but most of all the strength of the frame loaded down, going long distances with no light weight person as bicyclist?

Amazing some of the dumb comments on here. The bike has been on sale for almost a year in the UK with 4 years development and 1-year preproduction model prior to that. This is not something Brompton have dreamt up overnight.

Very innovative, but I prefer the larger tire on the lectric. Also I dont like the exposed battery. I like mine to be hidden. I would think that having the battery on the outside invites theft. It is however a very nice unit and if they could hide the battery, and make bigger tires, maybe 20", wides. But then it wouldnt be what it is, right? Very thoughtful bike. Good review as well.

The 2 speed has a two cog derailleur that cleverly uses the chain tensioner that all Bromptons have anyway, slightly modified. The 6 gear combines the derailleur with a ultra wide ratio Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub gear that is specially made for Brompton. One change on the derailleur halves a change on the hub gear to give nice even steps. There is, of course a weight and cost penalty with the 6 speed. I went for the six speed and I don't regret it. I do live in a very hilly area. I rather like the esoteric thinking behind the gearing system.

I have an electric Brompton , but the problem I find is there is no place to fit a shackle on the frame, that does not get in the way. I have a fitting behind the seat post but it is not good. I know it folds nicely but my insurance company insists I have a Gold lock specification shackle. You would not leave £2500 in a pile of money on the road when you go into buy a paper without securing it.

Nicholas Lerias literally explains that stuff is on the outside so its easier to get to to replace, which means cheaper servicing in the future. Function over form, although for the most part, brompton does do form rather well.

Yes, made for that except you can’t fold the bike with a pack on pannier. I’ve tried it with a 48 litre backpack plus tent & sleeping bag. Search for Brompton travel videos on KZbin for ideas.

Well you know, I've actually ridden a regular Brompton for 8 years in New York and travelled all over the world with it. Only joined Brompton 1.5 years ago. So yes of course I'm displaying everything in a good light but frankly - that's been my real life experience with Brompton. I can tell you from personal - non marketing - experience that this is the only ebike I'd consider purchasing New York. Glad you found Cort as well. He's a great benefit to the whole ebike community.

Cort manages to work hard to hide his intelligence and experience, with lightweight rambling on about trivial farkle in his reviews, with the endpoint apparently being purchase , not use or long term maintenance, support or application. Your presentation shows little of the significance of the company threatening investment of time and money Brompton put into the bike . Justin in Vancouver has put more into discussing where this bike fits in than Brompton has, more into making it useful. Not as elegantly, at times, but a lot more comprehensively. Foldies make compromises for optimization in targeted applications. Little of this was evident. Ebikes have qualities of ride , range, cost, portability and serviceability and support that were not well addressed. Sales motivated by that level of introduction appear to most often lead to misused garage jewelry rather than well used tools. I think you can do better.

As a standard Brompton owner for years, and an electric on order, it sounds like a good idea, sort of. I think the thing to stall your idea is the mounting block for the bag on the frame. The non-electric has a simpler block design, with no electrical contacts naturally, versus the electrical block that has the "brain" computer actually in it. Go to a Brompton boutique or seller and see if one bag fits on the other's mount. You don't want to disassemble their electrical work! But, you could just leave the motor in, it freewheels well, and remove the battery from the big bag and use that extra space as a poke hole for smaller items. Happy journeys! (or buy electric for home and a standard for overseas travel???)

If the electric Brompton could have all its electric parts removed and replaced with regular Brompton parts, and then returned to its electric form again, then it's a massive win. Meaning, a regular Brompton should also be able to upgrade to an electric version by purchasing the electric components. If this can't be done, it's just a ripoff for all the people who already have Bromptons and would like it to be electric.

I have only seen the fat bike (Beluga) and Velador (1.95 inch tires). Mine will have a longer battery life (14 Ah) and 2.35 inch tires. Paid about a grand for it. We'll see. I should be getting it today.
