I grew up in Maine, 13 miles inland from Portland, in a nine room, three story Colonial in the 1950s and 1960s. What a life that was! A covered bridge led from my grandmother’s property on Windham Hill to my first home, a log cabin my father built after the war, before we moved to Gorham.

I appreciate that what you said about the tour buses. Having one single vehicle of tourists instead of like, 30 individual cars clogging up the roads is ideal in my opinion. Especially for those who can't afford a car/driving or are disabled, it gives them an opportunity to go on a trip like this. Amazing video as always!!!

Lived in New England almost 30 years.. and have hiked a dozen of the 4k footers up in NH multiple times over the years. If I got bored on a weekend, I would just drive up to the Kanc and overnight in north Conway. The Cape -- aka Cape Cod -- was my second choice. Great memories! Will probably make my way back there someday and play out my innings.

I have been to all those places numerous times, and it never gets old. Each fall we do what we call the loop. We live on the south coast of Massachusetts, and we travel west through Rhode Island and Connecticut then up north through the Berkshires to Vermont and then east through New Hampshire and Maine. The Rockwell Museum is a must stop, one of my favorite places anywhere. We head back from Arcadia down east along the coast through Boston and then back home. For the most part we travel back roads taking our time. Since I retired, we have travelled all over this country, but I must admit fall in New England is the best. Thanks for posting.

I loved watching your video adventures there in New England. I am native Southern Californian girl but lived in New Hampshire for 10.5 years, I would like to give you and anyone else some suggestions if you visit New England again for Fall Foliage. First I will say New Hampshire has the most gorgeous Fall Foliage sights, though everyone always says Vermont. I suggest the southern drive across both states. For Vermont drive route 7 that you start on from eastern NY turns into art 9 as you drive east over the Green Mountains. You will drive through historical towns like Hoosick, NY Bennington and Wilmington, VT and over Hogback Mountain! That is one beautiful drive! Then you take Rt 9 and continue on into New Hampshire. Visiting Keene, NH is a must! Now to me the drive from Keene on Rt 9 all the way to Hillsboro,NH is one of THE MOST breathtaking views of Fall Color! Then drive south on the 202 and it will take you to beautiful small towns like Antrim (where I lived), Bennington, and Peterborough,NH. And since you love hiking try hiking Mount Monadnock! Just a suggestion

This is the reason i like New England. Especially small towns. Best routes to get to VT are Rtes 7 and 8. Nice bridges on Rte 100 and awesome views. Have traveled these roads many times. Cabot Creamery used to have a small store in S. Londonderry. Post covid that's no longer there. Love this video. Haven't been able to go anywhere since 2019. I really miss it. I live in CT so it used to be a weekend camping trip. Thanks for the ride.
@Historian212 Жыл бұрын
Very nice video of the area. I’m a native NYC-er who moved to western MA about 20 years ago. I was surprised that you flew all the way to JFK to start a drive through New England, as the drive from JFK to get north of NYC can take over an hour, on a good day. LaGuardia or Newark airports would have been better choices, assuming you wanted to start from southern New England and work your way north for the sake of the video. For those planning a trip, though, avoid the NYC-metro area altogether. It’s not part of New England, and why deal with the hassle? Good alternatives are flying into Logan airport in Boston, or Bradley airport in Hartford. Also, in re leaf viewing: the vibrancy of the colors can vary from year to year, so be aware of that. New England weather is very changeable, so bring layers. Inland, in Sept-Oct, temps typically range from the 70s during the day to the 40s at night (Fahrenheit). Mt. Washington is more extreme, of course. Colors will look much more vibrant on a bright, sunny day, but New England can be gray and cloudy in the fall. If it rains, though, the colors can look more intense. When the sun comes out after a rain, you’ll often be able to find a rainbow or two. Watch local weather to get the leaf-color report in season, which tracks peak colors. Some New Englanders may get a little grumbly about traffic and tour buses during “leaf peeping” season, but ignore that; our economy benefits a lot from visitors and fall tourism, and most New Englanders appreciate that. Thanks, gentlemen, for visiting.

I enjoyed yet another of your Roadtrip with Pops videos. We followed most of this route a couple of weeks ahead of you in our RV. Fall colors were just starting when we arrived at the end of Sept. We missed the Flume hike that looked incredible. I am a covered bridge guy too and really enjoyed the Covered Bridge Gift Shoppe that is actually ON the bridge. Stayed at NFS campground across the street from the Albany covered bridge. You didn’t miss much on the Ben & Jerry’s tour. You can’t take photos anyway. Stayed in the Berkshires, but not a Norman Rockwell fan. Did the Alice’s Restaurant Massacree pilgrimage in Stockbridge and nearby Great Barrington instead (Norman Rockwell’s studio was upstairs from Alice’s restaurant). Did a tour of the Trappe family lodge that included a welcome by a Trappe family member. Did the Cog railway too commemorating 50 years since I climbed Mt. Washington in 1972 while my family drove up and met me at the top. Picking the last trip of the day for the sunset was a good choice.

Its very beautiful, and thanks for sharing. I love anything like this, especially nature in all its hues. Pretty spectacular coloures..if I were there I would need more than 2hours for sure, and if I were an artist 🎨 I would paint it to canvas, but I'm not, so would be sure to take photos and see whilst there if some poetic words sprang to mind..if not then I would diary it! Luckily there are tons of beauty spots back here, and I have written poetry about, but have to be in a specific and nostalgic mood/mind frame to do so! What I love about antiquity as in Historical places is capturing how the ancients saw such places and getting the energetic vibe of such places..this is why I guess I love historic sites. One American place I love in particular is Salem Massachusites and for a specific reason! Thanks for sharing ..
