NEW Ford F-150 Tremor (5.0L V8): It's A Budget Raptor R!

Ford really stepped it up with this 4th generation 5.0L, they are more punchy because the 2021+ V8 has a lower lift torque biased camshaft setup and a larger long tube runner intake manifold. Flattened that torque curve right out over the previous iterations. On top of that they were still able to offer more top end horsepower despite the torquey cam lobes by upping the throttle body size to 87mm from the previous 80mm sizing. Overall they cranked up the entire power curve across the board. Kudos to the engineers.

@@ralphpaglucca1399EXACTLY the 3.5 is quicker and tows better. Why anyone would get the 5.0 unless supercharging is beyond me. The 5.0 is a MUSTANG motor. High revving low torque motor. When towing it’s so loud because it’s so far up in the rev range you can’t hear in the cab. The 3.5 is a much better motor for the truck. It work less when working. It tows lower in the rev range . There is a REASON Toyota went to the 3.5 turbo charged motor too. The ONLY advantage to the 5.0 is it sounds better. If you want a better sounding vehicle buy the damn mustang. That’s what this motor is FOR. According to Ford mechanics the second generation 3.5 is JUST AS RELIABLE as the 5.0 Did we mention the 3.5 is quicker AND faster than the 5.0

I’ll take the 4th gen 5.0L over the 3.5 any day, it’s a much more overbuilt engine than the 3.5 EcoBoost. Sinter forged connecting rods, forged steel crankshaft, heavily webbed block. Good for 800-900 horse on stock internals. It’s way less stressed on its entirely forged bottom end than the high boost EcoBoost. 5.0 in the F-150 is not a Mustang engine. Different cams, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds. 400 horsepower and 410 lb ft of torque @4,250 rpm is more potent than any other V8 in the segment that isn’t the GM 6.2. 5.0 is a great engine

I saw one in person at my local Ford dealer and it looked good. But it was priced around $76K MSRP. You can buy a F250 XLT Tremor for less but the F150 Tremor would probably be a nicer all-around daily driver.

i just purchased this exact truck, same color, 5.0, 401 A package, could not find a 402 A in my area. it rides great. i added a leveling kit from Ford and spray in liner and bed cover and it is perfect. i have had many F-150's and this rates at the top for sure.

Tremor with the Torsen front differential, is pretty much all you need for a offroady truck. Raptor/TRX is nothing but a status symbol in my opinion.

I get over 20 mpg combined in mine. Got almost 24 mpg on my trip to Denver. Maybe mine is a unicorn, but I'm loving it. Especially the lack of auto start/stop when I ordered it. I got the coyote with the intention of supercharging it...Then I experienced the mpg. Now I am torn. Peace, Love!!

Hey Ben,I have a 2023 Tremor with the 5.0-I have already put a cold air intake,Corsa Sport exhaust,for now-Down the road I’ll get long tube header’s and a tune. If you have another chance to drive one put it in Sport Mode and put it in two wheel drive and it really makes a big difference,that’s how I drive mine all the time.

If I were to chose a ford pickup it would be this one. Raptor is way too expensive, and the R is downright impractical. This is a mature, capable and reasonable.

The super charger is $9500 plus labor to install. Lifting wont get you the live valve suspension that the Raptor has. In fact it will make your truck less capable unless you install an ICON type suspension system.

I ordered and purchased a 2023 Platinum black appearance package 5.0 4X4 in November 2022. I installed the Whipple supercharger, Ford Performance 22" wheels with Michelin tires, B-Woody traction bars, Ford Performance rear diff cover, J&L catch can, GESI catalytic converters etc... easy $100k doing all the work myself. I then purchased the exact Tremor Ben is driving in avalanche grey for my daily driver. I have $170 K in the TWO trucks versus a single Raptor R that my friend purchased for $176 K. I would rather have my two than the one. I am a retired Ford Senior Master technician that waited 27 years for a new truck and my amazing wife let me get two for the price of one. Not bragging just saying.

I was going to get a Tremor back when I was looking for a truck. But, the Tremor didn't have the V8 engine or a blackout package then. So I got the Ram Limited Night Edition. Glad I did!

ITs also more street friendly than the Raptor. Sadly in 2024 to get the torsion front end you have to get the 402A package, which is $12,000 more than the 401A Tremor. It does need the optional bed utility package and tow haul, about $1,000 over base price.

I want one of these, I’d definitely put some fiber glass fenders front and rear and pre runner it, match the paint etc. I don’t like graphics on trucks imo it’s cringe with the tremor on the back panels and even the raptor, unless you get it without it.

Two tips from someone who owned a 5.0 Lariat for 5 years: 1) Do not superchage the engine unless you have deep pockets. My dealer installed supercharged engine broke TWICE (actual cylinder wall cracked) twice in 26k miles. 2) mine have 4A and 4A is an absolute requirement for the v8. No 4A kills the truck, you will just burn the rear tires off. Truck looks nice but it is worthless, I wouldn't get this.

@@vipse1984 4 Auto. Basically, its 4 wheel drive when you need it, that will automatically kick in, like on hard acceleration. The other type of 4wd F150s have is just always on, so it's only for offroad.

Both nice trucks. Problem is ZR2 only comes with a 24 gallon fuel tank. Tremor comes with a 36. Plus compare payload capacity. They don't compare.

I got a Tremor 5.0 a few weeks ago (first new truck in 13 years). Its averaging over 20 mpg and was 23 mpg on a 3 hour trip without even being broken in yet. 600 miles on the dealer fuel fill and still showing 120 left. Blew me away given I'm used to 16-17 at best in my 2010 5.4. Hardly a gas guzzler (relative to half tons)......5.0 does better than the Ecoboost in real world mpg.

I almost bought a Trailboss 6.2 and would have if I found the right one, before I discovered they put the 5.0 in the Tremor. Trailboss has less payload and 1000 lbs less towing and a 10 gallon smaller gas tank than the Tremor so I wouldn't say its a much better truck. I tow 8,500 lbs occasionally and the Trailboss only does 9000 vs 10,000+ on the Ford. Family thought the Trailboss was ugly (I liked both) so that was that. I'm glad GM actually has an interior that isn't a joke now...the 2023s are sharp.
