Riding a redshift stem for a year or so. On gravel descents, they are a game changer. The thing to note is that there is far more flex when you are further away from the stem (hoods or drops).
@yakwabbit
@yakwabbit Жыл бұрын
That's a great point to share. I have my ShockStop stems (2 different bikes) setup so that there is no flex when I'm in the drops sprinting, a little flex when I'm on the bar tops, and all the squish when in on the hoods. I love this stem, and the matching seat post.

100% I wasn't sure when I ordered it and not any more so when I saw how minimalist it is. But they are absolutely great. I had one on my gravel bike all winter and no brown stripe 🙂 More importantly, it stayed in place. No fuss. Just worked. And when I thought winter was over, I took it off only to have it start raining as I was heading out a week later. Put it right back on. So easy. Hopefully it is now off and staying off until October.

Hey guys, I have been riding with the pro version Red shift stem on my gravel bike. I have a Rondo Ruut CF2. I absolutely love it. It makes any kind of rough road much more enjoyable, and less jarring. And when I’m riding it on the road, I don’t even notice it. Well worth the money for the pro version.

Been riding the shockstop pro stem for a little over a year now. Huge fan - the flex is impressive and a savior on washboard but not too flexy that I'm annoyed by bob when standing/climbing (though it is noticeable when transitioning from a rigid stem, I got used to it after the first couple rides). Pro version is not a ton lighter than the regular but looks way nicer and the graphics are stealth.

I got a pair of the Velosambas. They've got a VERY low volume toebox. I'm hoping they stretch out some, but being "vegan leather" I'm doubtful. They look great, though! Also got the LTwoo GR9 hydro 11 speed carbon groupset (already had an 11-speed cassette I really liked, and the silver graphics looked better on my bike than the gold of the GRT). Loving it. I'm an old Campag loyalist, so the shifters are a dream come true for me. Even Ekar doesn't have the multi-gear release that classic Campag Ultrashift levers have

Dear Cade. Really enjoy your videos and got into cycling last year both for fitness and utility. I really enjoy being able to take a small vehicle into a new town for exploring as well as using the bike paths, in total I have ridden 600 miles since October. However I recently discovered this paper which I find concerning and deterring from riding my bike "Evaluation of Noise Exposure Secondary to wind noise in cyclists". The paper states that are 10mph wind speed it is equivalent to 85dBa which is enough to damage hearing. I can easily maintain 13-15 mph which raises it up to 90dBa. Another study that references this paper measured 75 dBa with an average speed of 10 mph. Both of this papers used microphones mounted near the ear but not in the ear canal. Thus I have reservations of the results, however assuming the results are correct then cycling has risk for hearing loss. These papers also implicate that simply standing in a breeze of 10mphs can be damaging to hearing (thus my reservation). Also cycling with ear plugs is no fun and could be considered borderline dangerous. With that background my question is do professional cyclists experience hearing loss (much higher average speed)? Are people aware of the risk? I am wondering if maybe this could be talked about in a future show?

You should compare the Redshift suspension seatposts to the Cane Creek Eesilk versions. They both have versions with 20mm and 35mm of travel, but I believe the Eesilk versions are lighter, at least the Eesilk+ seatposts I use are (35mm travel version). Let me put it another way: does it not feel horrible trying to pedal smoothly when you hit a huge pothole and it bounces you up off the saddle? The eeSilk even for road riding is great for this exact reason. Makes horrible tarmac just feel that much smoother. No downsides. They are very stiff so they’re not doing anything if the road is smooth.

There’s kinda nothing new about the Redshift suspension stem. I remember back 25 or 30 years ago, there was a debate about whether it was better to suspend the bike (shocks) or suspend the rider (rigid bike with suspension seat post and stem.) There were products like the Girvin Flex Stem. They were used on Pro-Flex mountain bikes, which was bought out by K2, and then K2 bikes went away (I think.) There was comfort in suspend the rider systems, including road bikes like Soft Ride, which instead of a seat post, had a nearly horizontal beam attached to the top tube near the head tube, with the seat on the flexible beam. They were favorites of triathlon riders because of some perceived aerodynamic benefits. Anyway, suspend the bike with wheels that move due to front suspension fork and rear shock with travel has proven to be the better option for MTBs, given they allow the wheel to track along the ground increasing tire to ground contact and thus enhancing control.
