In this video the boys and I will be doing an unboxing, test and review of the Jetson Bolt Pro folding electric bike we picked up at our local Costco. The item number for Costco is 1426314. We've been wanting to try an E-Bike and when we came across this one I couldn't resist, especially at this price point.
I have also prepared another video (Part 2) that will cover the assembly and charging of the bike. Make sure to check it out! • Jetson Bolt Pro Electr...

@Hypocrite Troll Bot - Well thank you very much for the compliment! I tried to cover everything after using the bike for about a week and a half. The only thing I wished I would have included is the bike can be a little wobbly until you get used to it. I think it's because of the smaller wheels. It's a great bike though. We liked it so much we went and got another one so each of our boys could have one to ride. The kids love 'em! Dad thinks they're pretty fun too. @DanielinLaTuna - Well thank you for the compliment Daniel! We have been really happy with our bike. The boys have put a lot of miles on them and they continue to do great with no problems. I think the pedal option is a fantastic feature because it allows us to pedal on flat surfaces to conserve the battery if need be, it allows us to go up some pretty steep hills around here with ease and (like you mentioned) if the battery does run out you can pedal the bike home as opposed to walking it. This is just a great little bike for the money IMHO. Glad to hear your sister is enjoying hers, I bet you would too. Thnaks for stopping by!

Fantastic review! As I own the same ebike myself I can say that I agree with your assessment and also would recommend the cantilever style rear post rack ( I have saddle bags on the one I use and it's a great addition) The only thing I found to be in a little disagreement with is that I find the front headlight to be lacking in brightness for night riding in dark areas. I have circumvented this easily however with the addition of a very bright small handheld flashlight being zip tied to the center of the top of the handle bar. Aesthetically it is not even very noticeable and it functions perfectly as an addition to the front headlight. I also attached a very bright small battery operated rear light to the back top of the rear fender. For the most part I found your review to be quite in-depth and right on point. I couldn't agree more that at this price point it is a phenomenal deal! Being that I weigh 210 lbs I am entirely impressed that this little ebike can pull me along as zippy as it does, and, it does it well. The build quality is top-notch, and, is very well built especially considering the price point. Thanks for the review I'm sure it will help a lot of people enteringinto this fascinating, quickly changing market of electric bicycling.

@Donald Wiser - Wow Donald, thank you so much for the great compliment on my review! They're great bikes and continue to do really well for us. When we ride our bike in the evening we noticed light on the big trees that line the sides of our street that were quite a ways off, however it seems that the bulb is more of a floodlight than a spotlight that was directed to the road in front of the bike so I think you make a great point. Adding the spotlight to the front as you did is a good idea, I bet it's perfect now. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment that will help me and others - much appreciated!

@@javosgarage Absolutely! Love to see enthusiastic like minded people getting out on bikes and with this field expanding, technology becoming more advanced and prices coming into a doable realm for many more of us, I try to pay attention to a lot of reviews to stay current. Some are pretty good. Others leave me asking more questions than I had before watching it. I though you nailed it well and hope you do future reviews on whatever the product might be. You covered this bike well! I didn't remember to point out that I do agree with you on the seat being a little harsh for more lengthly bike rides. I'm going to trade mine out for a seat that I have off of another bike with a minimum travel post shock on it as well to take the edge off of bumps and jolts. I also find myself wanting to relax one arm off of the handle while riding in cruise control... And, notice the bike can become a bit squirrely feeling on the rougher roads... Overall, it's a great bike and really would still be at $100-$150 more than Costco sold it for! Thanks again... Happy riding!

@Donald Wiser - You know Donald I had been wanting to try an ebike for some time but the cost just didn't justify a purchase for us. One night the boys and I were wandering around Costco while the wife was shopping and came across this bike. I couldn't believe the price and figured it would really be junk but thought it would be fun to try and quite honestly, do a review video. We were really surprised, this is a great bike and for the money it can't be beat. Looking back I regret neglecting how the bike can tend to be a bit squirrely as you mentioned. I'm thinking this is due to the smaller 14" wheels. However, we liked the bike so much we went and purchased another one so each of the boys will be able to ride. We will definitely be having some happy riding, you do as well!

@Brad Callahan - Hi Brad. Sorry for the delay, we decided to get away for a few days so I'm just now getting a chance to respond to comments. I'm sorry but I'm not real knowledgeable when it comes to bike racks. I can tell you a few things - We have a hitch mounted 4 bike rack that is the "hanging" style if you will and this bike would not work with that rack. I think it may be okay if your rack is the kind where the wheels sit on a rail. I did go out and get a few measurements off the bike - it's overall length is 46" and the distance between the center of the hubs is 32". Hopefully that info can help you decide if it would work for you. Let me know if you have any other questions I can't directly answer, LOL! If I don't know I will at least try to get some info that will help. Thanks for stopping by!

Hey loved your tutorial, did you have a problem with you bike stopping suddenly right when you start to use the acceleration? Just wondering thanks

I haven't had that issue. Almost sounds like a possible short in the motor caused by a quick rotation when accelerating. I'm waiting and or doing some research to see if I can find a cheap modified battery of 36v and more ah. 8.0-9.0ah would be better than 6.0ah and perhaps get more miles ranges out of it... Now I do wish there is a way to upgrade the hub motor and controller to get unlocked speed. I prefer 18-21 mph . A 350w motor is capable of up to 25mph but I get it for longevity etc...let's hope in time someone comes out with upgrades and mods... Great video by the way!

@@javosgarage So I managed to open it up and looked at the battery and the controller/ecu board that controls all the stuff on the bike. I noticed there were two plugs not being used. One with a 4 pin and the other 1 with a 2 pin. I would like to find out what these are or perhaps someone with the old bolt controller and compare differences. But for now what I really like to do is find or mod a higher amp rate battery in 36v to fit/work with this new bolt pro. Even a controller 36v or a new 48v with a smaller battery in 48v 6.0+an I'm happy. Since this hub motor is 350w at up to 15.5mph and longevity in stock form I'm sure if we can get a new compatible 36v/48v controller with or without upgrade battery in 36v/48v form it may allow us to use full speed of the 350w at 20-25mph. Just one thing don't know of longevity now lol....I'll keep you all updated if I ever come across something even if it's a good mod or a link with working solutions 👍

@oinkpiggin - Our bike is doing great. The kids have racked up more miles than I can count at this point. We have had no issues with the bike and the battery life has remained stable with no decline that we've noticed. It's still a great deal IMHO. Very happy with it. Like any mass produced, man-made product I'm sure there are some customers who have had problems with their bikes but ours is just great, couldn't be happier. *Something to note - we got ours at CostCo and when we did I talked to a manager there who told me if we had any problems with it over the next year or so we could return it for refund. Now quite frankly I haven't tested his "verbal" return policy but my wife has returned some things after some time has passed and never had a problem. If you're going to get one, I would order it through them so at least you would have some sort of safety net in the event of problems. Just my 2 pennies worth of advice.

Neela is correct - the seat height is adjustable but I really think the answer to your question is it kind of depends on the height of the rider. Ultimately, this is somewhat of a compact bike that is designed for easy storage so don't expect the same fit as a full size bike. If it helps, I went out and raised the seat on ours and it ended up at 32" in height. Another thing, you may take a closer look towards the end of the video when we were riding it out in the country. @javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
@Sherronda Nance - Hello Sherronda! Sorry for the delay. I totally understand your concern about securing the bike. These bikes are real popular so I'm sure a would be thief would love to get one. When we use ours for trips to the store we make sure it is fastened to something very sturdy and run the bike lock through the carrying handle on the frame. We don't run it through the wheels since you could unbolt those and still get the bike so we make sure to secure the main frame of the bike. I would think the church would allow him to store his bike somewhere inside, especially since it can be folded up into such a small package. Also, make note of the serial number on the bike so in the event it is stolen the police "may" get it returned to you by verifying the serial number. Your son is going to LOVE this btw! My kids have a blast riding this thing and so far it has been holding up really well. Hope that helps you a bit, let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi how old is your youngest son? Thinking about buying for my 9 year old but didn’t know if it would be too big. Thanks!!
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
@NW Kuehn - Our youngest was 10 when we filmed this review and I can tell you the bike wasn't too big for him. The height of the handlebars is not adjustable, however being able to adjust the seat height was nice and made it so the bike was able to accommodate both my of my boys. I bet your your 9 year old will love it!

Where did you get your back basket?
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
@swing jiang - We got that at our local WalMart. It's this one here: amzn.to/2NcMxr6 We've been really happy with it at this point. The boys use it a lot when going to the store or a friend's house to carry things with no problems. BTW - just so I don't get in trouble, that is an Amazon Affiliate link.

@javosgarage

@mevy valentino - We didn't have one for the front but we did put a Bell cargo rack on the back that we have used quite a bit and it's still holding up well even with the kids. It was this one: amzn.to/33bQull Hope that answers your question. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for stopping by! BTW, just so I don't get in trouble - I am an Amazon Associate and that is an affiliate link.

few pointers. rear light you are refering is the fog light which you may hardly need. bike specification says age is 16+ so as per Jetson not recommended for kids

Hey when you move the bike does it make any clicking sound and when you are using the power/throttle without pedaling is it suppose to make some sound because I bought two of these and I hear something when it goes. Thank you
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
I just grabbed one of ours and took it for a quick ride to verify my answer for you. The bike does make a clicking sound at the rear hub when the bike is moving forward but is silent when backing up. This is a sound we also get when moving our regular bikes so I'm sure this normal operation in that rear hub. The bike doesn't really make any sound when accelerating other than a whirring sound that comes from the tires on the pavement, it's totally quiet on our grass. Hope that answers your questions, thanks for stopping by!

Around Christmas time I checked around and didn't find the bike in any store near me. Has anyone recently been able to physically see one in-store? I'm a bit leery about ordering one online without getting to sit on it at least.

@D.C. - Our local CostCo sold out of the bikes in November here but they did have some back again a few weeks ago when we were there. I did check their website yesterday however and they weren't listed there. I think they may have sold out again. These bikes go really fast around here (no pun intended). Maybe your local CostCo could give you an idea of when they expect to get some in? Spring is coming so I would think it won't be long.

Hey D. C. - Just thought I'd let you know I looked on CostCo's site this morning and the Bolt Pro is listed for $299 again, although I don't know for how long. Here's a link: www.costco.com/jetson-bolt-pro-folding-electric-bike.product.100712067.html

Can you order a replacement battery and could you charge the bike while operating it with one of the portable charging battery units? Wired lights would be a great idea and a way to lock it so no one can take off with your bike under power. Awesome review and these are available in our Canadian Costco stores as well for about $389 cdn
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
@Sandra Renwick - Wow Sandra, thank you for the compliment and great questions! 1. There is a listing for a "Bolt" replacement battery on Jetson's website but it doesn't specify for the "pro" version so I'm not sure of the compatibility. Here is a link: ridejetson.com/collections/parts/products/bolt-electric-bike-battery Here is their product support page for the Bolt Pro as well: support.ridejetson.com/hc/en-us/sections/360010234912-Jetson-Bolt-Pro-Bike It would be best to contact them directly to find out which battery replacement you would need but it does appear you can buy parts for the bike. 2. Not sure about being able to hook up a portable power source to the bike to charge while it is in use. Also, not sure if it would charge while being used. I have a few flashlights that allow me to "charge" them while using but I can't say in regards to this bike. I guess if I were to be brutally honest I would say I don't believe this particular bike is designed to accommodate charge while in use so that may not make this a good choice for you if that's something you really need. 3. The front light is hard wired into the system, however the rear light is battery operated. I completely agree with you, I wish they were BOTH wired into the system so there were no batteries to replace and they could both be activated by pressing the button on the handlebars. 4. Our local CostCo sold out before Christmas but they are back again. They are $399 at our store. A super great deal IMHO. I hope some or all of this information will be helpful to you. I appreciate you stopping by!

@@javosgarage which Costco store are you seeing them in?

@Sandra Renwick - We were at a CostCo at Riverpoint, located in Sheridan, Colorado about 2 or 3 weeks ago when we saw them again. I just looked and CostCo doesn't have them listed on their website however so it's possible they've sold out again. This is such a great deal they go really fast.

@benjamin litvinyuk - Hi Benjamin. I picked ours up from the local Costco. They were also on their website but I just checked and they aren't listed there anymore. Jetson's website says they will be offering them through their website this fall so I would assume that would be there shortly. When Jetson begins to offer them on Amazon I will make sure to post a link in the description above. Thanks for stopping by!

@SandaBoxing - Thank you. I love my country and I'm proud to display our flag. I installed a tall flag pole in the back of my truck, any time we take the truck out our flag is flying. I installed a light back there too so I fly it at night as well, it actually looks pretty cool going down the road at night. Thank you for stopping by and taking a moment to leave me a comment - thank you.

@@javosgarage My city & state are full of dirtbags. I had a green miltary-ish cap with an American flag velcroed in the front and I got dirty looks often. First I didn't think nothing of it, but these scumbags would look up right toward my foreheads then give me the dirty look. It wasn't until I had my food tampered with that I realized it, but luckily I was standing right there waiting for it so they couldn't do much to it other than press down super hard on the sandwich & left a deep handprint. Somebody stole my cap too & prob. threw it away. I'm also not White neither.

what abt a weight of 230 lbs
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
@R T - Jetson specifies a weight limit of 260 lbs so 230 lbs should be fine. When I am going to ride the bike for a ways I just add a little more air in the tires and then take it back out for when the kids ride. I had a neighbor take it for a ride and he's about 210 lbs; the bike did just fine. Hope that helps you. Thanks for stopping by!

@fishinman69 - Unfortunately, no. One of the drawbacks of this bike. This is why it is not compatible with the Jetson App, too bad. However, to keep a bike like this at a price this competitive I'm sure some "options" had to be eliminated. I certainly would like to have had it on the bike but it is still a great bike. My boys are really enjoying it. Thanks for stopping by!

@Pedro Fernandez - Well Pedro, I would have to assume because they're so popular. For me, when we purchased our bike there were only a few videos and there wasn't a lot of detail about the features of the bike. Therefore, I thought it may beneficial for some viewers if I made a review with a bit more more detail along with some tests and honest feedback. Hope that answers your question. @@javosgarage Nothing wrong with everyone doing videos if they're happy with their purchases, on the other hand, the bike i got has zero videos or reviews from customers, perhaps they're not happy with their choice? I just find it strange that with so many affordable e bikes out there, this one seems to be the most reviewed.
