New laws for the road going into effect in 2024 in Illinois

Come New Year's Day in Illinois, new traffic laws will go into effect that could impact you every time you get into your car. CBS 2's Lauren Victory reports.

In MI it is now against the law to even touch your cell phone while druving, or even stopped at a light or stop sign. You have to pull over. You can be fined starting at a $100 and eventually loose your licence if caught to many times. I agree with the law but has someone who always has to readjust maps while driving because I miss a turn or something goes wrong it's a bit of a pain.

Its a pretextual stop. This means they were using the obstructed view statute as probable cause in order to stop you and then investigate other possible crimes you may or may not be committing. Activists have claimed that these kind of stops have been used on too many innocent minorities, though this is highly debatable, and each example needs to be under heavy scrutiny before being regarded as racial profiling. Pretextual stops were upheld by SCOTUS in Whren v. United States (1996). Their legality, efficiency, and role when it comes to racial profiling is up for debate.

Some car manufacturers have installed GPS tracking devices in their cars. It will make it easier for Law Enforcement to track the car before another crime is committed. Abortions in some states have been banned. Women are being charged a as criminal for having the proceout of state. Distracted driving causes to msny accidents. Agree no ,Zoom or Googlemeet meetings.while driving. Very wealthy would like to have their cars delivered Its s nice option. The owner can return their car for service via delivery too.
