Thank you for the useful review. Loving my Q343, i went hoodless and got the IDS grip + leica thumb grip. Cant wait to see your ELPRO 52 video. Cant find any sample pictures or reviews on it yet!

I like shutter release buttons, but it is very difficult to find any that do not have a large gap between the normal release and the button, but where the button screws down almost flush to the release with no or minimal gap. When I used buttons in the past, I found that it was not difficult to get straps etc. caught in the gap, especially if you use a camera bag.

@ Thank you for your videos. I’m hooked on Leica gear (the Q2 Monochrom was the gateway drug).
@frand6822Ай бұрын
Very useful video, as always... However, I returned the Q3 thumb grip because I disliked the "knurled" surface where your thumb rests. I have a Q3 (28mm) and also a Q2 Monochrom and use a far less expensive brand on each because I prefer the smooth surfaces. True, I don't have the proprietary back buttons that reside on the Leica brand grip, but the cutout on mine for the Q3 works just fine.They are made of brass and the price is right as they are one fifth the price of the Leica-branded thumb grips.

I understand those who find the square hood more aesthetically pleasing, but count me as team round. So much so, I replaced the square hoods for my Q2 and Q2mono with round ones years ago, and I would/will do the same for my future Q3 43 regardless of the filter issue. I am not a fan of soft release buttons, however. For me they feel reduce tactile response, but again, to each his/her own. Thank you for this, and I am intrigued to learn more about the "magnifying" accessory.

Hi Matt, good video. I have almost the same shutter release button, first thing I bought for the Q3. The only time I use a filter (6 stops) is in the summer when the sun shines and I want to shoot with a wide aperture. I do like your lens hood though, not bad at all. Okay let me share some shooting experience. Last Saturday I went to the dunes for my annual mushroom shooting. It was a nice sunny day so lots of reflections on the speckled hoods which made the use of a flash with snoot unnecessary . Tried normal shooting and macro and I have to say the macro images of the 43 are better than the normal 28. With a shallow DoF those red and white mushrooms are almost coming out of the screen. You never ever have to adjust the colour with the Leica sensors and that is so fine. People like the images so much. I also tested shooting B/W with the view finder in mono (jpgs are B/W) some old vintage equipment like type writers and cash registers from the 60's I first edit a couple of RAWs (colour of course) to B/W and did my Capture One adjustments to my liking Then I compare them to the B/W jpgs SOOC. Exactly the same, man those B/W jpg's are crazy good and near perfect. I think I am in the market for an external battery charger cause charging via the camera is not my thing. Next week I will visit my camera store , good excuse to talk to the guys there over a cup of coffee. Okay that was my input, thanks for sharing your thoughts Stay well and happy shooting my friend

Thanks for the video. I am always very much into original accessories, but for filters I use high-end third party and also my soft-release button on my M and Q3 is third party. Reasoning is, that the value add of original Leica is not really given and the prices are ridiculous.
@danielc39876Ай бұрын
Adding: The original Thumb-support is great! I love it, all third party are clearly subpar in comparison.

Got a nice square cap for my Q3 on amazon. It does not fit the Q3 43 though. Hoping they will make one that does fit because so much better than the stock round cap.

The Leica Thumb Grip covers the diopter adjustment knob.
@erikgrossmanАй бұрын
Kind of irrelevant as you set your diopter once and then never again.
@johnkasianowicz6536Ай бұрын
@ Actually, it’s not irrelevant if: 1) you let others use the camera (e.g., to take a photo of you, or if any family members or friends use your camera too) 2) you wear glasses, but sometimes take them off
@erikgrossmanАй бұрын
@ That’s a fair point. In this use case the Leica thumb support may not be for you. There is a grip with built in thumb support that you might want to look into. It’s made by Helium Design Labs. The product was only recently launched so you have to join the waitlist/preorder.
@johnkasianowicz6536Ай бұрын
@ I have the Helium3 handgrip on order and am looking forward to using it on my Q3 43 soon. I hope its built-in thumb grip feels good. I use the Leica thumb grip on my M11 and Thumbs Up thumb grips on my digital CL and M11 Monochrom cameras. The choice is dictated by which lenses I tend to use on each camera. I don’t yet use one in my M6 TTL (I tend to use a compact 35 mm lens on it).
@archbusАй бұрын
@@erikgrossman In many reviews I've watched, no one has mentioned the diopter when talking about the thumb grip. I had to check mine lol. obviously no one really uses it on a daily basis so I think your point is valid.

What’s best L Bracket for Q3 43
@erikgrossmanАй бұрын
I find the APO lens a little too sharp for portraits of anything other than young people. I keep a Tiffen Pro Mist 1/8 filter attached to Q3 43 instead of the Leica branded UV filter. The effect is subtle and I like it.

Love this Video. If you still have Leica Q3 28mm, Can you please do a Raw comparison video skin tone check for 43mm and 28mm? I have 28mm Q3 but what I noticed is when I shoot Raw it has a yellow skin tone cast vs Q3 43mm is closer to the Nikon Fuji RAW image color. Can you do Raw comparison video skin tone check for 43mm and 28mm? I know post-processing can fix this color tone issue but I am looking for direct Raw comparison. Before I invest in 43mm want to see Skin tone comparison. Hope you make comparison video for this. Looking forward to see it! It will help me decide before doing huge investment in Leica Q3 43. Thanks

I don’t understand why the round lens hood is ventilated. I understand need on M for viewfinder. I would like to see solid hood and pinch cap for that size to keep out dust. Don’t like reaching inside with 49s.

Why did Leica move from Canada to Germany?
@erikgrossmanАй бұрын
Leica (Leitz) was founded in Wetzlar, Germany and most its products were always made there. Leitz built a factory in Midland, Canada, a few years after the Second World War and was focused mostly (at the time) on making products for the US Military.
