Nice addition. I set up a similar system and kept a regular starting battery in the back with the motor which it charged with out issue and put the lithium up front for my lights radio etc. I charged with a solar panel and it worked well. If I had my boat moored, as you do, I would try a wind turbine charger. Solar works ok but does not get the deep charge. I think the turbine will do that. Lon wires lying around are a nuisance and it builds resistance also. Good luck.

I like your idea of using a wind turbine charger, especially if the boat is moored as mine is. It is something I had not thought about I will have to look into that.

@@Trojwaterman You see them on sailing boats. They are now in all sizes and prices are decent. More charging capacity than a panel.

I have seen their batteries and may go that route in the future, them seem like a decent budget battery. I would be interested in long term testing

I looked into these batteries before I went down this route and as you say they do seem like a good battery. They were originally called Ampere Time and have been around for sometime. We will install the battery and do some follow up videos to see how we get on with it.

Be interesting to see how it pans out. A great weight save, I got two 100ah lead batteries in the stern on mine a fair bit of weight on those

That's one thing I like to keep down on a small boat is the weight.

Your alternator should be around 20 amp to 25 amp which is plenty to recharge your battery while you are in motion but while you are sitting there fishing for a few hours you really should mount a 100w flexible solar panel & a Epever 12v 10 amp MPPT solar charge controller to the battery. With a good brand solar charger you can program the charge voltage & it will automatically switch off charging when the battery is full. You should be able to use the battery for all your needs.

I thought about having a solar panel that can charge the battery when we are not on the boat that maybe can be put away when using the boat. Permanent panels may get in the way.
@solarfunction184714 күн бұрын
@@Trojwaterman Well you can mount a thin flexible panel length ways at the bow in the middle or use a solid panel across the stern on frames up high.

If it were me, I think I would try to run on the Lithium only for a few trips, but be able to fall back on the Lead Acid battery if required, until you are happy with the Lithium only. Or rethink after time and decide which is best way to go.
@Trojwaterman14 күн бұрын
Having a lead battery back up to start is definitely a good way to go.

Interesting video Troy. Look forward to see how it goes during the season. It would be good to be able to use the battery to power everything, as others have said, with a Lead Acid backup until you are sorted. If you mount it under the seat, would you need to run a fairly heavy cable forward for the winch? No idea how much current the winch needs. Regards to all, Stay safe & well. 👍👍

Yes I would need to extend the cable. If I put the battery in the front then I would need to extend the cable from the engine> Its working out whats the best solution.

A good idea, have you found the water leek when you took the boat out of the water
@Trojwaterman15 күн бұрын
Pretty sure I know where it is but I have not done anything about it yet. I need it warm and dry to do a proper fix on it.

So troy do have alternator on board to keep battery changed or it battery charger plug in
@Trojwaterman15 күн бұрын
I have a stator in the outboard which goes to a regulator/Rectifier then to the battery.

There is a link in the description to their site. They have various 100ah batteries plus others with the up-to-date prices.

I would keep the old battery on board as i have been told the lithium can just go flat, hope thats jyst a rumour.
@Trojwaterman15 күн бұрын
If not charging the lithium will run at full power until it stops unlike a lead acid battery which slowly goes flat. But the lithium will run much longer. I will probably keep a small reserve battery onboard until I have tested it fully.
