Y’ALL, the Isamaya Lips (isamaya.com/products/cardinal) were announced right after I finished filming this and didn’t make it into the video. But lots of you have been asking for my hot take, so here it is, in three parts: 1. I feel like clutching one’s pearls is passé, I am not clutching my pearls over this 2. in fact, part of me actually wants it because I love sculptural things, I am a personal fan of…anatomy…AND the shade “vanity black shimmer” looks exactly like a balm version of the “black veil” lip gloss which was one of my favorite products of 2022 3. the price ($95) is unreasonable and when I saw it I soured on the entire project. I believe that the price will be off-putting to most consumers and sales of these lippies will be low, but my guess is that this product is designed to generate clicks, shares, site traffic, hype, etc RATHER THAN sales. Like…I’d venture that even if they lose money on the product, they will make that money back (and more) in brand growth as a result of all the pearl-clutching and eye-rolling. Of course my hot take is informed by my lackluster impressions of the original Isamaya makeup (here’s my review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hajTq5lue9aBpNk). The fact that the formulas flopped for me overall made me inclined to believe that the brand is mostly selling imagery and aesthetic ideas, not really trying to make and sell good makeup. And they keep doing things to reinforce that belief.
@SRoberts815 Жыл бұрын
I was really surprised to see that Jen from Fat Mascara is such a fan girl of the brand! I’m obviously not going to buy them, but I had a different reaction to the price. Somehow the ludicrous price seems to be saying “wink wink you’re not really going to buy this, let’s just all appreciate this intellectually.” But tbh I’m probably giving the brand too much credit.
@wildlyamy Жыл бұрын
I agree, I like the packaging and thought the same about the products being similar. The price is so ridiculous, even factoring in the donation to Planned Parenthood and the sculpture of it all. It actually kind of makes me sad, because I would have bought this in a heartbeat at a more reasonable price point.
@profmom1469 Жыл бұрын
I’m clutching my pearls! They are tacky and gross in my opinion. Is their target consumer a high schooler? So juvenile. But, yes, I agree that they’re designed to grab attention, not actually generate sales at that price point.

Urban Decay used to have a mascara reviver that was sooo underrated. The formula was clear, and u would wait a few seconds after applying it over old mascara and it would soften it make it glossy and length. And putting more mascara on top of it gave even more volume. I am curious if MAC’s version would do the same 🤔

You get actual reward money back at Ulta that can be used towards your purchases instead of waiting until you amass 500 points at Sephora for $10 or a free (crappy) sample. Ulta also gives 2x and 3x points certain times so the money can pile up quickly. I hope what they offer for each brand is robust!

I don’t know exactly what it is, but multiple colors in one pan like that Bobbi Brown blush makes me anxious. I feel similarly anxious at the idea of actually using those beautiful Pat McGrath duo blushes. I have an actual visceral, negative physical response to it! But I’m very interested in the description of the finish of a powder blush as glossy-can’t wait to watch reviews and see if it’s really different than any other shimmery powder blush.

I agree with your last hot take about Dior and ND elevating Ulta. I find it especially interesting as it contrasts with my feeling about Sephora in Kohl's. I don't understand that combination and feel like it cheapens Sephora. I ordered a Lancôme foundation from Sephora through Kohl's website during the holiday sales and received an expired foundation. They offered replacement or refund and I didn't want to hassle with getting another bottle of the same expired batch so I took the refund. The experience soured my already skeptical outlook on the combo as it seemed like they're using Kohl's to offload old stock.
@RayneNaegwyn Жыл бұрын
Hannah, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your thorough reviews, where you've actually played for a product long enough to see how it works for you, how it sits on your skin. I especially love how you look for color nuances in both pan and how they wear on the skin. Thank you so much for not being the overbuying reviewer who just tries the thing on and says "I love it!". can't even tell you how many times I bought things, used them for a long time and disliked how they looked in the end. The best example of that is Viseart dark edit. There is that beautiful green (and I looove green) but on the eyes it just looks so grey. That was the most disappointing thing about the palette to me (no one ever brings up such things in reviews). Another thing that annoys me about a lot of reviewers is that they rush the consumers to go buy something even though the product will be there for a long time (obviously if it's not limited edition). I loooove using up my makeup and only then go buy either a replacement or something new. Thank you again, please never budge with the "it's a trend right now so I must buy this quickly while it's relevant." Beautiful products will ALWAYS be timeless. There's a reason why so many brands have products for decades and they are STILL highly popular!

It was refreshing to see you talk about these things, being able to see that you're excited about them but watching you actively talk yourself out of that purchase. It's so helpful to see new releases anti hauled with more thought given than "I already have a ton of blushes I don't need this, but I might review it" the way you talk about these things and refrence your own collection or things you've tried before is a god send. My thought, as someone living outside the US, with regards to liquid lipsticks, can be summed up in one word, masks. I don’t know if that’s what brands are thinking, but some of them are quite significant in the Asian market, like Mac.

I honestly wondered along those lines myself; glossy stuff was coming into style while most were still masking at least some of the time, so maybe people got over it more quickly than the typical trend cycles because it was messy for everyday?

We’re similar skintones (i’m maybe a little more cool toned, my skin sometimes is literally grey blue). Recently for fun I tried out the Rom&nd dewy ful water tint in the shade 10 murmur pink and omg… I really would love to see u try it. It’s terrifying swatched and in the tube, it’s literally a cold neon pink, but it works SO WELL!!! All of my previous lips similar to you are pretty desaturated, but it just works somehow. Its quickly become one of my top lip formulas too, I wear it as a dewy blush as well pretty much every day. Would love to see u try the same formula, especially bc kbeauty tends to run pretty cool toned and taupey

on the lash dry shampoo: this sounds like canmake's quick lash curler line, which seems to be incredibly popular in japan based on the number of variants released & how frequently i see it on japanese social media. i picked up the ER (easy removal) version recently & while i haven't tried using it as a curl reviver yet, as a primer it consistently creates the best lashes i have ever achieved. on blush: have you seen the wakemake mix blurring volume blush in "soft mute"? it's a very pleasant looking purple-beige gradient. i have a contour from this same line which i adore so i've been eyeing the blush for a while.

About Ulta -- I thought they were owned by the investment group of the Wertheimer family, who owns some (?) of the rights to Chanel, at least in the US. Lancôme, Chanel, MAC, and hourglass are already at Ulta. Additionally Fenty beauty, while not a prestige brand, is also at Ulta now as well. With the addition of Dior and ND, it feels a little bit like Ulta has come for Sephora’s crown. What would I want at Sephora that I couldn’t get at Ulta? Plus Ulta has a much better range of drugstore like you mentioned, they’re got hair and brow salon, and their rewards program is better……. Funnily enough, I think it’s the fragrance selection that speaks to me more at Sephora than Ulta

it might be worth swatching in person, or watching Stacey Chen's video on the Charlotte Tilbury blushes before you decide to buy as she found that the pink pop shade was actually very peach in person and similar to Rare Beauty Bliss - and I feel like you don't gravitate toward peach. You might be better off getting the Pillowtalk shade because I think its not too pigmented and can be sheered out and you might like the colour more.
