Is or was their a residual resentment passed down through the generations? My grandpa and great grandfather, both were very anti Texan and Oklahoman. both very proud New Mexicans.

Historical resentments tend to be based on events from the past, so I would say yes.

I have anecdotal info only, but I’d say yes. I remember my mother telling me stories about a Texan family who moved to New Mexico, and their son was enrolled at Mountainair Elementary School (this would have been around 1939 or early 1940s). The Texan boy wasted no time telling his classmates how superior Texas was to New Mexico. For once, the Anglo and Spanish children were united-they all hated the new kid. One time in particular he said that Texans thought New Mexico was a dump. One witty student responded, “I guess you do. We sure get the trash from Texas.”
