I'm actually in the process of reading this exact (standard) omnibus right now. As a kid, I read the first few issues of the series but had to give it up because money was tight and I preferred other titles over NM back then. So far, I'm a few issues in and enjoying it. Almost like going back in time and getting a "do-over". The beauty is, it's like I'm reading it for the first time, so there is a sense of discovery mixed with nostalgia that makes it really fun. Great overview, Omar!

Perfect review on this Omni Omar! New Mutants mean as much to me as X-Factor and X-Men. It was my childhood middle school and teenage years. Bravo for Marvel to not piece meal this story and leave out other comic book threads. I remember how much the team jumped around from title to title and it really needs to all be here in order to read and enjoy it all. Perfect!!!!! I hope they continue with a second Omni.

Sienkiewicz's art is really interesting and even refreshing to look at. Kind of intentionally rough on the edges, but dramatic. I really like it. Honestly I am afraid of buying this. If I buy this, its only a matter of time before I am eyeing the Xmen Omnis... and then I will be needing a second job :)

Yeah bro...😆🤭👍. 150$ a pop. Peter David's Hulk omnibus 1 2 and 3. Several X-Men omnibuses. The John Byrne Fantastic Four Omnibus 1 and 2. Excalibur and now New Mutants.. Not cheap.. it's the only way I can reclaim the 80s Comics that I love.

Hey Omar you mentioned such great artists as Frank Miller, Paul Smith, Bob Mcleod, Brent Anderson, Bill Sienkiewicz & Steve Leialiha (who only did three issues of NM 32-34) but you left out a very important name, that of Sal Buscema. ( Who did issues 4-17) who in my opinion is one of Marvel's work horses. With great runs on Hulk, spectacular Spider-Man, Rom & many others. Not trying to bust your ⚾'s. Just saying he is one of the greats in my opinion. Overall like always good video man keep up the good work.

Interesting that New Mutants #21 was your first issue, since it was mine too! Did you read it as a kid translated into Spanish? Because it was one of the few (perhaps even the only) Sienkiewicz issue published in Sweden translated into Swedish, so I was thinking maybe that issue was some kind of "sample" issue Marvel distributed to the companies that held the different international publishing licenses.

Wow this is a big one. Congrats to Marvel for getting to this stage. Big day for X collected editions. Thanks for keeping it honest Omar. The volume placement is concerning! (my OCD is going wild at the thought of this being a shift in design). Otherwise, this book looks stunning, and the dustjacket design(s) otherwise look awesome. Its a tough choice now between the spine design and the cover design. I really wanted the DM cover but that variant spine looks hot.

Marvel could have went with three covers for this omnibus. I would have used the magazine size issue # 1 for a third cover. However I still would have picked the cover that I have. Gotta wait for that UXM Vol 3 reprint before I dive into this one. Maybe I’ve just had bad luck, but this Omni and my UXM Vol 2 (reprint) have very little lift with the eye. I know how to stretch omnis, but these 2 seem to have spines that want to stay very flat 🤨

Hold up, isn’t Rachel’s witnessing of Xavier’s death a continuity error if she is from the Days of Future past story because we know that in UXM 141 that Xavier and Moira are killed by Mystique’s brotherhood when Robert Kelly is assassinated in Washington. Xavier couldn’t have been gunned down in Westchester unless Rachel comes from an even different timeline that is not the one seen in UXM 141 & 142.

By the way, I just picked this book up this week and have never read it before. But wow am I loving it. It is so good. Some of the best C-Men stories I’ve ever read. There’s a reason why Chris Claremont is considered such an amazing X-Men author. Because of stories like these. It’s a brilliant balance between characterization and plot. I’m so glad I decided to pick this up as I initially had no interest in it. I don’t know why. I guess I just didn’t think it was an integral part to X-Men history I’m just trying to be very discriminating on what I decide to buy these days. And I’ve never been a fan of Bill Sienkiewicz. But I do like his art in this book. It really fits the story. In fact I think his issues have my favourite art in the book. And Bob McLeod’s work is amazing too. Great book. I guess now I’ve got to decide if I want to pick up Excalibur next.

I’m not a fan of the name New Mutants either so I call them by the logical inevitable name of the New X-Men. Consider how well this book would have sold with that title. I mean, that’s pretty much what this book is. That graphic novel #4 follows the same story framing as Giant Sized X-Men. That’s what they are. The New X-Men.
