The fact that the PW is now available as an add-on package on trims as low as the Tradesman is amazing. You don't see the ZR2 or ZR2 Bison as a package on W/T, nor Raptor as a package on XL. If nothing else, RAM deserves credit for that move.
@WilliamStewart15 жыл бұрын
It's to appeal to governments which are big buyers of the PW's. All the forestry guys around me have them, I'm starting to see the MNR and even police buy them now too.

The ZR2 isn’t that much though specially after discounts. That’s basically what a Raptor is, a heavily customized XL. The extra $20,000 is with all the options dealerships order them with.

Were you born yesterday or something? LMAO. The Power Wagon has been offered as package for the Tradesman 2500 trucks since 2012 when the early versions still used 4.56 ratio and 5.7L HEMI rated at 383 horses. It's the incognito Power Wagon that the US government has been using and they have been customers since the truck was originally introduced in 2005, historically the US Gov't used different versions of the truck since 1946 and it's ancestor the WC-series trucks provided transportation needs for the GIs during World War 2.

So 60% of 395 is 237hp and 98% of 305 is 299hp those are top Of head numbers but should be close. Not to mention the v6 should be lighter and more gears allows the engine to stay in an optimal range. @@rmkscrambler Incorrect. Performance times care luttke about efficiency; what you are talking about is efficiency in a given 1:1 gear or overdrive. As you're drag racing, what is impirtant is a couple of things with the transmission, GIVEN an equal or very similar rear end diff ratio: how low first gear is, what the ratio spread is among the next set of gears, and how fast the transmission switches gears. This is also given equally skilled drivers with comparable 60 ft times too. There are a LOT of factors that determine the winner in a drag race

If only the Power Wagon came with the Cummins....
@andrewrife62535 жыл бұрын
It is a shame but I see why. The weight and size of the Cummins limits axle travel and flexibility due to spring rates and engine size, and the intercooler would force the relocation/removal of the winch. I think ram should make a diesel offroad package that is Similar to the power wagon but maybe toned down on offroad suspension to keep towing and payload (Ford is doing that with the tremor package). It would still be hugely capable but maybe call it the "work wagon" and make it a package for diesel 2500 and 3500 trucks. (Same tires, lift, skid plates, and lockers but give higher towing and payload) unfortunately their would have to be compromises made
@zxej68794 жыл бұрын
The Cummins that does come in a 2500 4wd. Needs to have 4.10 gears for 35" tires, 4.56 gears for 37's. The stock 3.42 ratio will pull great. But the throttle sensitivity is poor at low speed. 3.73 rato would be okay with 33" tires. If the transfer case had a 4.1 low range. Rock crawling could work with the taller 3.42 gears. My wife has a 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab Tradesman 4wd 6.7L Cummins 3.42 ratio. The payload is 2500 lbs, tow rating of 17,000 lbs. The Cummins is a beast. I have a modified 2016 Ram Quadcab Tradesman 4wd 3.0 Ecodiesel 3.92 ratio. It has a 4" lift, and is nicer to go Overlanding in. A Power Wagon with the Ecodiesel would surprise people. But the 4.1 low range from the Jeep Rubicon would be highly desireable. The weak link of my 1500 is the frony control arms. I have replaced the uppers, with Ready Lift pieces. And will soon replace the lowers with Mevotech TTX units. Use Bilstein 5100 shocks set at the max on the front.

My big thing with the power wagon towing numbers is three-part... 1. How much more confidence can you have towing the maximum weight with each? Being a heavy duty, the power wagon must stop better and sway less (at least hypothetically). 2. Like a 2.5 ton military truck (5 tons on road and 2.5 off road) how is the off road handling with a full payload/trailer? With a lot of off road trailers coming to market it has to be said that they can make a huge impact. 3. Has anyone looked up what 10000lbs looks like on a trailer? I know it's not the 30000lbs a 3500 diesel can tow but most of your tandem axle campers, livestock, and car trailers (most twin axle, bumper-hitch trailers with single wheels) will be pulled by the power wagon. I know there's an argument with both but the bed length and confidence of the power wagon due to being over-built for its ratings I still see a lot of utility. It's a 3/4 ton truck in all aspects but it can take that 3/4 tons with it to moab or just about any job site or campground. It does keep stuff In the bed while still towing a trailer too whereas the jeep may have a single axle overland trailer you sleep next to but cant haul much more in a Rubicon. The rebel seems more like a raptor fighter for going fast offroad or on really terrible roads that rallies would happen on (where independent front suspension really shines).

@@WilliamStewart1 IDK man, I love the Power Wagon in general well its a love hate thing. I love it just because of it's burliness and it has that commanding presence, the 6.4 HEMI is by far the best engine I've driven given I've spent time testing every truck I can get my hands on before I settled with a 3/4-ton pickup. I hate it that Ram didn't put a nice exhaust note for this particular model but well marketing it as such it's still a work truck after all the cool 4x4 hardware it packs. I thought of getting a 2019 TBH but it's just not worth trading a vehicle that basically has the same shape and only got fancier items, its a truck not a luxury car and I'd be goddamned the day it goes away with manual transfer case. I'm keeping my 2018 for sure since it's the last Ram HD to feature the traditional "big rig" styling. It actually would have been nice if Ram trucks started going with 8-speed when they did the 2014 update, oh I also hate that they went away with 4.56 ratio and went to 4.10s another thing that I want to upgrade down the road.

@hunterbrock23475 жыл бұрын
I am going to put out there that the results of the drag race had more to do with the different gear ratios more than the weight and power output. The Rebel with the 3: 90 something gearing intended more for normal daily driving where the Power Wagon probably has 4:10 or 4:56 gearing that's intended more for hauling. Also as far as the ground clearance goes, the Rebel had more but how much bigger could you go with the tires, even with additional lift before stuff starts breaking? The Power Wagon with big beefy solid axles is easier to apply a lift to and will do much better with larger tires, therefore I declare the Power Wagon has better ground clearance capability.

Another great video. Both the Rebel and the Power Wagon are excellent off road vehicles, but the Power Wagon being a 3/4 ton with solid Dana axles, two lockers, sway bar disconnect and the winch clinches it for me as a solid purchase.

The axles are AAM. Ram hasn't used Dana in years except on dullys.

My 2006 Chrysler Town and Country gets that gas mileage. Time for a trade-in. The Rebel is one heck of a truck! The only thing is lacks is the front locker, factory winch and the heavier axles.

The Heavy Duty truck is the 3500. The power Wagon would do just fine with the Ecodiesel. And maybe 4.56 gears to compliment 35" tires. The solid axles will last at least 5 replacements of the Rebel front control arms.

Fun video guys! My 18 Power Wagon has been my most favorite truck I’ve ever owned. I daily drive it, travel in it, tow with it and haul with it. It’s a beast and does everything well. Love the newest PW but I’m waiting for the PW in the next generation build. Interestingly my “old” 18 Power Wagon gets identical hwy MPG. But I do run 89 octane with non-ethanol gas. I’m sure that is why. I’d like to see how the 6.4 with 8spd does with 89 non ethanol. 👍 Just to add, towing and hauling is a non issue with mine. Zero problemo. But I did add Airlift bags in Daystar cradles with an Airlift compressor. With that Towing is a breeze and no sacrifice on off road capabilities. I have also been smart about my mods. I don’t add unnecessary weight and I’ve actually saved around 150lbs with an AFE exhaust and going with a synthetic cable. That just adds back in to my payload capacity. 👍

The new Power Wagon looks great and if you're going for off-road and money doesn't really matter, the Power Wagon is the way to go... for the most part. Love the Rebel for day to day driving though.

5:25 yea those cameras are nice but if you know your truck and can see stuff before going over the hill it's not needed, I have a ram myself but it's an 01 318 no where near this new, these new trucks are nice and all but I'd rather have a truck even older than what I have now so there wouldn't be all these electrical problems to deal with

No excuse in not offering a diesel PW. There is a Cummins ISB4.5 TD 4cyl, which is a 6.7 minus 2cyl. (Thus more room upfront for a winch). A Seriously strong engine that can easily get 300hp/600lbFt/25mpg plus an exhaust brake. The lumpy 4cyl torque would be Great coupled with Dual transfers like it's distant cousin the Iveco Daily 4x4. Offer it in tradesman trim with a Manual only. The only tradeoff will lack of that V8 sound and the 4.5 is still much heavier than the Hemi.

Ram needs to bump up the power of the power wagon to at least 450hp to do justice to that 6.4L

Chris McLaughlin I never understood why they still only put 33”s on the power wagon. I’ve seen people fitting 37”s on those with just a leveling kit, so I feel like they should be able to fit 35”s from the factory.
@Michael_ryan915 жыл бұрын
@@splewy its gotta be just saving money and fuel economy. 35s from the factory would be perfect. I feel the 33s actually look small on that truck.

@@splewy It makes the center of gravity too high for the Gov. safety sally.
@splewy5 жыл бұрын
@@williamfrancis402 I'm pretty sure it's not that. Safety requirements for 3/4 ton trucks are pretty minimal. The government considers anything over 8400lb GVWR to be a commercial vehicle. There's plenty of commercial vehicles that have a way higher COG than the Power Wagon. I believe the issue of cost that someone else brought up is the best explanation. A set of 35" 315/70-17s cost a few hundred bucks more than some 33" 285/70-17s.

well that explains part of your poor MPG ... I have a 2019 RAM Bighorn / North Crewcab 4x4 with non-etorque 5.7L and 3.21 gears... noticed in the MPG segment the Rebel was turning 1900-2000 at 70MPH ... mine with 3.21 spins about 1600-1700 at indicated 70mpg ... my past EcoDiesel which did have 3.92 gears did seem to take a toll on the MPG
@DragonKnightX125 жыл бұрын
It's basically MPG or Power for acceleration and towing.

Everyone showing all the love to the power wagon but the rebel is my choice not only is it way more refined it also looks better in my opinion and the size is just right that 2500 is a but to much. Considering that the 2500 is meant for towing it's pretty surprising that the revel tows more and not to mention the rebel is over 1500 pounds lighter and has a better on road feel.

After living with and offroading a lifted 2019 RAM 1500 now for a few months, I believe they really need a front solid axle version of the 1500. I'd snatch that up in a second. I haven't run into a trail too skinny for me yet, but I've had some tight squeezes where I'm wondering if the powerwagon could have made it through.

The 0-60 times of these trucks are really impressive when you compare them to the dark days of horsepower , the 1980 ford mustang 0-60 was 10.8 and the 1982 corvette was 9.1 . Oh how times have changed .
@billjamison28772 жыл бұрын
If you want better mileage and overall performance, use the 91 octane not the 87. I've noticed in my Rebel that if I use 89 or 91 octane over the 87, mileage is better. It might be different for other people but this has been my experience using higher octane fuel. This is by no means scientific, just what I observed.

When doing the mileage test, traffic/windage is a significant factor you are not taking into account. Doing this test at night when there is little/no traffic would give a much more accurate result.
