Range Rovers don’t come around very often. Over the car's 50-year lifespan, this new model is just the fifth iteration of the iconic 4x4. The original Range Rover was conceived as the ultimate lifestyle SUV; luxury came later. The latest version is tasked with reinventing the genre yet again, with luxury, technology and design to the fore. There'll be two plug-in hybrid versions on offer - both using a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine with up to 503bhp available. Mild-hybrid tech will also be an option with a pair of 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesels and a petrol version as well. Top of the range will be a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 petrol pumping out 523bhp. From 2024 the range will include a fully-electric model. Steve Fowler delves into the design, interior, technology and driving experience of the all-new Range Rover in this first drive review.

Overall the design is absolutely stunning. There’s nothing on the road that looks as good. Interesting mention about the mirrors and wind noise. I’m a Mercedes technician and the new GLS/GLE has an issue with whistling coming from the outside mirrors and an updated part was released for it. Sorta helped lol.

Excellent question, I want to know also. I've got a Range Rover Autobiography but the ride is a little rough, the car I drove before, a 2014 Bentley Flying Spur W12, had much older technology but had a lot more power, materials quality, and was also a lot smoother and more comfortable and quieter...so if this all new one has fixed all issues with tech and ride quality (and hopefully reliability) then its obviously a total win. Also the Bentley was a lot more reliable with much fewer problems so hopefully they can also improve those areas too..
@steviefowler
@steviefowler 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnmuzic3475 I wouldn't say the ride is super smooth - more communicative and with good body control. You feel what the state of the road surface is, but it's never uncomfortable. Pretty amazing on the 23-inch wheels of the car I drove.

@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnmuzic3475 How do you expect an SUV to ever surpass cars in comfort? They literally are cars with added compromises. They have higher unsprung weight. They have inferior suspension geometry and many compromises to allow for the longer suspension travel. That also gives structural compromises meaning either extra strengthening needed = more mass, or they don't add mass which will then result in more flex where you don't want it, and that in turn causes poorer precision and resonances. They have higher centre of gravity, which then requires lots of compromises to the suspension geometry, components and setup. They have to sacrifice optimum suspension to combat the car's body movements. And so and and so forth. SUVs are inferior to cars in order to tackle off-road conditions. If you don't need to tackle off-road conditions you can get a car far better optimised for on-road use. I would expect a C-Class Mercedes with the top spec air suspension and other goodies to be far more comfortable than any Land Rover product. Easily. I doubt it'll be much louder either, if you select the acoustic comfort package. And other more expensive cars from a variety of manufacturers are no doubt similarly superior to the Land Rover products as they don't have to compromise. But whatever you do I wouldn't look to VW Group products like Bentley for any reason...

I'd get a DBX, Levante, GLE/S, X5/7, etc. before a Range Rover. They don't have such great luxury and toys, not the best seating position, poor interior space-to-exterior size ratio, and above they've had horrendous reliability throughout their whole history so there's little reason to expect that to have changed. But above all the claim was that it would be the world's best luxury car...well, no SUV can be anywhere near the best luxury car due to all the compromises they bring to the table, making them worse cars. I'd never buy an SUV to begin with...cars are far superior when using them on-road.

I know you are English and find it your duty to support the UK car industry but there is no need to lie anymore. Land Rover is owned by TATA and Indian firm. Rolls Royce is owned by BMW. Bentley is owned by Volkswagen. The vehicle is a looker but its reliability makes it undesirable; I doubt this model will be more reliable with the added technology. I wish those that buy it great patience because they will need as they fight all the problems with the dealers who many times try and blame the owner for many of the defaults trying to squeeze an extra buck or two out of the owners. This time around I will truly ‘enjoy’ this vehicle from a distance admiring owners and their patience. I ran out of patience and time for this automotive firm a long time ago.

I've spoken at length to Land Rover about reliability. One of the biggest issues is where and how a car is built - the Defender, built in a brand new factory in Slovakia, is showing signs of reversing LR's reliability trend. The RR's all-new electrical architecture gives me confidence, but not as much as the investment that's been put into the Solihull factory to build the car - it's pretty much a new factory inside and old factory and should improve things. It better had - it couldn't get much worse! As for 'fawning', I can only tell it how it is.

@@steviefowler Thanks for the reply (did not expect that) and for taking the criticism (and I stand by it) so well - appreciated. I'm glad to hear you spoke to RR. It would have been useful if you spoke, at all, about their reliability record and how they claim to have addressed it in the video. That would do something to adequately inform potential buyers of the what they might be getting into - otherwise this is just another advert. All I learnt from this video is that the car is expensive and that you like it.

The slab constituting the rear reminds me of a hearse. I think the side view of the rear half is ugly, a brick if not a hearse. Diesel in 2022!?!? What's the CO2 emission. Who is going to take this expensive monster cross-country? How about inner city parking - two spaces required? A good car to pop down to the supermarket? The cramped rear leg room was presumably because 7 seats were down. If I remember correctly, Range Rovers are amongst the most unreliable cars on UK roads according to Which?, the Consumer Association.

Please, car journalists, could you get car manufacturers to answer the question everybody is totally baffled with: Why on earth do they put touch controls onto cars (like on the steering wheel), even very expensive ones where surely they don't have to be penny-pinching that badly?? I mean it is absolutely certain that they are massively inferior to proper buttons, switches and selector wheels. There is no doubt that touch controls are BY FAR inferior and for most are actually frustratingly bad. So why on earth do they use them? Is it just that over time some totally incompetent, out-of-touch, non-engineer managers who are mostly only qualified in office politics, used their elbows and talent of bullshitting to rise up the ranks?

I hope it's going to be more reliable than the outgoing one but I doubt it.

They have added more tech, what do you think?

Land Rovers/Range Rovers have always been unreliable but the modern models have been built a lot better and are a lot more reliable but as someone said in a comment before, more tech added and more things to go wrong. Reliability has improved but if something does go wrong then it’s an absolute fortune to fix if the warranty has expired.

@@cm4072 fair play anyway for having an SVR. They sound amazing and they move extremely well considering the weight. I rented one not long ago and it was a great experience
