I think Roseanne likes to be a contrarian. She was a socialist when capitalism and republican values were big, and her blue collar show with characters more people related to than the likes of the Cosby Show went against the grain of the glossier, aspirational shows that dominated tv at the time. Now that liberal socialism has become the dominant force in media and tv, she sees the contradictions and hypocrisy of it. But Trump is such a moron that there was no justifying her support for him, but i honestly think she does and says things to be controversial for the sake of it

Benedict Arnold was an amateur compared to Trump. Arnold Schwarzenegger made a KZbin clip about what the Nazis' lives were like after Hitler. "Filled w/shrapnel & guilt", he said. He knows. He was there. That's what the Republicans have to look forward to after Trump's gone. It's why they're so desperate to freak out, deflect, & project to postpone that as much as they can. What's the plan, people? Trump got 74m votes in 2020. Two months ago, 70% of still tell, repeat, & claim to believe the lie that the election was stolen. Some of them are dumb enough to believe it & some are racist enough to lie about it. But thousands of them tried to take the country at gunpoint. So I ask, what's the plan? Because we can't continue forever w/over 51m voters saying the election was rigged. Marjorie Taylor-Greene wants to split America in two by red states and blue states. "We're done." Most of Texas agrees with her, including 59% of its Democrats, over 3m voters. And if Texas, the most socially conservative state w/nearly 30m people, leaves the United States, the other 49 will suddenly shift to the left. I wouldn't mind the country splitting up. Right now we're locked into a miserable union. Countries break up and are sometimes happier apart. Czechoslovakia split into two countries, Yugoslavia split up into six, and the USSR split up into fifteen. It doesn't always get violent. But it says something about the sad state of America that the best we can hope for is for 332m people to do an Eric Cartman impression ("screw you guys, I'm going home") and go home without shooting people. Maher's right when he says that unlike the America of the 1860s, the country wouldn't split neatly into contiguous land masses, not with Democrats running prosperous cities and Republicans running nine of the ten states with the highest poverty rates. (New Mexico's the exception.) Yeah, Maher talks a lot about the two sides of the political divide coming together because he really wants that to happen. So do I. But my fellow atheist will be the first to agree that just wanting something to be true or possible doesn't mean it is. It takes two sides to declare peace. Declaring war only takes one, like Hamas did against Israel. The Republicans declared theirs on January 6, 2021. There hasn't been peace since, and there wasn't peace for a long time before it. It hasn't been blood since then. Do we really want to wait until it gets bloody before we finally realize that no matter how much we want it to, this silly experimental government of ours isn't working? You don't believe me, that's fine. Do your own math. Show me that we have a way to get out of this part of our history without staying together and hating each other forever, or reenacting 1861 just like the Civil War reenactors have been fantasizing we would for years. But my math skills are very good, and I don't see any way. We're not willing to convene a new constitutional convention, like the right wants to do (but only to repeal the 14th amendment so they can "own people" just like they keep saying the want to do. "Own the libs", the Republicans say, as if they're smart enough to know who the libs are, and care enough to simply not go back to black slavery, like they wanted to do in the Civil War. 22% of America is straight, white, and male, and most of that group (unlike me) makes life miserable for the other 78%. The fighting isn't solving anything. Talking isn't solving anything. Taylor-Greene's right. We are done. Not by red states and blue states, but done with working together. Only one side knows how or is interested.😥

Just now saw this. Roseanne was my friend in Denver in the 80s. She would do open mike nights and I was often, along with her sister Geraldine, 1/2 of her 2 person fan club. I was with her the first time she got paid for her work.... $15 for doing her gig at the Comedy Works (if I remember correctly,). One time at Marylins place (The Mercury Cafe?) she and my cousin Mark cracked up the house with their 'slam dancing' to a really horrible punk rock duo on open mike Wed. She was interesting and fun. Many nights we sat at Muddy's on upper 15th street jamming on ideas for her act. I really feel for her these days. Like many of us, Roseanne has had mental health issues. Not so unusual and maybe manageable if you aren't under a public microscope 24/7. The Roseanne I remember was serious, focused, of course very funny, generous, and cared about her kids. She definitely would not have supported the guy in the WH today. And I can't believe her misguided 'tweet' about Valerie Jarret was rooted in racism. How many of us have never written something on social media that we regretted upon reading it later? I wish her well in the future.

I've lived in Canada, the UK and Australia, and each place meds are 10x cheaper, and all emergency medical services are free. Making people pay money for a trip to the hospital seems like a very cruel thing to do from an outside observer. Whenever I speak with Americans they just say that the USA is special, public health care wouldn't work, even though it's been shown to work in every other major country in the world. It seems like the big pharma lobbying has convinced Americans that free healthcare is a horrible thing that will never work, and that is the really sad part.

Unfortunately, Bill is being a simpleton, and, for whatever reason, is pretending not to understand satire again.(Hopefully he's been pretending). The premise for his argument is flawed. He says, "You're not Archie Bunker, you're Bernie Sanders" which illustrates a complete misunderstanding of "All in the Family" and "Roseanne". She IS being Carrol O' Connor. Which, by using his last name, is paying homage to the man who played Archie Bunker. A liberal satirizing a low income and poorly educated conservative for the purposes of changing the attitudes of that demographic, as well as gaining a better understanding for that demographic. Roseanne was pretty far gone when ABC went ahead with the reboot. I’m not sure what makes someone buy in to conspiracy theories (probably a bit of confirmation bias and a healthy diet of views served up by the echo chamber of whatever nuttiness you’re into), but she definitely didn’t suddenly slip and tweeted something silly all of a sudden. Sort of puts ABC dropping her as sanctimoniously as they did in an odd light. As for Maher’s take? I think it holds up pretty well. One can be thankful for past choices of a friend while critiquing current ones, no?

I've always admired Roseanne's ability to challenge corporate culture and represent blue collar people.
