I watch every week and the climax of NEW RULES is the best part of every episode. I often watch this final segment more than once and even revisit them years later. This particular point is one of the best I’ve ever watched. You’ve hit on something noteworthy in American culture. While it is mostly entertaining for its oddity, your point about the ACLU implicitly changing its mission is a very important one. Same issue with the British, Australian, and New Zealand labour parties. They once stood for the working class and even created national health service (universal socialised healthcare) paid completely through taxes. Now, they're neoliberal and more about identity and less about the housing crisis where no one can afford to buy a home anymore. A real labour party would have nationalised housing and made it available to all free based on number of dependents, paid through taxation. And just so you know, New Zealand is run by a majority labour govt under Jacinda ardern. She won't touch the housing crisis, she just wriggles out of the questions like a typical 21st century politician. Meanwhile homes in new Zealand are typically $1.5 million anywhere there is a city nearby for, you know, a job.

They might have had different cultural understandings of it, but the phenomenon itself is evidently universal. Most trans people experience physiological distress/pain about their physical sex traits, and transition to another gender to alleviate that. The opposite would happen to normal cis people; if they had become confused about themselves and tried hormones they’d get real uncomfortable real quick and stop before any lasting effects happened. There is no risk of boys mistakenly becoming girls, because unlike a trans girl a boy will cling onto being a boy - if intersex boys are any indication, their masculinity will shine through even if their penises were cut off at birth and they were raised as girls. They _will_ know who they are, just as we do. It does nothing for nobody to say that trans women “aren’t real women” because by every meaningful trait that can define gender (anatomy, hormones, cultural norms, legal status) we are functionally identical to cis women. It really mean, in many circles that they wanted to defund the overmilitarization of the police and reform how funding is used in polcing. By providing more training for mental health awareness, and sending out social workers on a lot of these calls.. isntead of just dumping old Military equipment onto police forces and training them to shoot first and ask questions later... Whoever came up with "defund the police" didn't think that all the way through and I know that yes, some police depts may have literally been defunded... but I think that we do need to rationally redo how policing is done in communities.. Legalize weed, more funding for substance abuse treatment, more mental health training and more funding for mental health including beds..... on and on.. instead of "here, is all your swat team equipment.. now go and deal with that mentally ill black man who has substance abuse issues and shoot them in their car.... cause they are "Bad" and "dangerous'..

As an Eagle Scout, I really have doubts about sending my son into Boy Scouts now. Boy Scouts was a great venue for me to learn how to be... a boy. A courteous, kind, thrifty, trustworthy and respectful boy (now a man kindof). All I can say is if there are girls in Boy Scouts, it's going to be a competition to impress the girls. A distraction. There are people who would say, "well boys need to learn how to not be distracted by girls", but that simply will not happen. Sometimes it's ok to separate genders, and sometimes it's necessary and good. I'm a moderate and definitely lean left on a lot of topics, but seriously some of these things are extremely obnoxious.

As a guy who came here as an immigrant and never watched American TV back in the older days, I always thought TLC stood for The Ladies' Channel... I'm dead serious!!! Cause almost every show seemed like it was tailored to attract women in their 30s or 40s or 50s or beyond. I've never actually watched TLC but other channels like USA run commercials for TLC shows.

Being an Eagle scout and someone whose life would be different if I hadn't done scouts as a kid, I've always hated the whole thing of letting girls into the Boy Scouts. There was already venturing scouts for co-ed adventures ages 14-21. People who are for girls in BSA always say, "Well the Girl Scouts suck and we wanna do boy-ish things." Then reform the Girl Scouts. Don't ruin a place where guys can be guys among guys. Women need their own spaces and so do men.

As someone with no real personal experience of the scouts, I was under the impression the justification of allowing girls into the Boy Scouts was that Boy Scout merit badges etc etc were more prestigious, so it was unfair to have 50% of kids unable to go for that stuff. Just allowing girls to join feels like a much faster solution to that problem than reforming the Girl Scouts to have honors that will be recognized as a equivalent. To me, this feels like an imperfect solution to an inequity that was built into the the Boy/Girl Scout system long ago.

Its refreshing to see that someone else feels the same way that I do on this subject. I was also molded by my time in scouting and bonding with boys my age. Now I fear for my son who will soon be old enough for cub scouts. I fear because already in my area there has been a girl who levied an accusation against a boy at camp. I don't need to expose my son to risks like that, regardless of how I loved my time in scouts. I mean...come on...anyone can see that taking mixed gender teens and putting them in the woods together will at some point lead to trouble.

We have an all-girl BSA troop here, it's been fantastic for both the girls and the community. Just because another "scout" organization exists doesn't mean that it's any good, and much of what BSA does isn't just "boy stuff"-- instilling moral values, learning valuable life skills, doing productive community projects, etc. There's no reason to oppose at least gender-specific troops (so guys can still be guys among guys). Why should the girls be forced into an organization that sells overpriced cookies instead?

As Neil Howe would say, we are currently in a fourth turning in the generational cycle (often characterized by institutions taking on new roles completely detached from the original reason and ethos of the institution)

I agree but point out its not as simple as a cycle creating weak people.. I’m a millennial and we get called weak simply cuz a bunch of clever asshole families remain on top and our system’s of exchange are highly susceptible to corruption.. How many generations since the Civil War? Grant was known as a very corrupt president and history buffs know America hasn’t changed much politically since then (if it ever has changed) They think we were soooo much cooler and more in control, better people, more righteous, etc in the past… Oversimplification! Poor people get poorer and the system keeps getting shitting and warring on. Then people want to point fingers at “weak men” WHO IS STRONG, The Fuck!? What is strength? The ideals we represent? The amount we train physically, mentally? Strength of character? I wouldnt dismiss an entire culture of people just because we had TV and games.. we also had Wikipedia and a huge distrust of government and big money corporations(indistinguishable in my eyes).. Parts of our US history gets swept under the rug but it’s all there if you look hard and talk to enough people. Our government turning on the people.. imminent domain destroying communities, workers beat or shot into submission… And we’re weak?? No.. the government is just strong and I’m not sure how we’ll get out of this mess without proving this old saying right, but I submit that theres more to it. ;)

I always ask people this one question when they ask whose side am I on, is it more important what someone claims they are or what someone's actions say they are?.

I've started watching videos from both Democrat and Republican sources a lot lately. It's funny how many similarities there are. Everyone is tired of the same stuff and complain about the same things, and then they both end by talking a bunch of sh$# about the other party.
