After waiting for over two years, I was finally able to order the new RYi150CVNM RYOBI 18V 150W Charger / Inverter. I ran a bunch of tests on it. It is still a Modified Sine Wave inverter. It now has a 30W USB-C PD port that can be used to charge it. This allows you to charge it in your car or with a Solar Panel! Unfortunately it does not have Pass-Thru charging. The AC/DC turn off when you charge it :-(
Things I used:
* RYOBI RYi150CVNM ( www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-150... )
* Megasolar 100W Portable solar panel ( amzn.to/3XaZpgC )
* USB-C Cigarette Socket Adapter ( amzn.to/3Apqp2i )
* USB-C Decoy ( amzn.to/3OiD0dj )
* 9ah Battery ( amzn.to/32ypiQ0 )
* USB Tester ( amzn.to/3TNtLDd )
* Load Tester ( amzn.to/3EDERGv )
* Oscilloscope ( amzn.to/3EkNGnh )
* Kill A Watt Meter ( amzn.to/3hP8dIY )

I bought this recently during a 50% and free shipping sale from Direct Tools Outlet. I'm so glad I got it. Plug and play. Instant green charging light when hooked up to the USB-C port of my 100w Ericsity portable solar panel. Today I simultaneously charged my GoLabs R300 power station from that panel. It's perfect because the GoLabs maximum input is 60w. Both finished within 4 hours or so. I think this is just the beginning of solar availability from Ryobi. I expect other products are in planning and development phase, largely due to show-how from channels like this one.

@@SerendipitySue Agreed, That's hopefully their next step, if for example they come up with a solar capable 40v charger inverter. BTW, the specs you were looking for are on the bottom of the charger inverter, where the battery clicks in. Very small print. Not visible when the battery is connected.

About time they finally released this! I got mine a few weeks ago and did some testing. I recommend the Kohree 100w panel it has a 40w USBC output. They are on sale for $100 from time to time on Amazon. Those Ryobi panels are under powered and will be overpriced for sure. I did notice that mine doesn't click all the way down most of the time I loaded it on a battery, still makes connection- just a slight fit issue on the older batterys not so much with the newer design battery. If Ryobi was to make a new version with a Pure signwave AC inverter, pass thru charging and on/off switchs for the AC/DC it would sell close to $200. As usual excellent video Chris.

Great review with real specs and testing! I am disappointed that the A/C port doesn't have a switch (like Milwuakee top off). Camping with kids, it could easily be left, or even if you charge a phone overnight, it will be leaking power for several hours after phone is charged.

Wow I'm very glad you mentioned the flashing red and green lights at the end of the video. Last week I gambled on Amazon and bought a Ryobi knockoff dual 40v charger for $21. The first day it worked fine, charging two 6ah with no problem. Input specs were very similar to my genuine Ryobi chargers. The next day I grabbed more batteries and received the flashing red and green lights. I was going to return the thing. But now I realize it was the same situation you described...it only happens when the batteries are already fully charged.

I use a power supply to power a LiPo charger or power supply that I use to charge Radio Control 6 cell LiPo batteries to 26.1V at 4.5A. Charger can use both AC and DC power. I'm wondering if I can use this 150W 18V inverter to use on my charger that outputs up to 10A at 26.1V to charge my batteries. I normally charge at about 4.5A normally. I realize the 18.5V of my ONE+ Ryobi battery will deplete itself charging a 26.1V LiPo at 5Ah. But I have 3 Ryobi 18V batteries.

Unrelated but I was wondering if it would be possible to run 2 40v batteries in parallel for tools like the snowblower that have 1 battery standby slot and 1 active slot. Running the 2 batteries in parallel would be amazing instead of having 1 just sitting there
@SerendipitySue
@SerendipitySue Жыл бұрын
you can run batteries in parallel, but you have to be very careful that the voltages are the same. I always use the same battery type and fully charge them before connecting them. I have several movies about making 18/40V battery adapters

Can you run a CPAP off of this? And if I understand it, there's no benefit to finding an adapter to plug the CPAP into the USB-C PD port. Normally you'd get more run time if you run it off DC but I think this unit will always have the parasitic loss from the AC inverter regardless if you are plugged into the AC port or not. Is this correct? I think my CPAP runs at about 25 watts when the heater/humidifier is turned off.
@SerendipitySue
@SerendipitySue Жыл бұрын
I have run my Phillips Dreamstation 2 off it with AC and a 9ah battery. I turn the humidifier off. RYOBI has announced a new 12V powerstation ( www.ryobitools.com/products/details/46396035370 ). That way you can run DC that should last longer.

Handy unit, but has the same issue as the 40v, you can just turn on the USB charger without having the inverter on at the same time, this causes it to drain the battery rapidly even if you just charging a phone or tablet, the USB-C charge input is a nice improvement all the others should have.

@@SerendipitySue That 18V ONE+ 1800-WATT power station is a beast! I didn't realize that I need so many batteries to run a hair dryer? I looked at your self-made charger project; And even that one used seven 4AH battery packs. Another beast. I was hoping a reasonably sized battery would run a hair dryer, but I guess that is not possible in 2024. Still I really like your videos. You explain things very carefully. Your reviews are thorough.

@@SerendipitySue I'm trying to understand how to match up devices with battery capacity? This is an unfamiliar subject matter. Do you have any recommendations on videos that explain this topic? Maybe the hair dryer is not a good example. When I look at an appliance or device, I look at the wattage of the device? Then I look at what power capacity of the battery charger? I don't expect you to explain it here. But I don't even know what keywords to use to do a search on this subject.
