New Stainless Muhle R41GS. Feather Blade, Berry Fields O’Blair Soap, Chubby 2 & Spanish Leather.
Trying out a new R41 in this shave. This is the stainless steel version of the R41 Grande brand new for 2021 to mark the 10th anniversary of the original R41. This new version is known as the R41GS. I got it on loan from my friend Ernie, who ordered it direct from Executive Shaving in the UK. German-made, the razor was milled / machine-tooled from marine grade 316 stainless steel.
Also trying out some Essence of Scotland Berry Fields O’Blair shave soap from the Gentleman’s Groom Room.
Berry Fields O' Blair shaving soap notes in full are as follows - Plum, Strawberry, Raspberry, Blackberry, Peach, Apricot, Blackcurrant, Lime, Apple Galbanum and Vetiver.
Soap ingredients - Potassium Stearate, Aqua, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Cocoa Butterate, Glycerine, Garcinia Indica (Kokum) Seed Butter, Sodium Avocadate, Parfum, White Kaolin, Allantoin.

Muhle r41 GS with a feather blade, most original gangsta of wet shaving I know

I have an R41 GS. Amazing razor. I have sensitive skin, many times I only shave with the grain. This provides an excellent one pass shave, and despite its efficiency, it feels comfortable on the face if you shave properly. I like the audible feedback of the stainless razor too, you can really tell when it's cutting hair, and I enjoy that it's an open comb that doesn't clog. Holds the blade well.

@@horatiuteodorescu8350 Happy to hear that! The longer I have my R41GS, the more I like it. It seems to torque the blade in just the way that the blades feel smooth when they're mowing down beard. I compare it to my Fatip Grande and Ikon Tech, and the blades feel blunt and rough in those razors. Hope you get great shaves with yours.

The standard R41 and most of the other razors from Mühle (and many other manufacturers like Merkur as well) are cast from an alloy called Zamak (Zink, Aluminium, Magnesium and Copper).

Lasg time I checked it appears Mühle and definately Merkur are mostly brass with only the top cap being zamak. That is probably the reason why both companies offer the caps as spare parts for about 10€.

I'm only 28 years old, but I grew up using d/e and since I've been able to I've been on the internet reading the great praises of the r41. Recently I purchased one and my expectations were very high. I was under impressed honestly, yes it is aggressive but really no more efficient than my trusty gillette tech fat handle. Like with all razors this one takes my standard two passes for a glass shave. One pass with and one against, cartridge razors are no different. Where this razor might shine is in the length of hair it can cut. I'm sure people wouldn't have a problem shaving a week's old growth with this. If I have that much I'll just continue to take the guard off my tech and replace it with a steel nut, pretty much a shavette at that point. I would like to get a junker baseplate and cut the guard off ad I'm sure that would offer more blade support.

I love my R41 Grande razor a lot and use of often enough with the Kai or Feather blades. I’m very fond of stainless steel razors (5/10 of mine are SS). I’m very tempted to get this 41GS despite the stiff price. But I’m disappointed at the polished, shiny finish that really spoils it for me. I prefer the unpolished matte steel finish I have on my Feather AS-D2, Rockwell 6S, the Rex Envoy and others. That’s what SS razors ought to look like. The 41GS opting for the glossy look ruined the true SS look many of us enjoy so much.

As of 6/20/22 you can get them on amzn. I purchased the standard R41 head and put it on a handle that looks like the Vikings Godfather. I've had really good single pass shaves with this combo. I have sensitive skin, so with aggressive razors, I always start with a derby and work my way up the sharpness ladder.

Wow, Today I was in my local barber shop and my barber ask me if I still collected razors? I said yep what you got? He brought out a big box FULL of different razors. in the box was a Muhle R41 and a R89 I got both for $20.00 each. I imagine such a challenge would only work for someone whose beard growth is fairly thin. They'd probably also need to know exactly how all areas of their beard grows (which may be irregular in odd places) and shave accordingly.

I just got the R41GS and used it for the first time. It felt more aggressive to me. If you compare the base plate of the original R41 to the GS, there is subtle a difference between the "teeth" of the two razors. I believe that is why the R41GS feels more aggressive than the original.

I have an original R41 and it really gives you an extremely close shave. Unfortunately the shave is very uncomfortable and I always draw blood. But I try it from time to time. Just to see if I can do better than last time.

I agree. I find my R41 stainless feels more aggressive than my R41 twist. When I looked at the baseplates, the stainless looks slightly different to the twist. Is yours the same ?

I bought one muhle razor the de89 and realized how slippery and cheap it felt and never bought another muhle brand product. Even now that i own thousands in high end razors, maybe this stainless version is worth a shot if the handle has grip.

Ken, do you know if Muhle sells just the SS head for this model? A lot of people have complained the original head is made out of Zamak and will not last when chrome is chipped or will experience Zamak rot which is intrinsic process of self-destruction on it's own by the cocktail of alloys used. Plus the SS handle is big, I'd like to use the traditional brass handle (chrome plated) on the SS heads which will last a lot longer and much more comfortable to handle.

R41 is way out of my reach with its aggressiveness. I find the 6s 4 plate to be very good and aggressive the last time I didnt shave for 4-5 days. I was impressed on how good it was that Im gonna try to use it with 1 pass only tomorrow.
