Two new studies show red meat and saturated fat are not harmful and don't increase the risk of heart disease, cancer, or dying early. To some, this may be a surprise, but it shows how important it is to look at the quality of data and compare positive and negative studies. Here's what you need to know about these studies.

When I used to eat meat I hated the fat. From the time I was a kid until the age of 22 when I stopped eating meat, I always thought it was disgusting. Your body doesn’t “need” saturated fats and cholesterol from diet when it can make them all de novo as needed. There are a handful of essential fats though.

Well… humans primary source of food was actually plants. For a simple reason - they were accessible everywhere, easier to get then meat. We evolved to eat plans. That’s why for example our intestines are longer than tigers’ - so that we can digest plants. Also our teeth don’t resemble very much the ones of carnivores.

The reason nutrition studies aren’t done by double blind placebo study is because food is not a drug treatment or a therapy. The difference is important. It leads to three important reasons. A double blind placebo study between beef burgers and what? What would the placebo be? Think about it? Second, for food ingredient safety, there isn’t an ethical justification for the volunteer risk like there is for say a cancer drug. Third, important effects are long term, over a lifetime, placebo trials are impractical and unethical over long time periods again for obvious reasons.
@jgreen9361

Let’s now look at the long term studies you so easily dismiss. If a study was done on two amazon tribes, one ate predominantly meat and fruit and nuts. The other ate the same meats, fruit and nuts plus green leaves. The ones that include the green leaves lived 10 year shorter leaves, what would you conclude? I can imagine the KZbin videos. “New Amazon study shows lifetime toxicity effect of eating spinach” Long term life time studies have been done on regular consumption of both processed meat, red meat and dairy products. Guess what? They shorten your life expectancy.

All I know is I was on a "healthy" vegan diet and felt like crap and had eczema and bad acne, I switched to just meat and veggies and feel like a new person with no eczema or acne.
@randvegeta
@randvegeta Жыл бұрын
It's important to remember that what is "healthy" for 1 may not be for another. Certainly not for all. It's clear that some people can be healthy living as a vegan while some may be healthier on carnivore. It wont be the case that 1 is healthy for all. Afterall, humans are all different. Peanuts can sustain humans for a good long while, but if you have a peanut allergy, it will kill you. Some people are lactose intolerant, some are fructose intolerant, some are gluten intolerant. So it should be clear that there are no 1 size fits all diets. Clearly, anyone on the carnivore diet, which by and large is suboptimal for most humans, who sees substantive benefits is probably just eliminating something from the diet that they cannot process as easily for others. I dont think it's being carnivore per se that helps people. It's the elimination of something (or things) that appears to be ever present in many plant based products. But not everyone will benefit from going carnivore. Personally, my body feels best on low fiber/low carb. But that's me, and not anyone else in my family. Food for thought.

Heme iron (meat/seafood) is better absorbed by the body than non-heme iron (plants). Certain factors can improve or inhibit the absorption of non-heme iron. The study on fats actually said: "SRs of RCTs applying substitution analyses indicate that SFA replacement with PUFA and/or MUFA improves blood lipids and glycemic control, with the effect of PUFA being more pronounced." "Conclusion: Overall, the available published evidence deems it reasonable to recommend replacement of SFA with MUFA and PUFA and avoidance of consumption of industrial TFA." This guy is totally misrepresenting the science.

This is what the study actually said, your "best channel" blatantly misrepresented the study and din't even link to it so people could not easily fact check his bs. "SRs of RCTs applying substitution analyses indicate that SFA replacement with PUFA and/or MUFA improves blood lipids and glycemic control, with the effect of PUFA being more pronounced." "Conclusion: Overall, the available published evidence deems it reasonable to recommend replacement of SFA with MUFA and PUFA and avoidance of consumption of industrial TFA."

@GraceSufficient74 Жыл бұрын
@Cyberfunk you intentionally left out the study's stated results: "Results: Fifty-nine SRs were included. The findings from SRs of prospective cohort studies, which frequently compare the highest versus lowest intake categories, found mainly no association of total fat, monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and saturated fatty acid (SFA) with risk of chronic diseases. SRs of RCTs applying substitution analyses indicate that SFA replacement with PUFA and/or MUFA improves blood lipids and glycemic control, with the effect of PUFA being more pronounced. A higher intake of total trans-fatty acid (TFA), but not ruminant TFA, was probably associated with an increased risk of mortality and cardiovascular disease based on existing SRs." So the video author is not lying. You simply chose to leave out that part.

No the cost isn’t justified imo. Yes grain fed meat is more inflammatory due to higher omega 6 to 3 ratio but you could also up the amount of omega 3 pills you take to compensate for that and it still be far cheaper than grass fed. Grass fed is important in eggs and butter/ghee. Other than that tho I wouldn’t worry about it.

It should be impossible to get sick from s legit form of nutrition for your body with no sign of microbes to help weaken your gut as well. Basically saying clean your food and that’s should be as far is it goes. It’s food and food is ready to be processed by your body to make useful proteins out of them.

One benefit of the PURE study is that in many countries around the world they actually feed their animals a species appropriate diet. In America we feed chickens and pigs such a poor diet they have an omega 6 to omega 3 ratio that is not healthy for the animals. Is that really a good idea? Eggs have the same problem. American nutrition studies only recently began to take into account the lipid profile of the diet. One study the authors actually noticed that lard is not even 1/2 saturated fat and yet most rodent studies use lard as the "saturated" fat. When they used coconut oil, the results were "surprising". Viola, in one experiment they invalidated probably 50 years of animal model studies. Lard (in America)may actually have toxic levels of omega- 6 oils, the research is still lacking in sufficient detail to be sure, though.

My parents and grandparents ate roast beef or lamb or pork on Sundays and during the week ate sausages, lamb or pork chops, black pudding and real home cured bacon for breakfast. They all lived into their nineties and didn’t have cancer, nor high blood pressure nor diabetes. Lashings of butter on bread and toast, double side fried bread, bread and beef dripping for supper snack. Doctors and dieticians have constantly changed the goal posts over the last seventy years. Oh by the way, they never had more than one full plate meal per day. Breakfast was a small item as was either lunch or dinner depending on which one was the “main” meal.

Because of health reason I didn't eat those processed vegan junk but whole food plant base. 7 months after my hair is thinning out and falling quite abit, brittle nails, prone to black head on face, difficult to see when driving at night, can't read if put too near to my eye,, gums problems and bleeding, mood swing, decreased joint mobility so I have to wear bigger jacket for easier to take off, swollen feet even buying shoe that is my size so have to size up a half, brain fog, forgetful, dry skin, darker skin, facial skin not glowing, need to pee every hour, bloated stomach im so thin due to vegan diet but belly is still somewhat a little sticking out, I meant just felt not good in general and I thought its normal because maybe I'm aging and I'm 40. So because of doing vegan for health issue not ethical I try out carnivore keto. At first I add animals product back into my diet, eggs and dairy then meat to see if my arthritis start to flare. I couldn't believe my self God knows 🙏 my joints swollen was gone, minimal to no pain at all and the problem that I mentioned above all gone and reversed! Now I eat meat, dairy, eggs NO sugar and very little fruits and vegetables everyday and lifting weights 💪, I look and feel 15 years younger.

I am a hypocrite when it comes to eating animals and I accept it because I chose my health over them. I wish meat came from trees, but unfortunately it does not. Of course I had to cut contact to all my former vegan acquaintances. I am persona non-grata for them. A former vegan is worse than a never vegan for them. We're not meant to eat that much fructose.

My theory is that people who've ignored the health recommendations on red meat for the last fifty year have ignored other health recommendations such as the suggestions that they avoid excessive sugar, trans fats, smoking, exercise, safe sex... So when they do an epidemiological study on red meat, they sweep up people who did all the other things. People who've adhered to the 'reduced red meat' recommendations are more likely to have done other things that help their health. It's only recently that red meat has been seen as a health food. There simply hasn't been enough time where people who exercise, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't drink excessively, don't eat garbage treats, ALSO DO eat red meat. A confounding problem with the carnivore community specifically is that many (if not most) of us are turning to carnivore when we already have serious medical problems - GI and autoimmune, most notably. I have scleroderma. My life expectancy was about two years five years ago. Now I'm doing MUCH better than I was back when I began carnivore, but I'm not in complete remission and the odds are I'm still not going to live to be a very old woman. I discovered carnivore much too late. At best, the medical community offers me an optimistic 15 more years. There are some health-conscientious people who are giving carnivore a go, but it'll be decades before we get reliable results from that limited cohort. I'm curious to see how many stick with it when they aren't motivated by pain and fear like the rest of us are.
