It’s been about 3 years since I took delivery of my tesla model 3 and I’ve had the original tires that came with the car which were the ProContact contisilent tires by continental. These were decent tires in my opinion and the road noise was minimal as these had foam embedded on each tire.

One thing I did not like was that there was absolutely no rim protection. After taking my tesla on multiple road trips and driving through narrow parking garages with hidden side curbs, I’ve scratched and nicked almost all four of my rims. I promised myself the next set of tires I would buy would have some sort of rim protection. My name is Evan and if you are new here, welcome. The factory tire size from tesla for the model 3 is 235. With my stock 19 inch sport rims more specifically 235/40/19. After reading multiple thread pages on the best tire for the tesla I found this handy list on reddit. Some of the tires have been discontinued or have changed the name slightly. But this list is an excellent reference point to find your tire based on the climate you live in while also staying in your budget. I was not ready to spend over 1,200 dollars for a set of 4 tires plus an additional 1-200 dollars to mount them. Looking at the chart here for all-weather tires it's no surprise that michelin is near the top of the list but scrolling to the right we can see the price is quite high pushing it over what I wanted to spend. I did not want to sacrifice ride quality nor increase the road noise with substantially cheaper tires. Also if the tire did not meet the Extra Load criteria like these two goodyear tires I would immediately pass. Tesla highly recommends using extra load tires as their vehicles are quite heavier due to the battery pack. The next tire in line based on ratings was the Vredestein Quatrac 5 Tire. At an overall score of 8.9 vs the Michelin at 9.1 and 9.2 respectively, the price was quite lower. In some categories like wet driving performance and ride quality, the scores were equal if not better. Looking at tire racks website, the vredestein quatrac 5 was no longer being produced but has been changed to the name quatrac pro. The price was in my range at 800 dollars for a set of 4 and the reviews rank high from many other tesla model 3 owners. I was looking at getting a slightly wider tire at 245 instead of 235, but tire rack had no idea when this size would be back in stock so I ended up getting the 235 and I’m pleased that these tires offer rim protection. What I mean by this is that the side wall slightly extends over the rim should you hit the curb the damage may be minimized if any. If in the future the 245 tires come back in stock I would assume this would offer even greater rim protection. Going with a tire any wider than this, may cause damage to your control arm. Before going into the shop to get these tires swamped I wanted to show you the current tires that came with the car. As you can see there is 0 rim protection as my finger slides right over the rim from the tires edge and doing the penny test on each tire shows Lincoln's head well exposed indicating my tires needed replacement. I’ll post a link below this video showing you how the penny test works. I’ve seen too many incidents of cars hydroplaning on the highway and end up crashing into something and that's something I’m not willing to risk. After this video maybe grab a penny and do a quick check to see if you need new tires. Anyways bringing my new tires into the shop to get changed out cost me another 200 dollars bringing the total to about 1000 dollars fully purchased and installed. Taking these out on the highway I’m very pleased with the ride quality and minimal noise level in comparison to the continental tires I had before. These vredestein tires feel high quality and after putting about 500 miles on them I’m very satisfied with my purchase. If you are in the market for some new tires and are looking to save a few hundred bucks I would personally recommend these vredestein quatrac pro tires for your tesla. No, I'm not being paid to promote these tires nor did I get these for free. I just wanted to share my opinion after swapping my tires out after 45,000 miles. I’ll have a link below this video showing the chart I found on the top rated tesla model 3 tires should you need it for future reference.
