We test drive and get some first impressions of the updated Toyota GR Yaris for 2024 on race track and on country roads.
The popular mini road going rally car that so many driver hungry enthusiasts have loved since it came out 2020 has now been signicantly updated. More power, better chassi, sharper steering, more effective cooling, new layout and an eight speed quick shifting automatic gearbox and much more. Toyota is taking care off their little hot hatch back and really means business with it. But are all these improvements making it worth a rather hefty 60 000 euros ?
Click play and you will know more. Enjoy!

Mine's on it's way arriving at the end of August. Test driven the Mk.1 and always have driven manual, the Mk.1 which felt very fun and involved. So of course I went for the manual transmission, might also have something to do with me despising automatics in anything other than a van or truck😁

Wow, big congratulations! Automatics and fast shiftings ones are something I usually like. But in this one it just feels like it was made for the manual gearbox. And thats great. Thanks for watching 🙏

I like the interior more than the GR Corolla. The infotainment screen and panel looks more special and race car-ish.

Feedback on the auto box hasn’t been great from journalists on KZbin, apparently it’s quite slow. Manual seems to be the way to go. Still hard to justify the price increase for what was already an expensive 3 cylinder.

Its rather funny actually, as I mention in the review. My expectations was set rather high for this automatic gearbox in this car, as it usually is for me in many other models compared to a manual one. It was good, dont get me wrong, but the manual in this little racer just proved to be the one to go for. Both for the fun factor but also the more engaging and in a curios way, more effective..A little taken by that experience. Might need to live with it for a week when it arrives in Sweden so i can really decide. Thanks for watching 🙏

Bought my brand new GRY 2023 Circut pack for 433k SEK. Was looking to upgrade to MY2025 but the price is now 590k for the auto after discount. That makes me look for a BMW M2 instead.

Matt Watson having the auto better in 0-60 and lap time
@whatcarwhattime
@whatcarwhattime Ай бұрын
Good for him 😊 But this is not a drag racer and a car to be setting lap times around track in, so I find cutting seconds irrelevant with this car. This one needs the total engaging driver and the manual gearbox to shine, and thats what crams the most fun out of as well. In my opinion 🫡. Thanks for watching 🙏

It's another Toyota rip off for those of us in Britain, they ripped us off on the MK1 compared to other countries, e.g. Germany, Australia. Had no option to have both circuit and convenience pack together. Now this new one is £10k more and still they can't put a few wires in for the convenience pack elements in it like parking sensors, rear cross alert, blind spot indicator, premium stereo. Not to mention the heated steering wheel and seats that didn't even make it to our freezing cold country.

Every penny counts on accessories to make bigger margins for car companies, sometimes that becomes frustrating for the customers. This is a somewhat special car but the new price itches a little. Thanks for watching 🙏❤️

@@whatcarwhattime The original MK1 , Toyota charged Brits 4.5m Yen for the MK1 (2020 currency conversion). The Mk2 will net Toyota 8.7m Yen, at current mk2 price (after VAT, but VAT rates haven't changed). Any sales in British pounds is a gold mine for Toyota, given that domestically they are charging Japanese customers 3-4.5m yen today for the MK2. So making double the Yen on the UK sales. I think they could have added in the extras or at least offered them at a discounted rate. Were talking a few wiring looms, sensors and a pair of tweeters.

@@anonay7238 Could do but you don't get the benefit of PCP financing. You'd be buying the car in full over 5yrs which then kind of doesn't offer much of an advantage.

despite the upgrades, the new price tag is encroaching that of a Porsche Cayman or Audi RS3. it certainly makes it less attractive of a purchase.

I think Rs3 is a valid competitor now. But it doesn't come with a manual. So if you want engine - Rs3. If you want manual, Yaris. For me, would depend on utilization. Daily driver or used in winter - Rs3. Track car and used in summer - Yaris. Reason for not considering yaris for winter - rust proofing is just not there, as with Japanese cars. It's a feature. :)
@whatcarwhattime
@whatcarwhattime Ай бұрын
@@arvisgri7491 I think the RS 3 sits in a little bigger class than the GR Yaris. And the RS3 is quicker but on tight winter roads you might have a little more fun in the GR Yaris. Thanks for watching 🙏

Did they actually remove the auto start/stop functionality? The actual button near the handbrake is gone - hopefully the system is removed. Hate that auto start/stop nonsense, only there for the fuel consumption tests.
