Manufactures tried this back in the 80s. There wasn't any sub-compact tractors like today. You either had a lawn mower or a farm type tractor. They started making huge lawnmowers like the Ariens GT series that where fully hydro static with a little 3-point hitch on the back, front and mid mounted PTO and power steering. They worked very hard, where built like a tank and where very reliable but simply didn't have the weight to truly do any type of pushing or pulling. This looks very similar to my old GT but with a roll bar. I see it as a lawn type machine but nothing more. Its hard to beat a good Hydro Sub-compact tractor of any brand.

Christy, pulling the cores helps to put soil on the seeds and significantly loosens the soil for roots to grow. The Aerovator is a great tool for packed clay soil, but no replacement for pulling plugs.

Tim i occasionally watch another youtuber and he used a ventrac with the front mower to mow off a steep hill side for a fella and the work that little machine did was nothing short of fantastic...the only issues he had was he wore out the belt ..with that said he was mowing over saplings and thick weeds about chest high..the fella that owned the property had been trying to mow that out for a couple years and never got it done because of the grade of the hill side wouldn't let him get in and out...(it was a hillside right into a lake at the bottom)...also i commented in someone elses comment about seeding and the rains etc..have a Blessed day from Alabama

How awesome of ventrac. There is another company that makes a aeravator Grass hopper lawn mowers. They do work quit well the disadvantage is that they are a little pricey. As you know I am in the landscaping turf business myself and have tried a lot of different fescue seeds blue grass does not grow well down here. I have found over the years one of the best fescues is Winning colors is a Lebanon turf seed also I would recommend putting your seed out at a higher rate. I over seed at a rate of 6 to 8 pounds per thousand and for new lawns I do 10 to 12+ pounds per thousand( I started posting this before David came into the video) LOL. We call Kentucky 31 pasture Grass down here it is no where near the type grass of turf type fescue we use in nice lawns down here. I really like that the Aeravator has the roller behind the seed box that really helps the seed to get contact with the soil wish is what you want for good germination we will sometimes pull a lawn roller over the area after we seed with just a little water to help the seed get better contact with the soil to germinate better. I agree with David you could not of aerated and seeded with conventional equipment on a day like you had when you did this video also as soon as the seed starts germinating put down a good starter fertilizer. great demonstration video Tim. Ventrac should be proud to have you on there Team. Have a great week. God Bless!!!

Tim you may have lost quite a bit of seed with the heavy rains but you would be suprised how much stayed...i used to work for trugreen years ago and all i did was pluggin (aererating ) and vertislicing and seeding ..that ventrac seems to do a combo of slicing and loosening the soil so i'm sure alot of the seed was far enough in the soil that it stayed..as for what David said about seeding..we used a fescue blend..i don't recall the exact name or numbers on the seed but our lawns stayed deep green from about mid april until december..now this was also in the midwest..we always seeded established lawns at 6 lbs per 1000 sq and new laws was 12 lbs per 1000 sq..hopefully this info helps

They took it off bc of the confederate flag on top of the General Lee, which was only shown how many times during there series? Not enough to kick the reruns off, that’s for sure. I’m taking just shy of $9k off of my tractor and everything with it. After my shoulder surgery and already being an amputee... Medically I won’t be able to use anymore. Still has remainder of warranty on it, 2016 just over two years old with only 109 original hours on it. Excellent condition. TLB and much more. @TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
Yes, understood. It isn't a direct replacement for a (sub)compact tractor.
@LoneStarMillennial6 жыл бұрын
Are you jumping the shark? I'm glad you are getting to use this super awesome machine and attachments, but I hope you still look to purchase a compact tractor and use and demonstrate that too--for your subscriber base--if they are anything like me, this is a pipe dream, so fun to watch but not actually informative or helpful for our own purchases and strategies like your sub-compact and I hope soon to be compact videos have/do/would be. There is no doubt in my mind Ventrac is the creme de la creme as an American made tank with the ability to do anything. If I were in the landscaping business and could afford it, Ventrac would be my first choice. As a spoiled rich person who did it myself, then I would get this too, but as a middle class guy, a 2038R is really the extent of cadillac tools for me, and without Frontier attachments (too expensive). Ventrac is out of my league.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
We have discussed this possibility. Hopefully that is not the situation. It is certainly not in our plan to become "Ventrac Only", or "Ventrac Dominant". We have 100+ videos per year. With this volume, we believe there is room for some variety. We believe our approach to demonstrating and describing equipment will remain informative and entertaining while providing a bit more variation in the actual content. Without making SOME changes, we felt that our channel would become repetitive and boring. We plan to continue in our same trajectory. Same types of projects. We'll simply have one (maybe more?) tractor(s) in the lineup. As you said, you expect the Ventrac to be 'fun to watch'. THAT is our goal. For example, in this particular video, many aspects of the video are applicable no matter what tractor is being used. Also, there is a 3pt hitch version of the AERA-vator available. I mentioned that in a draft version of the video, but it got cut due to time constraints. Additionally, there was information about aerating when wet. ...in other words, lots of (hopefully) interesting stuff even though a viewer might not be interested in the tractor we are driving. Expect to see Johnny, Casey, Vinny, and perhaps another unit?? all used together, individually, etc in our videos going forward. We will NOT make an 'exclusive' arrangement with a single manufacturer to show ONLY their tractor/attachments. We will buy our own equipment before we entertain such an arrangement. I know at least one other tractor channel has accepted the 'exclusive' arrangement. However, we will not. Variety is the spice of life. Does that help, or does it simply confirm your pessimistic thoughts?
@LoneStarMillennial6 жыл бұрын
I know y'all are always thoughtful so I'm not too worried. KZbin needs more people like you, who reflect the majority of middle America, and I'll always be a loyal fan! That being said, I've seen a lot of Ventrac vids on the likes of The Dirt Monkey's channel already, and I was hoping for a compact tractor, like a 2R!!! So I may not watch all the Ventrac videos, but I'll keep the bell on!
@majenness6 жыл бұрын
Lone Star: I agree completely. I am the proud owner of a 1025R and would like to (one day) graduate to a 2000 or 3000 JD series. That is a realistic dream. I can't even imagine owning a machine like a Ventrac. In the professional realm that would be ideal, but who in middle income America could justify that high end purchase with the necessary expensive attachments. It's not like buying a Bently to pull a manure spreader, but close. I'm really tuned in with Tim's Johnny and Casey videos, hopefully they will continue and not be phased out. Just my $.02 for what it's worth.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын

Tractor Time with Tim Thanks Tim for your reply. I guess I;m just an old foggy 70+ and am sure I wouldn't have been a very good parent. Of the three kids... Tim & Christy, I do have giggle every time I see a Ventrac on a KZbin Channel. I grew up in Wooster, which is about 15 miles west of Orrville, Ohio where the Ventrac facility you guys visited is located. It's even funnier when like the landscaper you feature in the video and others commenting here are like WOW??? I and my siblings grew up with and went to school with the Steiner boys. Wooster (Generals) and Orrville (Red Ryders) were football rivals and it used to get bad the week before we played them. We called them the "Whoreville Bed Riders" and it would go as far as hauling an old mattress and bed over at night and setting it up in the middle of their football field with a female mannequin strap to the bed in football gear and a few mannequins dressed as General's (Civil War style) coming to clean up their brothel type activities, soap windows, toilet paper the trees, spray paint General's on the lawn in blue and gold (yellow). It wasn't just a few. We'd have truck loads of students lay war and terror on their grounds and they would do the same to us. Oh those were the days! LOL Ironically a lot of kids came together from the various schools in the county to attend the Joint Vocational School, later renamed to the Career Center to remove "Joint" to be politically correct. But the Steiner boys took after their dad with helping on making the Steiner tractors. The first ones were completely red and named Steiner, which the first one were made in the early 1970's when I was a kid. They had a booth at the Wayne County Fair and most businesses owned a Steiner or two. Our school or the school board owned a few as well as the city. In the early 1990's after high school, I worked for a local heavy highway construction company about 6-7 yrs., before going out on my own to start an excavating business, due to the company had 3rd generation family issues... you the fist builds the business, the second screws it up and the third generation loses it! That is just what happened. Anyways, I had a couple of Steiners and they were awesome! But it's funny as back then I was just out of college for business at a branch of OSU at the age of 26... (started at 24). My excavating business was like 3. "Cutting Edge Construction" then there was "Compact Excavating Company" and "Compact Equipment Company". That way I could refer to them as C.E.C. and use the others for tax write-off and whatnot... like Compact Equipment Company owned all of my compact excavating equipment and moved, leased and rented the equipment to Compact Excavating Company who did work for the parent company as a sub... Cutting Edge Construction. I know confusing! LOL I had 4 Terrmite T9 4x4 backhoes which were about the size of Johnny. I had 4 Bobcat 773's and 2 T200's , 2 Bobcat 334's 1 337 and 2 341's mini trackhoes, a Leeboy 685B grader, 4 Komatsu D21P dozers and 2 Komatsu D21D track loaders. Everything if you look it up was 30-40 hp. I also had 6 Ford F450's that I got at a government auction and the highest I paid was $2600 for the one. All of them were 94 to 96 and the highest mileage one had 66500 miles.The Steiner tractors I used a few different ways. We took a couple steel drum lawn rollers and welded old rail road spikes on them to make compact sheeps foot rollers, which we filled with oil. We also retro fitted a couple of box blades like you would use on Johnny and retro fitted them into hydraulic drag boxes. We had a 5 ft and 8 ft, both with about 10 ft draw bar. So after grading large yard for a number of home builders, the Steiners and the drag boxes made quick easy work of leveling that we used in conjunction with the Bobcat T200's and Harley rakes. We even outfitted the Steiners with triple tires a few times. While I had the big boy toys, I made a killing in the 90's and 2000's before the economy tanked because again, in the early 90's compact equipment was just catching on and starting to get popular in the market. Large companies had just too much overhead and costs to do little jobs. I could have worked my compact equipment 7 days a week and was normally back logged. Plus, everything could be hauled on a skid steer trailer and my employees didn't need a CDL to move the the stuff. So you see why I could have worked the guys 7 days a week! Hopefully your followers who might be considering doing something like you will read this and get inspired of what is possible! And YES we were doing over a Million Dollars a year with the compact equipment alone! Dollar for dollar I was far more profitable with the compact equipment than the full size due to creating a niche. If they take the time to research the equipment, check it out and demo it like you guys, plus put some effort into figuring out your fixed as well as variable cost to come up with not just a realistic rate. But they learn to estimate the jobs good, have integrity with people like you guys do, anyone can be successful! I sold out in 2007 just before the economy tanked due to martial issues. Christy, my ex worked out there with us like you do Tim as well as was head of the finance dept. too! LOL Yet, before the fit hit the shan, I read in her journal where she felt like lonely. I always put her first and we were together 24/7 most of the time. Yet we had our time for ourselves. On the outside it seemed like we were in heaven with a great business, 18 employees, a new custom home, shop, barn, 6 horses and we got along great! There was my one friend from second grade who was super jealous and he would come over, get her fired up and leave me to deal with her. He wanted to be a partner and I said no! But he worked with us in his free time. Right before we split up, he was contacting my developers and wanting draws for work completed and they called me with what is up? The nail in the coffin was a birthday card to my ex with $3500 and a note saying I shouldn't treat her that way and my business was going under and he would leave his wife for her if we split up. With friends like that, who need enemies!!! That was the last I seen of him and her! Anyways, somewhere in the 90's Steiner moved to Dalton, Ohio which is about 15 mins east of Orrville and that is where they had their plant. I think and may they told you about the history in your tour? But I think around the tanking of the economy they sold the Steiner division to Schiller Grounds Care, Inc. in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin, where they are still made today. The funny thing is they designed and sold the Steiner division and kept the Ventrac, which is basically the same thing, only with more refinements. If anyone wants to see what the Steiners look like or want info on them, visit www.steinerturf.com/ I never had Ventrac but I highly recommend the Steiners 450. They were designed and manufacturer by the Steiners, which as Tim & Christy can attest to from their visit, all the people at Ventrac are great people and make a super great machine that will last a long time with proper maintenance! They are totally worth the investment! If anyone goes to visit Ventrac, make sure to plan some extra time as just down the road is J.M. Smuckers who make Smucker's Jelly. Their is Smith Dairy, Inc. all right there in Orrville. A short drive in Lehman's Hardware in Kidron, Ohio (about a 15 min drive). Lots to see and check out. But growing up there, the Steiner and Ventrac has been pretty common place. Just funny to see people see them and they are like WOW! I have never seen anything like that before, when they have been around for like 40 yrs. now. LOL I now live in Mansfield, Ohio and own and operate a health & fitness online retail business, but do stuff like screen printing, airbushing , heat press stuff and working on a long over due channel of my own. Keep up the awesome videos you two!!! Love the channel! Tim, would love to see if the Ventrac guys can get you a tiller and snow blade . Then compare it along side Johnny. Can't want to see more vids of Venny and thanks for making me feel like I'm back home in Wanye County watching your video!

The new machine is beautiful. When you did the Ventrac video I got the feeling you were really impressed by the quality and range of attachments. Through all those test videos I never really got a feel for what you really wanted. I still think that question hasn't been answered. This Ventrac does some things Johnny is not as good at and Johnny has capabilities Vinny doesn't touch. Now I'm thinking this Ventrac is invadeing johnny's space for much of the light work he has done. So maybe Johnny is going to be replaced with a bigger version of himself with Vinny doing the light work and with all his attachments getting exersized for a more rounded Tim capability. The future will tell. I'm expecting an addition to the back yard garage comming soon. Well, we're all on the edge of or chairs anticipating the next big move we know is comming! God bless you two and see you on the next one.

He may need a double-decker trailer to haul in all the equipment. Or... perhaps a couple more trailers and tow vehicles and they can convoy to each job site. :-)

What makes them actually vibrate is it some kind of wind and release on the shaft?
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
It is a ... well ... name is escaping me.... it has the same feature as a camshaft in a car. As it rotates, each set of tines is off-center, causing the vibration. Help me with the terminology. I'm having a brain freeze!

@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
Well, Joe, the Prius V didn't work so well pulling the trailer with Johnny. In other words, I don't see those two vehicles as a contradiction. We need the truck to pull the trailer. It has to be a more powerful (and obviously more fuel hungry) engine.

I know other people have mentioned about your storage space is kinda full already. And I think you have said in a previous video that according to some city ordinance that you are only allowed to have a certain percentage of your property in hard surface like concrete. So to solve your problem and shop around the ordinance would the possibility of using old shipping containers for storage work for your needs. Just throwing ideas out there. Cheers

Wow this terrific. I’ve been thinking about Ventrac an wondering if our local seller rents attachments like this one. I have slowly been seeding a lot of my bare spots without renting a seed slicer and this unit would be wonderful. Is that seed any good for heavy shade? I’m glad that Gordon has now passed so is your yard looking better? Sorry for all the questions but the Ventrac video is exciting.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
Well, ‘your local dealer’ may have some attachments now :-) ...not sure if they rent the tractors! However, I don’t think you need to rent. You just need to call TTWT! This seed is supposed to be great in sun or shade. From the sound of David, I think it is the best thing ever!

@rigginsranch6 жыл бұрын
I've been watching and reading some of the comments on your videos and I've noticed your viewers don't know much. For instance a core aerator pulls plugs out of the to loosen the soil so it's not so compact. That kind of aerator just pokes holes in the ground and compacts the soil even more. Just some food for thought.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
The vibrating times on this aerator loosen and lift the soil. It feels totally spongy after going over with this tool. So, no, it doesn’t just ‘compact it further’. There are lots of spike aerators out there which do just what you are saying, but this one is unique. The powered / shaking tines do amazing work.
@eosjoe5656 жыл бұрын
Nice unit Tim and good review video. Are the large wheels that the spikes are mounted to made of plastic or metal? How tolerant is it on large exposed roots? Using a slit-seeder around here is a pain because of all the exposed and shallow roots because you cannot run over them and have to mark everyone with a flag to avoid damaging the slit-seeder blades.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
Very thick/tough steel. It kinda bounces over the roots. Doesn’t seem to harm seeder, and digs in as best it can. We’ll try to have more on that later!
