For the confusing haybot attacking thing. You know when haybots run after you, they reach you, then push you a bit before actually attacking? That doesn't happen anymore. It is likely the same thing that happens when they chase wocs. You see haybots just pushing wocs around without actually attacking them for a sizable distance. I assume that is what the devs are referring to.

I think it's also referring to when they would just stop and circle around you and brandish their pitchforks at you for no reason. Like they'd stop and would keep within about a 2 m radius from you until you either got too far, too close, or attacked them. I think they've set them to stop doing that so much and just go bal--er, nuts to the walls.

That, and they need to come clean about durability. Is it "damage dealt needs to exceed this level all in one hit?" or is it more of, "this is the starting durability and it degrades with each blow?" It's seeming like the latter of the 2, but it really would be nice to know this, and the clear meaning of all the other stats.

@@steeljawX the problem with the later comes in when the blocks are gathered and stacked. I doubt it keeps track of each blocks hp.

@@steeljawX Blocks/parts do not store 'health'; they're either destroyed or they aren't. Each bot *attack* has a % chance of breaking blocks of each durability rating. This chance decreases as durability goes up. In 0.4.7, haybot attacks can destroy up to durability 7 (chance: 1%) and totebot attacks can destroy up to durability 5 (chance: 5%). In 0.4.8 test, these attacks account for durability values up 9. [Source: game files - (Scrap Mechanic)\Data\Melee\attacks.json] Weight stat means density, by the way.

He's probably why they made the change. I've seen it happen in at least one other game where a KZbin player was playing the game in a way they hadn't intended and didn't think was very feasible, after his videos came out they said nope and made the game even harder. It was a game designed for co-op only play, he spent many hours figuring out how to beat the first few "easy" levels solo. lol

I think the durability is more of a "health" thing and not like "if dmg < durability, then 0dmg" Perhaps it is chance, like: "if durability is X, then have X% chance to damage"

According to the json files haybot could always damage up to 7 durability items but they never attacked 6 or above. Now they do attack them. But if the haybot destroyed tier 3 metal with a durability of 8 then that has changed as well. Maybe you could use warehouse keys and useless green garment boxes for defense. You really need to look at what the levels are now in "Scrap Mechanic\Data\Melee\attacks.json" for 0.4.8.

@@roccov3614 I say it is most likely just an HP system as it looks to be like that, and it just deals it's damage to the material and will eventually destroy it no matter what... which is good... at least you know you can't relax for ever. And if that is the case, it will be good to have some visual of how damaged a block is so you know when to fix your wall. :) I personally would like it if that's how it is... but I somehow doubt it will be like that.

By "Farmbots react to Sounds.", they mean the universal term of Farmbots. Farmbots in terms of big red wide reaper already reacted to sounds. They react to Spudgun shooting near them.

There still is a safe space... in most worlds as you pass the very first abandoned building heading towards the mechanic shop there is usually plateaus or mesa's off to the left side... they are flat on top and can be planted on ive successfully done 300+ crop farms on top of them with no defense for as many nights as i want...

I feel like we need to be able to take corn into a blazed forest and either have it pop creating a burst like an explosion or like when a bot dies and it sends everything touching it out to the stratosphere, or it dries out the kernels. I really would want to have "cannons" in the game and have "canister rounds" (basically shotgun shells for tank and artillery cannons) for raids. Like you can make them literal glass cannons, made out of glass and get destroyed after 1 shot, but I think the concept would be fun, especially if the raids are going up in difficulty.

Perhaps an oscillting turrent would help with defence. Itd be really complicated to program it so it stops on, tracks and shoots enemies though. I imagine youd have a center sensor, and one on each side for tracking.

What really makes this update harsh is the fact that there are still Limited resources, Like concrete and wood(for now at least) for example, as well as Ember, theres no way to obtain those via farming or other means, other than just going out and pulling what rocks from the land

I think the only non destructive item should be crafted out of a warehouse key and 20 corn and for that you get one block but if a cow spends more than a hour within 20 blocks it goes pop and makes 10 milk

Haybots were always able to destroy Metal Tier 2 (Durability 7). They just wouldn't try. But if you made a little fence out of Metal 2 and you were right behind it they might try to attack you and there's a small chance they destroy a block. Somebody looked up the odds of this happening in the game files and I believe it was 0.2% per hit.

Durability now acts as a saving throw.. like every attack rolls a die and higher Durability increases the chance for the block to resist the attack. Means warehouse keys are probably no longer safe. Every attack will eventually destroy blocks, given enough time. You should retest warehouse keys.

I think they have to fine tune this corn-destroying-by-collision thing, and I understand what they were going for with the no invincible materials part. With some tinkering, this could be an awesome update, and it could bring some hint of realism in the humble, honest and a bit joyful Scrap Mechanic way.
