The great war and world war are synonymous. Nobody called it WW1 at the time.

There is a real disconnected between the happy background music, monotonous narrator voice and the grim realities of war. Nevertheless, thank you for preserving our history

I was thinking the same thing. The music near the beginning was practically carnival music.

"THE TRAGIC MIGRATION OF 1914" but yeah, forget about 1918 and 1945, the hell with em right

Talking about 1945 perhaps would have needed some type of time travel.

At approx the 7:00 minute mark, a newspaper headline reads "Fifty World War Destroyers..." and then commentator repeats those words. At the time, WW2 hadn't received that moniker because it had yet to become a world war. There had only been one world war, which, you guessed it, was called the World War. Just as there had been the English Civil War, the Crimean War, and so on, the World War was just what it was called before the rest of the world joined the Allies or Axis powers and elevated the then current war to the status of a world war for a second time in the first half of the century.

It was called "The Great War"

@X - Force Aye, it was called the "Great War" by contemporaries, that is, during the war and shortly after. But, as illustrated in this very news reel, by the end of the 1930s, it had lost that moniker and had become the "World War".

Very propaganda oriantatied, and the US wasn't even in the war yet.

So the axis were a bunch of nice guys who were just misunderstood? The US refusal to join the allied forces only delayed the inevitable and very likely contributed to millions of additional deaths.

I was thinking the same thing, he was speaking as if America was already fully allied at a time, when we were technically neutral, even if we were already breaking neutrality with lend lease and anti Submarine patrols. Quite interesting considering most Americans were vehemently against joining the war in any capacity right up until Pearl Harbor.
