It sucks this guy couldn't value and appreciate what he had and live a decent life as a decent man. What a privileged life to live; career and financial security, multiple roofs over your heads, indulging in travel and hobbies, surrounded by the love of your family and friends, supported by a family legacy. The only things that ever seemed to go wrong in their family was only ever brought on by themselves. Literally living the 'American dream' and turned it into a living nightmare. What a terrifying thing to happen to his wife and son!

It did start with the great grandfather who may have been corrupt and just kept traveling down the generational line. Even Buster was originally kicked out of law school for cheating. Both Alex and Buster have lost a considerable amount of weight. But prison food might do that to you. They both were looking like the Pillsbury doughboy.

Agree. It was arrogance & self-centered interests. To feel you stand ABOVE all the rest of the community & you can do however & whatever you do (without really getting into trouble) THAT is what lead to this sick mind committing murder & wrecking the legacy of his family, the future of his son (who is an apple not far from the tree) ...

I'm surely not an attorney but I understand exactly what prosecution is doing. He wants to put a face behind the money that was taken from them. Wants to show the jury that these people suffered from their losses and their living with medical issues and no money there's one thing to steal money but to steal from a quadriplegic? This is a whole new crime now. Stealing money is stealing money to me. It's different when you steal from a church, charity someone in need.

reasons he did it.. life insurance would've been huge for them both and if his family was murdered than most likely the people wouldn't come after him in court for the millions he stole because even though he did something bad stealing money, losing his family would be more horrible.. the man has twisted mind.. who finds his wife and son murdered but shows no sadness, kept asking cops are you sure they're dead, not please tell me they're alive or will live, is someone trying to save their lives, are they going to make it, no he said are you they're dead because if they survived they could tell everyone he did it.. he said he wasn't there but was because of a video Paul shot, he told the caregiver of his mom to lie about how long he was there and he would pay for her wedding, the spot where his wife's phone was he slowed down at the right spot, so many lies.. why wouldn't he be mad, upset and trying to find the killers, why did he stay there if they were just killed, what if the killers came back.. he's on the stand because he wants to show the jury he's a good father.. he started calling his son pau pau and there is no video or evidence showing him calling paul that.. he wants them to feel bad so they rule in his favor.. he's a sicko who deserves the chair.. even if he didn't kill them he deserves to be in jail for life for taking advantage of people and stealing money from friends/coworkers

I would like them to call back people who KNEW THEM WELL, as a family unit, within the home, like HER SISTER, and find out it he ever went around calling her RoRo and he PaPa. My father had a nickname for my mom, I don't know where it came from, but he called her "Sam." Her name was Phyllis. But that was reserved in use between them, and not used all the time. It was a term of endearment. Not over used, etc. and most people that knew them, would NOT, know that, and he would never in this type of situation use it. (God forbid.)

Murdaugh is doing his absolute utmost to be as obfuscatory, as obstructive, and obnoxious as he possibly can. This is a deliberate ploy which any of us who have had to deal with a narcissist recognise immediately. If you have a person in your life like this, walk away. Do not let them rile you. They thrive from it and if you do grab them by their weedy little necks, you have unfortunately fallen for their little plan. The constant repetition of Mr Waters’ questions, the pretence he doesn’t understand the questions… it’s all manipulation. He thinks he’s making Mr Waters look silly but in reality he is just making himself look stupid. A person with a law degree not understanding a simple question? This is where Murdaugh shows his arrogance in that he believes the jury is so beneath him, so not as clever as him that they will fall for his manipulation. What he forgot to remember in all this is that the jury were not selected because of their damaged, possibly even abused backgrounds. A narcissistic manipulator will select a partner based on exactly that, because they know they will be able to grind them down. Congratulations to Mr Waters for his professionalism and resilience in dealing with this specimen. May Murdaugh be isolated from humanity for the rest of his earthly existence.

To me it is painful to listen to the cocky prosecutor, and I completely understand to Murdaughs point of view, trying to get accurate answers to sometimes rather foul questions. The prosecutor is like a snake that cannot grasp the right angle of how to "destroy" his victim. Murdaugh has made really bad things economically, but that certainly do not make him a murderer. It crossed my mind he organised to be clipped with a bullet in that roadside shooting so he could pretend he was trying to commit suicide via a staged murder. Q: Why would he stage a murder that was carefully planned from the outset to fail? It was staged to make him look good, like dad of the year. He said he organised to have his own life taken so the family would benefit financially. As in he's such an incredible father he'd do ANYthing for his sons including ending his own life to ensure his precious sons' financial security. Surely a father so committed to his sons and so willing to die for their financial futures would never ever kill one of them! Surely everyone can see what this devoted father was willing to sacrifice for them! He certainly laid the grounds to put that message out there. It's certainly very coincidental that he walked out of that shooting pretty much unscathed and alive with a big story to tell about being dedicated father of the century. I think that whole 'I hired my own killer' thing needs to be deeply investigated. Right now to me it reeks of just another one of his lying dodgy sly deceptive self-serving behaviours and actions.

Alex acts like the sobbing, rocking, mess of a grieving father with his defense lawyer. He suddenly becomes a calm, collected, knowledgeable, lawyer with the prosecutor but a very defensive one. He can't dispute that he has lied to family, friends, colleagues and authorities. He can't deny he has been corrupt and stealing from clients/partners for at least 13 years (probably more imo). It will blow my mind if the jury doesn't see through his act. I believe the collective evidence that Alex committed these murders. I'm very suspicious of Buster and feel he's involved in some way, perhaps in covering for his dad and perhaps more. His total lack of emotion re the loss of his mother and brother is remarkable. There are a lot of people that lie or steal, but to tie it to murder is a stretch. To me, it seems like he is being truthful about misdeeds, so maybe a juror I find him to be remorseful and truthful.

As an attorney myself, he did a terrible job. He allowed him to answer many questions with questions and played into it. This man is by far one of the worst people I would have allowed to go up against someone as smart as he is.

Masterful?!!! Prosecutor made Murdaugh sympathetic and showed that he was the more likable than Waters.

Let's not forget his housekeeper's suspicious death and he helped himself to the money that should have gone to her kids! Kill once, easy to kill again.

Apparently by his own admission, one of the folks he "helped" was a quadriplegic, who he stole several million dollars from. What a guy...

He got up there and tried to bs his way through the questions. Instead of getting sympathy it made him more dislikable for insulting the jury’s intelligence. Not a sign of genuine grief or repentance.

I believe he felt he was doing them a favor by shooting them. Paul was facing serious prison time, and the family faced a substantial civil judgment because of the boat accident. Also, the truth about his drug addiction, theft, and embezzlement was about to come to the surface, which would cause ridicule and the end of the social status that the family had enjoyed for years. If all of these pending actions had played out as expected, the Murdaugh's could have been bankrupted. He killed Paul so that he wouldn't have to face an inevitable prison sentence, and he knew that Maggie would be 1. devastated by Paul's death and probably never get over it, 2. embarrassed and ridiculed among her social circle and the entire community for Alex's actions 3. would most likely divorce Alex once the truth came out. I could believe that he rationalized both murders as necessary to save them both from any further pain or ridicule. I think that helped him justify the shootings in his mind. Just my opinion.

Interresting take. I agree that he was trying desperately to save face, keep the cover up going, which he had plenty of help doing, from so many powerful people in South Carolina Judicial System and Politics and Law Enforcement. So many people covered up for the Murdaugh family for so long that now, many don't believe Alex will serve any time. My take on the murders is that Alex was confronted that very day about his stealing by his law firm, his dad was terminal, Maggie would not sign for a third morgage on the beach house and was having checks bounce, plus Paul was out of control with drinking and partying plus had the trial coming up for the boat accident . I think Alex thought he could get out of all of it, if something horrific happened to his family and guess what. It almost worked. His law firm rallyed around him. Put the money issues on hold and tried to help him. I think Alex was setting Cousin Eddie up to take the fall but that didn't work out either.

It’s so out of touch. His wife didn’t work and they had a full time housekeeper-I cannot even imagine. (I work 50 hours a week, clean my house, make the meals, pay bills… and still I know I live a wealthier lifestyle than many.)

The sad part is he is only admitting this to get him out of this trouble trying to look like the honest guy...he only admits the obvious then tries to throw shade on that.
