@@user-tb5fc6yr7o If you want to hear about an interesting case on consciousness read about the Christopher Porco case. I'll try to make it as short as possible...Chris was a college student who was charged with attacking his parents with an axe. The mother survived, the dad didn't. However, the dad didn't die right away. In an amateurish way, I'll say that we have two brains, our old reptilian-like brain that controls our heartbeat, organ functions, eyesight and our more modern brain that gives us an ability to feel remorse, sense humor, abstraction, logic. The dad's modern part of the brain was destroyed completely, but his reptilian-like brain was still functioning (he had other wounds to his body as well). When the dad awoke from loss of consciousness, he stood up without being aware that he was nearly hacked to death and bleeding, or that his wife laid near him bleeding out near death. He made it out of bed and walked (stumbled rather) downstairs, never calling 911, but still proceeded to do his normal routine! As if by rote. He went to the kitchen, sloppily poured himself cereal and then decided to get the newspaper. Once outside he realized he locked himself out. So, he got the hidden spare key, and went back in the house. At this point he was bleeding too much and started holding on to the wall and finally fell down and expired. What amazes me to this day is how this man did all that, but was not aware anything was wrong...he was literally hacked up and slowly bleeding to death! He remembered where they hid the house key but did not have the wherewithal to call 911! Shows how many of our actions are just done unconsciously...which is probably how I always manage to forget if I took a pill even minutes after I took it (or didn't take it? 🙃 😉). It's an interesting story for other reasons...I won't give all the details away (there should be a dateline TYPE program on it, that's how I first heard about it).

@@susanivy3619 Yes, you are absolutely right in that only a small part of our brain is concious action. But its more complicated than it only being found in the neocortex. Its a network that needs to function. Parts of your brainstem are vital as well. Its the network between all parts that results in conciousness. Its a cool story, but his entire neocortex could not have been destroyed for that to happen. We have a lot of memory and motor memory we dont conciously think about, and its found mainly in the neocortex. Its not at all surprising it can happen like that with brain damage. It also happens when you are drunk, or just your everyday autopilot behaviour. Most things in the neocortex happens without us conciously thinking about it. But its a huge network, and its much more complicated than "reptilian brain vs modern brain" in reality. But you are absolutely right in that most if what we do is not concious behaviour. You would probably like the book "the man who mistook his wife for a hat" by neurologist oliver sacks, especially the split brain experiments he refers to. I highly recommend this book.

I have studied the Bible quite a bit, and I am sorry but I just don't get a lot of aspects about it like you apparently do. I love church and attend often, but that is because I think it is good for my kids and I enjoy the fellowship. I do love God and know he is behind everything great in the world that I love. I just don't think a man written book has all the true answers. Why does it talk about a burning hell, when God is so full of love and mercy? The Bible depicts God as vengeful and I just don't think the God in my personal heart and mind would cast one of his much loved children into the pits of hell for not giving their entire lives up to him or for committing sin and not asking his forgiveness. The Bible is awesome and full of good stories and many of these have great life lessons, but that's just that. Religion was made by man to control people. It insights and instills fear into people so they won't as likely be nuisances to society. But I do like your opinions and admire your devotion and faith.

I suppose I am just sorely lacking in faith in some aspects towards religion and wholeheartedly believing everything in the Bible. I wish I did, perhaps one day I will. His brain was so destroyed, no one thought it possible for him to survive. He eats, laughs, learns, and best of all, has a sense of humor. I sometimes think that he teaches me more than I have taught him in all these years. He clings to life every day, and I feel blessed to help him along because he is so special. This is why I'm against abortion. Disabled kids can change people lives! I truly saw how others change their lives for the better. I was born with a rare form of dwarfism called McKusick type Metaphyseal Chondrodysplasia, which led me to have severe osteoporosis and no cartilage in my body. I was also born with Hirschsprungs disease, so I have abdominal and digestive symptom problems. As much as how painful it is being stuck in my weak body as a 26 years old, I trust in God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. I was born having faith in God and no trials or burden would make me doubt it but there is times where I ask God why so many obstacles on my path when in fact I'm in tons of physical pain. Then I come to realize that we are put here on earth to be tested and obviously God doesn't ask us to be perfect but we should try. Eventually we will all be perfect once our Redeemer Jesus Christ comes to rescue us. I can't wait til I am pain free and perfectly healthy at Resurrection. God loves us all.

I feel so bad for this poor child. All these people saying "he's now in heaven, free of any pain" so you agree that he lived in pain? Why would the parents be so selfish to bring a barely sentinent being into the world whose short existence was ridden with seizures and pain? If they really loved him they should have let him go before he could feel any pain at all. I feel so so bad, I just don't understand, why would God want such a painful existence for an innocent creature?? Why are pro-lifers supporting this? They say they care about life but this wasn't a good life quality at all. He wasn't a "miracle baby", he wasn't "God's will", he was a tragic being that shouldn't have been born. In cases like this abortion really would have been the kindest, most merciful thing. RIP Jaxon, i'm so sorry.

I support their right to choose to not terminate this pregnancy, but they don't have a right to put this baby's limitations on social media in an elaborate and disgusting humble brag. And I don't support the anti-choice organizations who no doubt provided their own financial incentives for this disgusting display of what should have been this baby's private moments. This is the same cold calculating hypocrisy that refuses to provide healthcare and quality of life support to children in need but is fine giving it all to the wealthy and privileged. This baby should have been provided a guardian ad litem who would have protected him from his parents cashing in on this ghoulish voyeurism. There was nobody willing to rescue him from the burden of entertaining and "inspiring" the public, not in his short life and not now in death. Once again we see how utterly lacking Jesus proclaimers tend to be when it comes to a actual empathy. Ironically, if you read the bible, Jesus talked about it all the time.

Without constant resuscitations, drugs, and invasive procedures, this little infant should have died peacefully not long after birth. Instead, the parents were incredibly selfish and decided to make a project out of it. The mother would record it having seizures and upload it on the internet. Its parents were repugnant. Also, the gods don't give a sh*t. Why would a god care about dead things? Why did the gods allow this poor organism to be birthed with most of its CNS missing? First off Jaxon is a handsome young little man and so smart, he is blessed to have you as his parents and i feel the same, and you are blessed to have him, even if his life is short, there is something to be learned, rather from him to you or you to him, treat every moment like it may be your last and engulf yourself in his love. Be Blessed

Jaxon's brain never developed beyond a brain stem and he suffered with constant seizures. My heart goes out to that poor, dear child who was exploited by his parents and then placed in a care facility. 😢

I would not have let my child go through that. That was not living, that was pain🥺

@feebeedee what is there to learn about this family tell me? The hundred thousands of dollars they stole or the humiliating vidéos they put online?

feebeedee he was never really alive though. He got no cognition of any kind. He was less sentient than a farm animal. I sound cruel but it’s true, at least animals can form bonds with things.

If you don't have kids you will never understand what kind of immeasurable, unquantifiable, and unexplainable love that your small child has for you as a mom or dad. You all can assume the child was constantly suffering - but how many of you have held a child in chronic pain and felt them immediately relax in their parents presence, or despite the pain be able to sleep soundly in a loving home. There are some things that defy science and cold logic. And many will never know the horrible strain that burden can place on a marriage.

So youre sayi g it's more important what YOU ThInK care and feel? That body could be suffering and you wouldnt kbow it, without a proper brain, signs of pain and suffering could possibly not be possible to make outside reaction etc GTFO you selfish peasant

Thank you!! I have multiple disabilities and chronic illnesses, reading many of the comments is absolutely heartbreaking. I can’t believe people still think that people with disabilities are automatically suffering. I live in a constant state of pain due to one of my disabilities and chronic illnesses, but I absolutely adore being alive. Judging by the smile on that little boys face, he also adored his short life, he was surrounded by love.

You're confusing love with selfish desire and clinging. When a man abducts and rapes a woman, that's not "love" in the sense of compassion. That's wanting to have someone for yourself.
@MrCmon1136 ай бұрын
@@riabeweeb1018 Again, you're totally driven by selfish clinging. He didn't have the brain required to hear or understand any loving thing that was said. Love is about actually wanting to help someone else. Not make yourself feel better through their proximity.

@@MrCmon113how is killing jaxson gonna help him? You yourself said that he had no brain, he was already as good as dead so it wouldn’t make any difference

@jack carney WELL, that is a television character so no...that being said, my husband did name our son Maxwell after his favorite physicist which, of course, I pointed out to him at the time no one would EVER UNDERSTAND. Please tell your father, Art, hello from the Klinger family.
