Thank you for your great reporting Brian! This issue deserves greater attention, the media should be able to walk into any prison and record what's going on in there. What does the prison management have to hide? This is very concerning!

I believe everything Todd is saying. Brian do not listen to the haters. This is a story that must be heard. Congress needs to step up! The entire USA prison system needs reforming & cleaned up. Look just because ppl are in prison, doesn't mean they should be treated inhumane or like animals. Its a disgrace! Just put yourself in the shoes of the family. I don't know anyone that would want your loved one in those conditions. They are paying their dues. Lastly, Todd is in Federal prison, imagine the deplorable conditions of non-federal prisons.

Frankly, this is something I have felt compassionate about. We are paying to have these people in prison and allowing the prison system or institution to determine their care and safety. For a minimum security prison, it is horrendous to hear how inmates are being abused. Their punishment is being locked up away from loved ones, not having the freedom to make any choices for themselves. That should be punishment enough. The prison is punishing Tod because he is a wealthy famous person. I experienced a similar situation. When I was 14 (in the late 60s) I ran away from home because I ditched school and got caught, and I was put in juvenile hall for 21 days. Normally, a runaway was locked up for 5 days. The 1st night in, all kids would spend 24-hours in lock up alone. That was a concrete cell with no windows. The only way to tell day or night was by the meals. There was a concrete slab with an old worn out lumpy mattress that was about 3 inches thick in the lumpy parts. A toilet was so low to the floor you had to squat to sit on it. A sink with a small faucet that ran rusty dark water from it. No human contact at all. Meals were slid under the steel door 3 times a day. You laid in the dark the entire time except for meal time, which was 10 min duration. I came from a small town. Everybody knew everybody. My parents were wealthy and owned a few businesses one was a radio station. My dad had a morning talk show that most people listened to. So, when I was put in juvy, I was made to stay in lock up for 3 days instead of the usual 24 hours for everybody else..they told me that I was a spoiled rich kid and I needed to be knocked down from my high horse.. I know being in prison and juvenile hall are worlds apart. But I sympathize for inmates (non violent) that are abused..being locked up and not having any freedom should be punishment enough.

Thanks for sharing. Clearly that experience is still inside you and I pray that you continue to heal. Sharing it today helps people to better understand. Many people have become inhuman by "othering" prisoners and disassociating from the reality that the conditions must change. I hope that Mr. Chrisley gets an appeal, and meanwhile his awareness helps to trigger much needed reform.

I absolutely believe what he’s saying. I have a family member that’s mentally ill and ended up committing a crime (first time in their life) and is in a county jail. This family member ended up in the medical unit. The family member was in medical for 12 days and got 2 showers the entire time (asked everyday and was ignored). You are placed in a cell alone for 24 hours a day. The medical staff changed the bandages when they felt like it. The doctor that cleared to go back to general population looked at the wound through the door. When the person was back in general pop it was an even bigger fight to continue wound care. If you are in jail or prison they don’t give a rats ass about you. They blast the music/tv at all hours of night and day. They turn the lights on in the middle of the night and leave them on. I’ve never seen people get treated so poorly in my life.

My nephew, barely 38 years old and a non-violent prisoner keeled over and he did not get medical attention fast enough. He had started having health issues in prison. Sadly, he passed away. It has been since the first week of December 2023 and his family has yet to get his personal belongings or a cause of death. He too was to be released at any moment the very same week he passed away. He isn't the only inmate to die recently at the same prison in Georgia.

My family member recently served a 5 year federal prison sentence for a financial crime. We learned very quickly that often times they punish the inmate by punishing the family. My family member received “diesel therapy” that Todd alluded to….and told us the exact same information about the food in his facility. He was in Minnesota. This is so widespread and egregious and something HAS to be done. ESPECIALLY for nonviolent crime!

I’m glad you’re doing this story. And here’s the thing, everyone is saying that Todd is complaining, and Julie is complaining and what do they expect when they’re in prison.. NOBODY SHOULD LIVE UNDER THE CONDITIONS THAT ANY OF THESE INMATES ARE! And also, it’s a good thing that because they are famous, and their kids are putting out this information which reaches way more people than the average inmate. People are paying attention. And everyone is also mad because the chrisleys are talking about prison reform and what-not, and why now, only because their parents are in prison..Ever stop to think that you don’t know how bad something is, until you’re directly affected? And guess what, immediately they began to fight for them all. Thank you for covering this, and don’t let anyone stop you… And certain people in these prisons are so corrupt it’s not funny.

I just wanted to say this is very, very true! Unfortunately, I was incarcerated in a Pennsylvania state prison for about 3 years. Yes, I was guilty, and yes, I deserved to do my time. During that time, I worked in the state kitchen for quite some time. The boxes the "meat" come in, say not for human consumption. Things are very dated. There are rats running through the whole kitchen. Also, the elderly and sick get treated horrible. There was this very elderly lady in my housing unit and was starting to loose her mind, they treated her awful and were so abusive. She finally passed away in her cell. And it was from neglect on their part. The people with mental health people my heart goes out for. They have no idea how to truly help and take care of these humans, and they get stuck there because they will get wrote up all the time for different things and they will be in episodes and not medicated properly. Something definitely needs to be done for all institutions. We live in the United States of America and it's shameful. I know some people will say , well don't do anything wrong and or you deserve that. They are humans regardless and people deserve real food and proper medical and to not get abused. People go to jail for abuse, what does that teach those people? If you advertise authority it's OK? We are I'm America and you wouldn't think so in our jails. Edit.. also people are saying why care about some rich person complaining ect, it doesnt matter if your rich or poor or what color or gender you are everyone deserves to be treated fairly. And thankfully because of their popularity maybe they can get farther wwith this then some normal person with out an audience. ❤

Brian you are an incredible reporter. My favorite reporter! I worked for the court system and mentally ill prisoners are not given their psychotropic meds in county jail. The county will only pay for certain psych meds that are the least expensive which are the older meds. They do not purchase the new and better drugs. The mentally ill get worse when they are not properly medicated.

I worked in a State Prison facility for 28 years. I have dealt with Federal Prison issues as part of my position. I hear what Todd is saying about what sounds deplorable and what I am hearing is that the problems he cites are issues that he has "heard about" but not actually seen. There is no way that his facility is as horrible as he describes. Prison facilities are not independent. They all answer to a higher authority. Inspections are done regularly to ensure that food is good. The story he tells about the injured inmate in his dorm, is what he has heard. He would not be privy to medical information regarding another inmate. Just as you and I are not privy to medical information about each other. You absolutely CANNOT believe the extreme stories told by inmates. I am a Chrisley fan and I have nothing against these people but I can assure you that the conditions can't be as bad as Todd describes. Again, most of what he is telling you is hearsay, not fact. Now that's just the truth. Todd is angry. I would be too but he is trying to cause a ruckus for the prison system. Emails are scanned and monitored to ensure that all is legal but not held as punishment. I don't know about the tuna amounts in the commissary but that would be up to Admin staff and the reason could be that the can't access as much as they did. Regarding access to the prison itself, there is a procedure. Not everyone get's in because not everyone follows correct procedure or they may not fit the correct criteria. You cannot assume that the prison is corrupt because YOU didn't get in. I'm sure that facility is not perfect but I don't think for a second that it is as bad as Todd describes...after all, he is repeating what he hears from other inmates. None of whom want to be there.

“We the people “ pay the taxes for all of these prisons- the folks who are staying there are human beings that deserve to have basic necessities; food, hygiene needs and bedding. The is ZERO excuse for expired food!!! Our government needs to be called out for that!! Retaliation is UNACCEPTABLE as well!! What if this was your family member????

As a former relation of a prisoner, I heard firsthand the conditions these inmates deal with. I was a victim of harassment after lodging a formal complaint against a warden whose sister and wife also worked in the administration section of the same prison ( nepotism much). Letters never arrived, money orders disappeared, phone calls were cut off, and visits cancelled. I was followed home, atvs revved up and down outside my property at 2 am. The more one trys to bring to light the terrible conditions and treatment the worse the retaliation. I am not a fan of Todd Chrisley at all but I do believe what he is saying. Its all too familiar to me.

For those saying they did the crime, for just a minute forget the name associated with this story and just listen to the details of what’s being reported and then imagine if you or family made one bad decision/mistake tomorrow… Let alone the fact that the investigators were able to lie and there was proof just shows you their no better but becz of their role they can get away with it and you don’t stand a chance! Then once your in you get expired food(what little you do get) and as you age and start to have serious health issues, oh well, to bad, you’ll have to suffer. Listening to him tell about the elderly gentleman that fell and they basically said oh well was beyond sad.

They do not give medicine in prison. My brother was in a federal prison for 27 yrs. and yes it is that bad. He had to have 2 teeth pulled and they did it with very little medicine. He was not completely numb and was given Tylenol for pain. He also had his neck sliced from ear to ear less than 1/4 inch from main artery. That was sewed up without 😊. There was so much stuff that was inhuman. You better believe that they will do what they need too to keep him quiet.

It’s all true according to a family member that is in the correction department in Florida. He contracted Tuberculosis in jail and they refused medical care. They refused to isolate sick inmates so many contracted TB. Now he’ll have it for life. Plus everything else that was said, he has experienced it all.

It's not just federal prison state prison. My son who is disabled before they sentenced him the jail wouldn't let him have his hearing aids so he had to plea without his hearing aids then when he got to prison they took his seizure medicine away we have to pay for his medical care. My son bought thermals and boxers they took them from him. the ADA can only help so much. This is in Utah. May God help us all Amen

This problem is not exclusive to that prison. My daughter was a psychologist in a prison and I have done some volunteer work at a jail. The way the prisoners are treated is atrocious. All food is labeled "not fit for human consumption" and expired. The mold and lack of cleaning supplies make the physical state of the prisons no better than during the Middle Ages. I am not exaggerating. Many ppl say "don't do the crime if you can't do the time". That is so ignorant. There are ppl held in jails that have not been convicted of anything. Also, these ppl still need to be treated like humans.

There were many days, when my daughter worked in a temporary capacity at a jail that housed 350 ppl, that there were only 4 officers working. They were so short-handed. It was also common that the inmates were not allowed to go out for rec for over weeks at a time because not enough officers working.

No one is going to really understand what they are going through until they experience the trauma themselves. Walk a mile in their shoes! I've worked in facilities where we were trained how to deal with riots and self-defense-type things and were basically threatened NOT to be nice to those "incarcerated." The thought process was to scare the prisoners straight so they never want to return. However, many return because it's the first time in their life that there is some stability. Everything Savannah said brought back memories of what I saw with the nasty food, mold, filth, and lack of medical care. She's absolutely right! Humanity is most important! NO ONE should ever be tortured in prison! Prison is forcing someone to lose their freedom. That's it. Not to be put in dangerous, potentially fatal situations.

Sadly prisons and jails have treated prisoners like this for ages and ages. In America. Watch Larry Lawton, his channel talks about how bad prisons are, he was in Federal prison too. It's overdue for a state, private and federal prisons to have a huge overhaul. Keep reporting and never stop until there's change for the better.

If we can give other countries Trillions of dollars that is reportedly not being properly accounted for. Then it is apparent that we should crack down on this problem, cut back on spending on other countries/wars government waste, and start allocating more funds for better prison food, facility maintenance and health care. On a separate note, It would also be nice if our federal government could allocate more funding for the non-prison elderly care (i.e. seniors with dementia) there is a TREMENDOUS need here!

How do the employees that work in the prison system sleep at night? The corruption seems so massively deep, their human resources department probably hires bad people, people they know who will go along with the program. The US just keeps digging deeper holes in all aspects of the government that are now impossible to repair.

My brother wasn’t in prison but he was in jail over here in Fort Worth. They practically starve them. They are not allowed to even go outside and get any sun and that in itself is bad for the body ! They get no vitamin D3 and that can cause so many problems with the immune system and cause depression and high anxiety! My brother lost several pounds and I went to visit him I heard a young man talking to his father who was visiting him talking thru the glass he said “ dad they don’t even allow us to go outside there is no outside area we can’t work out all we do is stay in here and he told him that they barely get any food my brother confirmed that. Sad. And they’re are lots of really bad gang members in there!

If you read the last page of any prison or jail handbook, it says "These rules are subject to change at any time, for any reason" so it doesnt matter what the DOC handbook says, they can change the rules anytime they want without notification.
