If you're studying the psychology of a stalker, this can be a really good case. He's literally explaining the mentality of a stalker, it's crazy how accurate all the "symptoms" are.
@aewtx Жыл бұрын
I can understand the questions he posed, about why it's considered stalking when he likes her. In his mind, as is with everyone else's definition, stalking is bad. But he thinks he's non-threatening because he likes her, which people like to be liked, so he thinks that's a good thing. But when you've been blocked, it's obvious they don't like your attention, you've crossed the line from just liking and into creepy, and YET you still persist, that's STALKING. And he's upset that she's causing him heartache. Well, everyone's gone through breakups. Difference is when someone breaks up with you, you deal with it, and not by harassing them, not by bothering them, which is what pushes it into stalking territory. You move on. You understand you can't force someone to be with you. And no, mental help will not cure this. It will only suppress it until they're in a relationship and the person breaks up with them. In the meantime they're in the relationship, they're controlling and most likely abusive. And when their partner wants to leave, that's when they will likely either murder them or do a murder/suicide. Because this isn't about loving them. This is about controlling them.
@alexwyatt29119 ай бұрын
@@aewtx The only way to “understand the questions he posed” is if you completely disregard the concept of consent. I cringe so much every time I witness a dude talking as though their interest in a woman is the only factor to consider. Is it really that difficult to remember that women are actual people with their own autonomy, desires, and thoughts?

‼️‼️Stalker victims please listen up‼️‼️NEVER refer to them as “MY stalker.” These people want to be associated with you in any way, shape or form. Call them “THE stalker.” Do not make them feel noticed. I know it sounds counterintuitive but if it hasn’t reached physical levels of stalking or threats of real life violence, don’t respond. I know it’s almost impossible to just ignore it, but whatever you do, do not let this person know you saw anything. You will want to document everything for yourself, but giving them that validation, urges them to continue because they know they can get a response. Obviously this isn’t the case for everyone, but a good majority will just give up eventually. If not, take all the evidence you’ve been building up, and report it to law enforcement. May or may not help, but you have to make a report regardless. Leave a paper trail. God forbid something does happen, you at least reached out for help and law enforcement was aware.

9:05 That's the problem with many films. The lovable protagonist falls in love with his "dream girl" and thinks that she has to think the same way about him. After many rejections she finally gives him a chance and the film ends... These films perpetuate the idea that being insisting will win you the woman and can turn a "no" into a "yes".
@mdragarg4 жыл бұрын
I also like how these movies make it out that women are gems of sort and you have to do something to prove that you're good enough for them. I mean they are perfect by existing, but you have to achieve something good in addition to just being yourself.
@maxfieldstanton54114 жыл бұрын
50 no's and a yes mean yes. Realistic rejections and indifference aren't well depicted in media. You rarely see people ghosting each other and the like. One of the only exceptions I can think of is Taxi Driver, where his date ghosts him and he becomes a literal murderer as a result. That movie was ahead if its time.
@SWIFTO_SCYTHE4 жыл бұрын
Romance movies are fake as hell. The notebook - the creepy stalker hanga by one hand off a ferris wheel begging her to go out with him... while she is on a date with her date. And if she says no he lets go and dies thats fucking pathetic. If a girl says no man up and find another jeezus.
@simonhanson7954 жыл бұрын
Thats because so many creepy predators work within the industry.
@Unknown-hb3id4 жыл бұрын
A lot of romance media is usually really bad a portraying a healthy relationship and how to go about seeking one. It goes both for girls and guys. Guys are always told to keep pushing and pushing even when they say no, and they're told that the girl they're looking for is going to be perfect and "the one" no matter the circumstances. Girls are told to try and make themselves physically perfect through any means, and the guy they're supposed to look for is going to be perfect, strong, handsome, and will sacrifice everything they have for their "lady" no matter what. Girls get too high of expectations for themselves and their future spouse. Guys get told to constantly push for a relationship to an unhealthy degree. It's pretty bad all around, but everyone should already know not to take such serious advice from movies.

@mikesanders86215 жыл бұрын
This comment is more important than people seem to think. Societal expectations are heavily influenced by the media the population is consuming, and as of right now, the most popular forms of media all seem to glorify self obsession, and set unrealistic or unhealthy standards of how you should look/think/behave based on what demographic you happen to occupy. Either that or I think too hard about the wrong things. Who knows.

Completely agreed. Not to mention that in the very same film, The Notebook, there's a scene where the guy climbs onto a Ferris wheel cart the girl is in and threatens to jump to his death unless she agrees to go out with him. Genuinely sickening stuff that is somehow passed off as romantic.
@TheTomray945 жыл бұрын
The problem isn't media itself, its lack of socialization coupled with overconsumption of media. I was quite similar to these sorts of people when I was 13. I was very shy and couldnt speak to women, so any thoughts on how women "behaved" came from movies, games etc. These people need to interact with women more often, easiest way is by getting genuine female friends not this "we are friends cause I have a crush but I am to afraid to tell her so I decieve her instead" Crap.

I think it's actually because we act as if the foundation of a relationship is immense amounts of care and affection rather than an actual connection between two people. Nice guys think that just by being kind and showing affection to a woman they should automatically get loved, because they think relationships are just endless pits of kindness. In reality, people pick people they are interested in based on common interests and personalities, not ones that try to be nice. Why would anyone want to date someone with no life, hobbies or personality outside of being a decent person.

The mature thing to do is just block them and move on with your life, dont see why you people dont understand this the only thing you are doing by contacting their parents is giving their words meaning because you are not ignoring it if you just ignore it it does not matter what they say because you are not giving them the time of day yeah telling their parents might get them in trouble but it will also show them that you cared about what they said which is exactly what they wanted when they sent the msg this is like Bullying 101 was I the only kid who got bullied enough in school to figure this out or what?

great video, however, I feel like that comment made at 14:46 "how would you feel if your girlfriend found someone she likes more than you? that's how I feel" gets a little overlooked. everytime I rewatch this video, that specific line always makes my blood boil a bit. he's just so incredibly delusional that he feels a genuine sense of loyalty, which is to say entitlement, from her, and the fact that he's comparing this "betrayal" to a real mutual relationship pisses me off. i actually know what it's like to be with someone and they found someone they like better, and while I was still only young, I know how much that can hurt. it can make you really insecure, making you completely doubt any self-value, and just generally hurt from that betrayal from someone who you let yourself be vulnerable with. he has absolutely no right to pretend that he's going through that process. obviously, his self entitlement is blatantly clear from everything else he says, I don't think that needs to be emphasized anymore than it is, but this specific line just gets me so pissed. as if he has any right to feel that anger and suffering from a woman who doesn't know anything about him, she doesn't even know his goddam name. and the fact that he frames it as "how would you feel" is just so incredibly smug and condescending, as if he has the right to talk down to a single person who "doesn't understand his pain", putting it on the other person for being so "insensitive" to how her response hurt him. and fucking like no one else has known heartbreak like he does, that anyone else's possible relationships aren't as legitimate is his with her. i know this whole situation is years old and from what we know, the guy is over this, but still, really pisses me off.
@jasperjazzie Жыл бұрын
same here, and it's amplified by the fact that he doesn't even know her i mean, it's not like it'd be more justifiable if it was someone he was close to in real life, obviously, but the fact that it's a complete and total stranger just makes it so much worse to me he might think he knows her, but he doesn't, all he knows is the idealized gamer girl he built in his mind and what's shown on the screen how much do you wanna bet people like him would lose interest if they got to know the real her? in this situation i doubt it just because he's so absolutely dead set in an insane way,, but i feel like people who idealize and obsess over who they see on the screen would feel differently if they knew who was actually behind the screen
@aewtx Жыл бұрын
No, I took that as he was trying to make them relate to him. But the thing is though, normal people, even as they're hurting, do not continue to bother that person. They handle their heartbreak away from that person. They understand that once they've been dumped, they no longer welcome and there are boundaries. Stalkers ignore those boundaries.

In my opinion, what gives birth to the Elliot Rodgers and darylprats of this world is society's warped and unrealistic idea of relationships. There are a lot of pop culture stuff and internalized notions with the youth, especially straight men, that actually encourage "creepiness" and steamrolling over the topic of "no" or consent. Or the peer pressure and bullying related to overtly hypersexualized culture, like "haha virgin" or not having a "body count" at high school. I can't tell you how much I almost was pushed into borderline incel territory multiple times through depression by the simple fact that my peers couldn't handle the fact i was single and really didn't feel like partnering. The amount of guilt and shame induced by their bullying still hasn't completely gone to this day either. Now even thinking about any kind of linking up just gives me trauma and disappointment because I was nearly an extremist because of all I went through, the crime of just being "single" to them. Life's not like 500 Days Of Summer or the Notebook. The overemphasis on relationships being the only end goal of true happiness poisons a lot of young minds into thinking that finding the "one" will magically solve every problem in their lives. It breeds into a circlejerk of jealousy , hatred and depression if it's forced upon you. Love is to be found naturally and in its due course, not shoved in your face simply because it's a societal and biological obligation you have to achieve at any means necessary.

I had a stalker situation to this. A girl started texting me as if she had the wrong number at first and then started a friendly conversation. We talked for a while because she seemed nice but then I realized she knew that I was a redhead even tho I’d never mentioned it.. she let a few other things slip that I had def never told her and I eventually realized she had been stalking me for months before somehow getting my number and working up the nerve to text me. I called her out and she came clean saying she was in love with me and such. I later spoke to a girl she knew who said How she’d been telling people we were dating. She even knew the names of my family and pets and I suspect she had maybe even been outside my house.... this kind of thing is super unsettling. She texted and called me over and over again non stop till I blocked her her but she just switched to another phone to spam me on. I eventually changed my phone number and threatened to get a restraining order... apparently she even had pictures of me in her room and as her screensavers......... super freaky this was a very condensed version of my story. I clicked on this video because I recognized Alanah's face in the thumbnail! I met her on tumblr almost a decade ago, before she ever even started up her journalism career. We got to be pretty close friends. :) Unfortunately, a lot went wrong in my life all at once, and I dropped contact, failing to follow up in any particularly meaningful way. I supported her on Patreon, KZbin, and Twitch for a bit, but then decided I was probably just clinging to an ideal of what I imagined our friendship was, and stopped doing so. She seemed to have moved on, based on her responses to my comments on both aforementioned platforms, and though she remembered me, I figured letting her go was for the best. I do miss our friendship, and I'm glad she's done so well for herself since we parted ways. It's disheartening to see someone I personally knew affected in this way by someone who is so clearly mentally unwell, but the fact of the matter is, it's really not all that uncommon for women on the internet to experience. I hope unhealthy and abusive relationship portrayals stop being so pervasive in pop culture, and that we see individuals like this receive the help they very much need. I think that, in order to attain this, the negative stigma attached to seeking help for mental/emotional health problems would need to dissipate, so, consider this comment encouragement for exactly that: If you're not doing okay, or you personally know someone who is not, please reach out and do what you can to spread that (self-)awareness, and be treated. Best of luck to all of you, and to Alanah, as well.

People just love to blame the victim of the stalkers, especially if thats a woman. We’re meant to fix our stalkers and “help them” No, they need to fix themselves end of.
@aravindkrishna20434 жыл бұрын
Dude, you seem to be in a position of indifference. I can understand that. I’m not mentally ill either and originally, I had trouble empathising with these people too. If we’re to look down at mentally ill people (yes, that includes the criminals who are mentally ill, such as stalkers, serial killers, serial rapists, murderers, and the like), then we ignore the problem and act as though it’s all up to them to fix it. This strategy didn’t work for all this time. We gave it a shot, now here’s my alternative proposal: We help them. We created the society in which they fell into this pit that they aren’t able to get out of. We help them out of it. We, as a society, created the romantic movies that these people watched that led them to think that this was reality. We, as a society, created the lack of empathy towards the mentally disturbed that led them further down a path of darkness. Yes, not everyone watching The Notebook will come to the same conclusion as u/darylprat. But at the same time, those people do exist and will continue to exist. We, as a society, need to be aware that some people have mental disturbances that are primed by the small societal stimuli that we let off. A single bad day could send someone spiraling into, delusion, paranoia, rage and violence. That someone could be just like you or me. They could walk, talk and dress the same way as you or me. But deep inside, they are holding on by a thread. The same bad day does not affect all three of us in the same way. For this reason, I’ll ask you to be a bit more empathetic. Fix our mentally ill, and I mean all of the mentally ill. Fix our stalkers, murderers, serial killers, serial rapists, rapists and arsonists and the like, because they can’t fix themselves.

Depends on the type. One like darylprat are quite narcissistic. There are ones however who dont initially know who they are stalking they just like the psychopathic thrill of finding every single detail of a person.
@chtholly80845 жыл бұрын
Not really. Most stalkers I've heard about it do it because they're infatuated with the person they are stalking. They don't stalk them because they think they're better than anyone else, they stalk them because they are mentally ill and view the source of their obsession as the 'cure'. Most likely, if someone ever did get with the person stalking them for whatever reason, the stalker would eventually find out that it does nothing to help them mentally, and they'd probably turn violent and abusive. In fact, I'd wager that most stalkers don't even think about themselves in the equation which is why they often resort to threatening to kill themselves if they're constantly rejected. No narcissist would ever threaten to kill themselves because somebody who is legitimately a narcissist would view their life as too important a thing to use as a bargaining chip. They'd instead threaten violence upon their victim or people related to their victim.

I've said that a million times. A lot of those popular romance movies are actually creepy as hell if you swap out the heartthrob male lead. It really seems like Daryl was some dumb teen or young adult, so we can safely throw out the obituary of the 54 y/o married man. I imagine he developed this obsession out of a total misunderstanding of romance that comes from Hollywood stories and the impatience of puberty. Now, this just explains his actions, obviously stalking, especially to this extent, is wrong, but I'm thinking positively here and just hoping the dude grew up and put a brain in his skull. Maybe he is still out there keeping this up, or maybe he just learned better. Him being so young also tells me exactly why he would name all of his alts the same thing: he's not competent with this sort of thing and didn't think that people would be able to follow the bread trail. Remember, not every creep is a criminal mastermind.
@aewtx Жыл бұрын
I can see why you think they're a teenager, but I doubt it. One, these online predators tend to be older. Two, people with this kind distorted image of "romance" to think stalking is desirable is stunted mentally. I'm not talking retarded, but that they were so inexperienced romantically that they don't know what is unacceptable.

There is also the movement "healthy at every size" which continues to use the excuse that for certain people, its extremely hard to attain an average weight.
