New guy here. Thumbs up to your channel. I looked in my closet the other day and I had about 4 brand new CB units in original boxes sitting lonely in there. I guess at a certain point in time I was very interested in CB and Ham radio and suddenly I just got interested in other things. LOL. And you know what those other things were. No, not girls. It was TCP IP and computers. I been meaning to set up one of my CB`s again and raise some more hell. KD6CFE was here. 73`s.

That's definitely a good idea for off grid communication. I'm going to try the same thing . I have a Jackery I use for camping and a couple of A99s here I can hopefully make into one good antenna. My plan is to somehow make a mount I can clamp in the roof rack on the Avalanche to attach the antenna then power the radio with the Jackery and solor panel. Awesome video .Take care. 514 Ontario Canada

That sounds like something you could easily do! It doesn’t take that large of a solar panel to run a radio, So you can mount one about this size and you should be good! I can’t wait to see the photos, and hear the results

@@JohnnyNJones I'm working on it. Between work and storms theres not much time for anything.

Did you cook your finals with to much voltage? Why didn't you charge a car battery from the solar panel, then run the CB from it. 14.2 - 14.5V to charge the battery. Use hefty diodes in series to drop the voltage. You could use a big voltage dropping resistor from an old Valve/tube radio, they are the big wire-wound resistors with taps for various voltages. They may get hot, but for all the voltage you want to drop, use diodes in series, or a regulator. Heatsink, then V in neutral V out, you might need small capacitors from each leg to neutral. Pick the one nearist the voltage you want. For wind power, fit an alternator to a homemade propeller, smokin" 🙃

The voltage coming out of the charge controller is about 12 to 13 V But there’s a lot of fluctuation because the charge controller is pulsing 20 volts to try to maintain 14 volts It’s not a great set up to run a Radio It’s a way better set up to hook to a battery. But sometimes you have to do things the silly way so you can get more views on your videos 👍 And proving that I can run a CB radio simply off the power of the sun I thought would be appealing enough for a video Once I get the entire set up finished there should be no noise on the line, I’ll hook the solar charger up to a battery and then make sure the power is filtered before it gets to the Radio That’s actually a pretty cool idea with the alternator I can make a bicycle powered Radio 😆
