As a Habs fan, I think the crazy thing about Cole is how fast he learns and adapts to wherever he’s playing. Seeing how well he played defensively and how he could also be a playmaker really cemented my belief that he’s a top line winger already and he can handle whatever’s thrown at him. If he can still put up goals and points against the best teams in the playoff, imagine what he can do in a full regular season?

Let me put it in some context for some of you. The ducks had just gone to game 6 with the preds while having an extremely injured squad. They believed their window was still open for at least one more year. The ducks had montour, petterson, vatanen, Manson, lindholm, and fowler. They thought montour would be the superior player so they let Theodore go for scraps. It seems stupid and the trade is stupid. If Murray hasn’t gaven NMCs like candy the ducks could’ve still had Theodore

Sam Bennett might be another huge Calgary mistake if his initial time in Florida is any indication after being traded this year. Number 4 overall pick in 2014 , and he was used as a 3rd and 4th line player by the Flames. In 10 games after joining Florida ... 6 goals , 9 assists ... and 5 points in 5 playoff games.

Great video BUT I’m going to need to point out. Rob Ramage wasn’t a bottom 6 grinder. He was one of the Blues top defenseman. This trade helped win Calgary a Stanley Cup. It was the typical prospect for proven talent trade you see near the deadline. At first it was a win for Calgary but in the long run it was a win for St Louis. Also don’t discount the impact Adam Oates had on Brett Hull. Oates could be in part 2 of this video, he was an assist machine in college then went undrafted and traded away for an established veteran in Bernie Federko.

Markus Nasland is another prospect that proves having a slow start does not project to future years. He was not very good in Pittsburg, but was much better in Vancouver. And then he slowed down again when the coach changed to a more defensive system. There's more to the formula than the prospects talent and work ethic. It's worth revisiting Caufield since he was awful under Ducharme and has been brilliant under St. Louis - in the same season. A coach can really affect this a lot. In many ways, it's out of the player's control if a coach can have that much influence over a prospect's success.

Love your videos Rob, but as a Blues fan I gotta disagree on that Hull trade being "worst trade ever" material. Sure, it was absolutely lopsided a year after, but Rob Ramage was essential to Calgary in the playoffs and basically slid into Gary Suter's spot as a top pairing defenseman and power play QB when Suter broke his jaw in the opening round against the Canucks. Who knows if they win the Cup that year without him. I'd compare it more to a trade like Iginla for Nieuwendyk where one team that's on the cusp of a Stanley Cup gives up a future superstar for that missing piece to help push them over the top.

The Theodore narrative is BS. I'm from Seattle and saw a lot of him as a T-Brid. Yes, he has great offense (so does/did Barrie, Karlsson and Shattenkirk) but he skated like a 12 year old in his own end. Just brutal in his defensive game. He's worked his ass off to improve, but at the time he was not even close to a Norris candidate. His upside was as a one dimensional blueliner.

They say he has a legitimate shot at the Rocket Richard Award for Most Goals. However, I can't see that happening. He kind of of hangs around his wing and waits for another Montreal Canadiens player to dig the puck out of the corner and pass it to Cole. He'll be turning 22 yrs old on January 2nd and he's just a kid still. Let's see if he can win the Rocket Richard Award for Most Goals.

seeing this after the 2022 season im pretty sure the habs have their 25th cup coming with Caufield and Suzuki IF and only IF they fill the other holes like 1st D, no1 G (very soon), and a shutdown line. if they can fill these holes.....ho boy its gonna be fun. Also im pretty sure Suzuki is the next captain. why not Gallagher? just like royalty does sometimes, its gonna skip a generation ;)

Anyone remember Ryan Poehling? A hattrick in his first game. Let's not get carried away with what Caufield has done in a few games. He was -3 in last nights game. We'll see what happens in an 82 game season. Anything before that is premature.

@@raurymauk We'll see how he stands up playing 82 games. He's very aware out there but he'll get caught. Just a matter of time. Once he get's caught the chances are he'll become more timid. So far he's been relatively fearless. It's a lot easier to be that way after only a few games.

Yeah, Caufield is the one guy we better fight for. Already that it's infuriating Bergevin didn't pay 500k more to keep Danault in, they better fight for Cole. I don't know if for him the Canadiens are his best place to be for his skills to flourish and become even greater, but I think every habs fan would despise the organization if they ever let him go.

He’s obviously got talent, but if he’s going to meet his full potential Montreal is going to have to do a much better job in building a team around him. Look at price, a generational talent in net but he never really had an amazing team in front of him, and seasons like this one right now shows how much Montreal relies on him.
