Being an Alaskan, Scott Gomez is the hockey god up here. He was the first Latino NHLer to win the Calder as Rookie of the year and 2 cups. He has his own hockey organization in Anchorage for lower income households that may not be able to afford hockey, along with sponsoring and funding countless youth hockey and other sporting activities across Alaska. Just a great guy which made it harder to see him struggle after leaving NYR.

Im a big fan of the 90s NHL, and I can tell you 1 trade that I will always remember kinda ruining player instantly: Mikhael Renberg from Philly to Tampa Bay. He was part of that legendary trio with Lindros and Leclair, and then he was just gone, and he didn't do much in Tampa. Sad knowing a few years later, 2 I believe, Brind'Amour also got traded. Poor flyers, 6 straight stanley cup finals appearances were losses... and a ton of other near finals appearences and great seasons ruined in the last 47 years.

He only struggled in his last year with Nashville-in the very same year he was traded. I wager New Jersey thought he could rebound to at least be a solid top four if not have a full on resurgence. At the price they paid, it wasn't a bad gamble. Unfortunately, mounting injuries caught up with PK way faster than expected and he just couldn't adapt his game to play around them in a more serviceable role.

I would have to put Wendel Clark being traded away from Toronto the first time being one that also ruined his career. If you was around back then, After he left Toronto, he pretty much disappeared from most news media; at least in Canada. He never got better anywhere except that one year he did come back to Toronto. Jim Carey winning the Vezina really bummed me out, I honestly think it's the reason Osgood might never get in the hall of fame, that and losing that game 6 and 7 in 2009, which Osgood put a 2.00 GAA in those games by the way and the dead wings couldnt score on Fleury. But yeah, 39-6-5. No way Detroit gets that record without Osgood, and yes Vernon is a legend, and he also honestly should be in the hall for starting for 2 cup winning teams, just like Osgood did for 2 of his 3 cups. But yeah, knowing how much of a waste that was, hurts as an Osgood fan. I think the 5 finals and 3 cups, AND still having a winning record the 3 seasons off of Detroit, making the Islanders better especially, and being 1 of the first 10 men ever to win 400 games in an era where goalies split time a lot still... someday he might get in. But they don't seem to put many great goalies in. A guy like Luongo getting in made me fucking sick, maybe after 10 years him being in would be ok but, never won the cup and you got Moog Osgood Vernon Barrasso Richter and the Beezer and Cujo not in? fuckin a.
@plaidchuck Жыл бұрын
Wow Luongo got in? What a joke. Dude was a bum in any nhl game that mattered and barely got a gold medal while being on a stacked olympic team. Lindros shouldnt be in either. There were plenty of power forwards back in the day that dominating a few seasons and you dont see them getting in. Agreed Osgood should be in. Im a Pens fan and they probably would have lost if so many Wings weren’t injured. Joseph also should be in. Guy was undrafted and was consistent as hell despite being on some garbage teams over the years.
@Moneytakerbaby Жыл бұрын
@@plaidchuck Hall of fames definitely are,,, sus at times. But it is what it is right! It doesnt change who was great and who wasn't. Hockey, like Basketball Football and Baseball, are sports that you can be the best without team success. You can be like Marcel Dionne, be a god at the game, yet you're never on great teams so, you never have a chance to win titles. Luongo however had chances, and he choked. Him and the Sedins are terribly overrated to an extent. Like they got to play with eachother their entire careers,,,, such an advantage, yet at best they were D tier 'legends' as far as ranking them as legends. I'd have put someone like Theoren Fleury or Alexander Mogilny who somehow aren't in yet in before them. Ultra talented guys who there's absolutely no excuse why they aren't in yet. They didn't play as long in the NHL as they could have yet when they did, always were solid. I'd put those 2 in over at least a dozen of the guys who've got in this millennium.
