This very cool, there is a French company that does something similar called SteadXP. Ive though about this a lot to use a Gopro mounted on top of a DSLR. You could say do three claps so the software could auto sync the two files via audio. In the SteadXP they have a camera/lens configuration software, you have to shoot a grid, it also has an automatic degree calculator. I´d have bought the SteadXP by now if it didn´t require an audio socket input on your camera.

Reelsteady Go relies on Gopros lens geometry, FOV, sensor size and so on , footage from "split-type" cameras, BMCC5K, DJI or even cine cams nedds to be post processed to get a useable RSgo result. I have this same idea when rsgo was released and ask the FVP cam companies if they can include gyros in their "HD Split cams". And sure enough Rsgo was bought by Gopro. But here it is. That's what i'm looking for, inject gyro data on non-gopro footage or use rsgo on hero 5 and 7 effectively as 6 and 8. Will it work on hero 5 black? and is it possible to upload the hero 7/5 footage you have so that i can see if i can replicate what you have before purchasing a hero 5 black or session 5 (its much cheaper to get than hero 6) Hope you can answer on my request.
@nicecrash4 жыл бұрын
Ummagawd ( tommy) was also doing that but no one cared at that point...RSgo will not accept random mp4 files if you don't provide all the meta data...depending on lens, FOV, sensor size etc. RSgo will have no idea what to do with the video data, so there is more work to do. I have sample data, but we're low light and low res...I plan to shoot a step by step how-to and therefore I want to show hero 7 and Session 5. You can tweak the metadata with opensoirce tools like exiftool ( to generate hero 6 and firmware information...GPMF etc.) If you want, you can join the discord ...there is good information around...link is in the description !

Hey Dario, sorry that this video doesn't provide all the information that is needed to use it like a tutorial. You're totally right ! In this case, GoPro and FC orientation need to be the same, the GoPro sensor is calibrated go be leveled when the Cam sits flat on a table - Display and table surface are 90° to each other. Now Flight FC and GoPro are oriented the same. You can also try to use the other tool called BlackboxTogpmf, that is able to compensate for camera angle in the GUI...you just need to know your precise cam angle.

BTW why is it a need for 2nd FC for blackbox log. Whats wrong with the main FC doing the logging?
@TyzaGFPV3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that the gyro data on the main fc will show differently to which angle the GoPro is mounted why the second fc is needed to be mounted with the GoPro to give true gyro data needed for the software to merge with the footage. This is just a shot in the dark and I'm truly no expert...just sharing the possibility of my thoughts 🤔
@nicecrash3 жыл бұрын
Sorry i missed that one - we have no way to reliably compensate the difference in orientation, for the workflow it's also handy to have the cam as one unit with variable angle and the option to add gyro filtering for for the second FC that may not be beneficial for a flight FC.
@nicecrash3 жыл бұрын
The idea to use other cams and those also without a "drone attached" also would have this type of hardware arrangements, therefore we try to develop hardware that is easier to place on a camera and that will identify the orientation relative to the camera sensor in software dynamically. But that's a hard task to be honest 😜🤞

How do you get the 2nd flight controller to record black box data?
@nicecrash3 жыл бұрын
Hey, sorry for the late reaction...i use the TX from crossfire to bridge from main FC to logging FC - so both FC listen to the same CRSF commands...than i set up a free aux channel as arm switch on the recording FC. Than i can arm the FCs seperatly. But you can also set the FC to record Blackbox on power ..than it starts recording when you power the FC...5V should be enough and a little switch in that line makes an easy on/of recording workflow.

Jep, that was also one idea that powered me...as short info, the 2nd FC is in parallel with the hero display in the back, hard mounted to the tpu mount ( stiffer mount means better data ) . The 2nd FC is powered on 5V via lipo-in-pad from my main FC. I bridge the crsf TX ( rx pad on main FC ) to the end FC to get it listening to crsf. Than I can use a separate aux switch to arm the 2nd FC ( 180 arming angle - meet to be in 0 throttle to arm ). I press the aux switch and the rec button on the GoPro simultaneously to start and than to stop after landing. Calibration in the configurator is easy, partition the hero with the mount+fc in the back to be in flat - hero bottom parallel to flat surface of your.desk) Than correct the board alignment..like pitch 90° and yaw 90° or some like that.. calibrate the acc to be levelled in that *0" position . Hope that gives a quick overview 😉✌️

Yes, right now there is no Funktion to correct this offset in Blackbox2gpmf...but there is a a solution on the table that we need to check out - the concept "1 unit - everything moves together" is the most simple way and doesn't have many downsides... especially for testing. The way to mount the FC parallel to the display and set up everything like I did for the video is that I wanted a versatile solution that fits for all my quads and test applications. There is no need to have it positioned or orientated like the GoPro IMU hardware cause you can use quaternions to rotate the gyro data in software afterwards...to keep it simple, we used beta/EMU configurator for that, the reason my board orientation is more convince and protection and less physically/mechanically needed. @@topcatgc1 Oh, you nailed it - i bet part of the discussion will be sensors in motors...after i have seen this KO motors on TBS lounge i guess performance and efficiency will be a big topic ..after we all hopefully run a HD FPV link of some sort without killing each other first... ;-)

Great worksbuds ! Why does it just work with emu?
@nicecrash4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man - it works with all fc that can do Blackbox ... basically all the input that Blackbox Explorer understands...have not tested kiss + openlagger but in general it should work.

First of all, this is a really good job that will help me to sort the gp5 gyro issues and use rsgo, many thanks! I just wanted to suggest that it might be interesting to add some sort of 1d signal alignment algorithm to get rid of the manual alignment procedure like the one shown here: github.com/pearsonkyle/Signal-Alignment

Amazing job, smart people.... but have absolutely no idea on how to even start doing this. Is there like a tutorial? So Github.... OK? I am on mac too so yeah....

Hey Martjin, you can try starting with this video and maybe join the discord if you want to ask questions or talk about it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIbSdmRrnd97mK8 There is also a tool called BlackboxTOgpmf that offers a slightly different toolset . If you plan to use Hero7 and a 2nd Fc or blackboxrexorder attached to the Gopro, the blackbox2gpmf tool makes the most sense . There is also a version arround that allows to change camera angle and even some with filtering function. I think we can find what you need !
