Technically... he didn't get "Beat out" he got benched in the Title game, Tua came in, played good, and won... so Saban dubed him the new starter.. if they would have went into the following season as a open competition... Jalen would have beat out Tua hands down

Not true he got beat out by a better player so the coach did not give up on him any coach is going to put the better quarterback in to be the starter so he never gave up on him the coach's responsibility is to put the best player on the field in the best position so the team could win and that's what he did and if you don't know who the better quarterback was then you did not see the national championship against Georgia so I suggest you go back and you look at the first half with Jalen starting and then the second half with tua

So, coach lets him waste two seasons as a starter who couldn't perform as a passer against the better teams. Then, coach goes and hires Dan Enos from somewhere to come to Bama to be Hurts' QB coach. It paid off later that season when Tua suffered a double ankle roll vs UGA in cinf title game. Then he goes off to OU where awaited an even better QB coach in Riley. And he improves so much his last two years that he starts in the NFL...something I bet he'd never do. No excuse for Saban not developing this kid from day 1. He was a five -star QB recruit and coach didn't know he had passing issues until after Jalen went 0 for his 12 3rd downs vs Clemson in '16 and couldn't get out of the huddle in 1st half vs UGA in Atlanta the next year. I've said for yrs that coach's handling of Hurts is his worst performance as coach during his amazing tenure here.
