I would love an extra long video of just you being a badass blacksmith, making a knife, a sword, just doing your thing. I think it would be very soothing to have a video like that in the background while I work, or even while I sleep. There was just something so nice about these nighttime blacksmithing shots in particular (1:55) I also like to watch Tested with Adam Savage and he does videos where all he does is just work in his shop in the background and I enjoy having those videos playing as background noise.

Love the intro shots. Western red cedar, western hemlock. I love the tiny soft needles on the hemlock, and their tiny cones. I'm guessing I live withing a few hours south of your spread. I too have a beaver in my backyard, but he does not dress as snappy and never wants to hang out and chat. Ahhh and you have a forge too! (get a shot of your coffee mug warming on a large red-hot chunk of leaf-spring, makes a great pic). edit: Ah, Ok, you're over on Vancouver. So. The next time you cross the border: the Z-recycles scrapyard in Lynden is an excellent place to find materiel for smithing projects, and will even slice you off a section of railroad rail for a small anvil, if needed. The swap meet in Concrete WA on Saturdays in the summer is where I've scored some of my best axe finds, including a Sager Chemical Puget Sound pattern and a lovely full sized hewing broad axe. One of my friends from work ( a loggers daughter) will bring me axes and mauls her family had abused to be re-hung, I still have one where the eye is deliberately off-center to aid in the "twist" to help split the round. Keep collecting, keep splitting, keep the stove going!

Nicole, do you think you would have the tools and skill to create a forged stainless steel knife for your kitchen, I gather its pretty tricky to get the quenching and tempering just right so it won't break but will hold a good edge and would not rust, definitely something you would never want to give away if it turned out well.

@ 2:00 I was thinking about how Max Planck did his original experiment in black body radiation wrong. He had a steel bar heated in a blast furnace like how you heat your blades. That led him to realizing his constant 𝘩 = 6.62607015×10−34 joule-hertz−1 (or Joule-seconds). Isn't it interesting how forging a sword inspires others?

For a couple years after my last deployment I lived with a couple lesbians and a couple...drag queens? Female impersonators ? 2 gay bottoms who performed as women. I was told that lesbian dating always involves a u haul? I miss those days. The kindness extended to me a straight older man ( 33 they were all in their 20s I think. Hard to gage. The "mother " may have been my age or older. I still cherish the memories of those beautiful people getting ready for a night out and the 15 or so ( probably less. There was a rotation along the fridge and a core of 6-10) I was broken in mind and spirit from the horror of what man is capable of and the tremendous Guilt of survival not just among my Devil Dog brethren. But my wife passed from cancer months before I got home so I was completely unprepared to care for my miracle of a Daughter. 8 at the time. These "women" would all gather around the largest bathroom and prepare. The absolute wonder and joy my daughter had watching and participating when opinions were needed and she got to dress up with them and they taught her how to do makeup and were there for her a couple years later when she had her first menstruation. I was as far from their world as anyone could be. I worked with Freedom ( African American gay bottom and performer.) I was looking for a place off base and after some customers were...impolite She asked me to move in with their Fam😂 she had such flare. Huge house on the hill. They brought me back to life...and I found that a lot of women go to gay bars and that for many the lesbian aspect was fluid. Freedom said it was 50% the girls of the couple weren't really gay. That opinion was a VERY EXPLOSIVE and polarizing one. I never bothered to form an opinion. What I remember is joy and sometimes heartbreak. Kindness and a zest for life I'd never witnessed outside of a village in Africa. I love the channel and wish you every success. I am grateful for the reminder. To all; I hope that you and those you care for are happy, healthy, and safe this new year. Semper Fidelis
