Don't forget that older trailers need to have the electrics unplugged before going into the water to stop the cold water blowing the hot bulbs...

I’ve never had that problem in 40 years of boating, but I live in a sub tropical climate.
@chevyon37s10 күн бұрын
That’s a non issue for trailers with modern LED lights. I back my duck boat into skim ice covered water and have never once had a problem. Also even most incandescent light trailers for boats SHOULD have waterproof light housings so water should never touch the bulbs anyway.

Just like a lot of folks, I just got my first boat, and this video is amazingly helpful. It wasn't 30 minutes, it didn't have a lot of steps that were just magically done. You didn't just talk about the steps: you actually demonstrated it. You didn't skip basic stuff that experienced boaters don't think that total beginners would need. I've watched a lot of launching/loading videos and yours is by far the best. Thank you!

If you're going to be docking the boat unattended it's a good idea to use bumpers between the boat and dock. If a big wave comes in it might ding up the hull without them.

PLB For us, stands for (at the ramp)…1/plug. 2/lights(disconnect before backing into water). 3/bathroom, everybody go at the ramp or hold it. Plug, Lights, Bathroom Add yours for your trips but, make it a mantra to have a solid pre system.
@tomd.43 Жыл бұрын
I like your idea of the "PLB" but recommend that it be accomplished while at the parking/boat prep area and not at the launch ramp which prevents other boaters from launching/recovering. Lights and plug won't take long but the bathroom will.

Good video, covers off all the major stuff. Couple of points though ... - After loading, hook the bow safety chain below the winch strap - Double check the boat is fully winched up before rear straps/transom saver go on - If possible drain boat, bilge/livewell as much as you can before leaving the water - Unplug electrical for trailers with bulb lights, not needed with newer LED types Thanks for posting, will pass this vid on to new boaters I meet and have launch questions.

Nice video! Just a suggestion on launching the boat. I noticed that you placed the bow line on the dock without securing it which meant you had to quickly get out of the truck upon launch in order to grab the line because of the possibility of the boat drifting backward and taking off with the line. I suggest that you have a line long enough to reach a cleat or pole on the dock or secure the line to your truck. I have a tie down D ring in the bed of my truck which I use to secure my bow line to using a brass snap swivel connector.

Two things I may add that I do...1. Dont get to close to the dock with the trailer just in case the there is the dock wheel sticking out. Could end up with a broken taillight. 2. I unhook my electrical plug to the trailer before backing into the water. Just in case, hate to short something out. Happy fishing everyone!

Great video except.......don't rely solely on setting the parking brake unless you have a 4wd. Invest in a brake depresser that goes against the steering wheel to keep the brake pedal engaged. Or you might find your truck in the water.

Your RAM already has a 4 pin light plug. It is on top of where your 7 pin plug is. A good tip is never feel with your fingers to determine whether your hitch is actually over the ball.

Isn't there a 4 pin connector above the 7 pin on your truck? That eliminates the need for a 7 pin adapter. Most newer trucks have a 4 and 7 pin connection. It's also good practice to unplug your lights before you submerge them into the water. Less likely to short them out.

Can i please offer some suggestions? As a new boater, you're using a lot of boat lingo. New boaters aren't going to know what "planed" or "trimmed out" mean. I'm having to stop every 30 seconds or so to google some of the boat jargon you're using just so I can kinda grasp what you're saying. If you really did make this video for new boaters wanting to learn, maybe you can explain in the beginning some of the boat jargon you will be using. I just want to learn from a fellow woman boater. Your video is great, and you're a natural teacher. Just need some additional info added, please.

The one thing you didn't do is put on your kill chord, please please put on your kill chord before you start going in gear. If for whatever reason you fall out that boat and you don't have on your kill chord your engine will not shut off and it could run over you or hit another boat. Great video, be safe.
@machew20093 жыл бұрын
Like the boat however I do not recommend power loading a boat like you did in this video here in MN the ramps can't take power loading it pushing the dirt/sand and create a hole at the ramps and then the dnr has to come in and repair them plus if your pro or lower unit hits bottom at a ramp power loading it is a good way to damage the lower unit or prop its best to winch the boat on the trailer less destructive to the ramps and also safer for the boat. By the way that is a sweet boat
