I have had no truck with the Anglican Church for decades due to the activism of the leadership. Im from Leeds but the Bishop of Leeds called brexiteers thick racists and much worse. Welby is a complete activist and last week conflating Nazis to climate change is just one idiocy of his. But closing churches through the pandemic has damaged the CofE. @a basketboy "The Bible was compiled by Pope St. Damasus I at the Council of Rome in A.D. 380 and the Council of Carthage in A.D. 392." You're point blank wrong. if Henry was in sound mind, he would have executed the reformers under Edward VI for changing because doctrines ( Transubiation, veneration of Icons). The Anglicans held no authority, to even change anything. "The authority of the Pope: The Pope has the sole authority “to convoke an ecumenical council, preside over it personally or through others, transfer, suspend or dissolve a council, and to approve its decrees”. Half of Low Anglican's disagree with Nicea II over Icons, which is a big heresy. " which declared that images of Jesus misrepresented him and that images of Mary and the saints were idols.[24] The Second Council of Nicaea restored the veneration of icons and ended the first iconoclasm."

I hope the Catholic Church quickly makes this man a bishop. I'm not an Anglican or a Christian, but I was impressed by him. The world needs to hear people like this. Even the Catholic Church has gone somewhat Woke, and needs to be informed by more people like him. What the world desperately needs is more voices of reason. And the Church needs to stand up for the Gospel. I'm sure it's possible to be fairly Woke on the one hand, and stand up for traditional values on the other. It's about standing for balance, reason and free speech, and against cancel culture. Standing up for the rights of women and minorities should not come at the expense of the rights of everyone else. Live and let live shouldn't come at the expense of championing traditional values. Standing up for the environment shouldn't mean subscribing to climate alarmism. Standing up for trans rights shouldn't mean supporting practices that can harm children. Standing up for freedom of religion and racial equality should not mean supporting the literal demonization of white people and refusing to take a stand against Isalmic extremism and fundamentalism, including the likes of grooming gangs. The Church should be able to take the lead in reasoned debate about all the issues of the day and bring balance. It should be a force to bring society together and resist the attempted neo-Marxist divisiveness and disruption in our society, and destruction of our civilization.

Michael Nazir-Ali has not yet been ordained as a Catholic priest, although it is reported that this is likely to happen fairly soon. @a basketboy , the Holy Apostolic Catholic Church is the true Church. The early Church fathers were Catholics. Holy Bible was preserved by the Catholic Church with 73 Books for 1500 years. Till heretic martin luther appeared to the scene and removed 6 books. There are 266 popes from Saint Peter to Pope Francis with uninterrupted chains.

@a basketboy , your very protestantism was stared by the heretic martin luther. The very fact that you expunged 6 precious books from Holy Bible( from 73 to 66) indicate that you are a follower of martin luther , despite the denial. The Holy Bible translated by Saint Jerome under the commission of Pope Damasus in the 4th century contained all the 73 books in Scriptures. By the way, Holy Bible is a Catholic book. And there’s no salvation outside the Holy Apostolic Catholic Church. Showing respect and honor to the Blessed Mother Virgin Mary is commendable as evidenced in Book of Saint Luke chaper 1 verse 26 onwards. The Holy Spirit greeted our Blessed Mother in such a respectful way, and She herself said: “ All generations will call be blessed”. It’s recorded. The Catholic is right all the time. Amazing. Lord Jesus Christ bless you with discernment. Amen

@a basketboy , Gary Michuta, “Case for the Deuterocanon”, had discussed this extensively on the Deuterocanons that you protestants misleadingly labeled as apocrypha. The Jewish Canon was established exclusively to deny the Messiah and many of the Deuterocanons contained the prophecies of the advent of Messiah. You are missing a lot of pearls with the absence of Deuterocanons. Blessed Mother Virgin Mary is Queen of Heaven, as in Book Of Relevation( 12:1-2), and her intercession is sought after. All the Apostolic Churches such as Catholic, Orthodox, Coptic Church, Ethiopian Church, Armenian Church, Assyrian Church of the East honored Blessed Mother Virgin Mary and revere her. You are confused between adoration that is exclusively for Lord God the Father , Son and Holy Spirit which is Latria, and the reverence showed to Blessed Mother and Saints, which is Dulia. The unanimous consensus for 1500 years of Christianity was to exhibit deep love and respect to the Mother of God, the Holy Theotokos, till heretics the like of martin luther, john calvin, zwinglii, etc appears into the scene. It was the Catholic Church who relentlessly preserved the Holy Bible in its entirety by enduring the persecutions and oppressions in the first 300 years of history of Christianity. Sorry, protestantism never will ever get any credit on that. The Holy Apostolic Catholic Church, still standing then, and still standing today. The defender of Catholic Christians were always Catholic Church , history is in the open. Go and study objectively, instead of listening to your anti - Catholic inflammatory protestant pastors whose smattering knowledge can’t even be compared with Catholic Church fathers such as Saint Augustine, Justin Martyr, Saint Jerome, Ireaneus, Saint Athanasius, etc.

@a basketboy , this is not the platform to discuss something so extensive, and i am not here to spoon feed. Earlier in the discussion, i had pointed out a scholar , Gary Michuta, u can purchase and read his books which answers your question. It’s your protestantism that provide free ammo to those who criticize Christians by removing 6 books despite for at least 1500 years, the 73 Books were the standards unanimous consensus. The Catholic Church is the true Church, comprising traditions from Apostles and compiled the Holy Bible for you and me, either you like it or not.

The C of E...is not the church.... The church is 'the body of Christ'..and there is only one....One, born again, spiritual community that transcends all religious frameworks. Institutional frameworks tend to constrain the people of God. It was institutional religion that put Jesus on the cross. Sadly the C of E has lost its way...and like many institutions that are not well run it will become increasingly dysfunctional and irrelevant.

What interests me are the values we want to live by, not the supposed legitimacy of the interpretation of stories told a few thousand years ago. Moderate Believers of Christianity, Islam and Judaism can obviously get on well, living by the moderate aspects within their religions, rooted in the same basic stories. However, given the contradictions and dubious values expressed in compilations such as the Bible, Torah and Quran, I believe we could do better in developing codes of conduct built on love, respect and fairness. This would help avoid the possibility of Believers using their Belief to justify doing bad things. Non-Believers doing nasty things would automatically be covered by such a code of conduct.

With all due respect to the former Anglican Bishop, isn't the problem with his former church, and his present church, and in fact all churches this: that the word 'God' never seems to pass their lips? Not once did Michael mention God. Churchmen are too concerned with internal church politics and intra-church politics. They're too busy trying to either save their dying churches, or too busy trying to bring these dying churches together into some vague and wistful ecumenical unity. But the whole point of the Christian faith is God. No one cares about God, that's the problem.
